Every archer and bowhunter should know how to tie a D-Loop. Because D-Loops are a wearable item, you never know when you will need to replace yours or someone else's. Often times, the need to replace one comes at the most inopportune time such as on a hunt or on a target range. In this session of School of Nock, John Dudley of Nock On Archery will teach you how to properly tie D-Loops and provide you with a practice method so that it becomes second nature allowing you to be at the ready whenever you need to replace yours or someone else's.

Thank you so much. Your videos have allowed me to learn to setup and tune my bow on my own, can’t stress enough what a treasure you are to the bow community. I’m setting up my 6 years olds Bear Pathfinder now and cannot wait to get him shooting today. Saw this newer video and thought I’d give it a look. Thanks Dud!

learned watching you every time I have to take my bow to shop to get strings put on I get it back I've got to tie on my nock sets and D-loop because they tied it wrong

This was a super easy video to learn how to do it. Sometimes people precut and burn the d loop first, but trimming and burning after tying was so much easier.

Your early D-loop video was how I found you. Used it ever since.

Great video, so many archers cannot tie their own loops, this will help greatly.

how would u tie a d loop for a left handed shooter which i am? would it be tied the same as right handed shooter? i think that’s part of why my arrows might be drifting a lot. thanks for the awesome videos really helpful

It would have the loop on the right side of the string at the top and left side on the bottom

John besides the D-loop, the question arises, how big of a loop? Also, how do you test and adjust a D-loop to make sure your draw length is not affected???? Thanks

@Hunt210 2 года назад
I prefer 1/2"- 5/8" . Your draw length will stay the same but your anchor point will move. Ideally you'll want to keep it as short as you can without it influencing the string. String angle or axle to axle length can also be a factor, so I tend to make the shorter bows a little longer on the dloop.

Each of your D-loops was a different length and without serving knots the D-loop will pinch the nock more and more over time. After marking the nock position on the string with a silver Sharpie I serve set above and below with slight play. I like to cut the D-loop to precisely 4-1/2", flare each end, melt the end and press against a flat metal surface to increase mushroom flare, and repeat on the other end. The mushroom flare is what keeps this knot from pulling out. If you let the end catch fire it will shorten the loop material less controllably and possibly make it too brittle. Cutting and melting after the tie makes D-loop length unpredictable and unnecessarily exposes the bowstring and D-loop knots to heat damage.
