Great idea, Sherry! Glad you found a solution as using gloves makes machine quilting so much more manageable. Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

Good beginner's instruction. Just a note ... some machines have a programmed stitch that can be selected and adjusted to do a wave stitch without man-handling the sandwich from side to side. Check the machine manual for options. It's fun to do some experimenting on sample swatches until the desired wave shape is achieved. When I get one I like, I use a fine sharpie to write my stitch settings right on my sample for future reference. This wavey quilting technique is so forgiving compared to trying to stay exactly in (or 2 threads away from) the ditch! Thanks for the demo.

Thanks for the tip, Holly! There are quite a few pre-programmed stitches that can be used for quilting. Trying it the first time builds confidence to try more. 😊 Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

This is how i generally quilt my quilts because I have an older husqvarna sewing machine and trying to find a proper open toe quilt attachment is like looking for a needle in a haystack! The meandering stitch is quite freeing actually!

Wavy line quilting is wonderful. It looks good; it's forgiving; and allows you to power through. I do lengthen my stitch.
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
So true, Leisa! Wonderful AND gets the job done with a great finished look. Yes, I lengthen my stitches for machine quilting, too. With three layers it can get a bit tight if the stich is too small. I have some quilting to catch up on and will be putting my walking foot to work very soon. Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

Hey Lea, you've made this look so easy. I was wondering how to do a drunken stitch when using a walking foot. Thank you.
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise 2 года назад
Glad it was helpful, Diana! What I've seen of the Drunken Quilting Stitch, it's more evenly spaced across the quilt. My method groups stitches together which makes more of a statement. You can quilt both of these with a regular machine pressure foot. It's just easier with a walking foot. I have more quilts to finish, so I'll demo some different ideas. 😀 Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

Thank you for putting this video up. It found me at the exact perfect time. I just completed assembling the top, batting and backing for a small quilt intended as a gift for our soon-to-be three year old neighbor. I put it aside while I considered how to quilt it. I have never used a walking foot and was a little nervous to use the on one that came with my machine. Your video popped up and in a clear, simple way you demonstrated it's use. I appreciate that. Thank you.

I love your idea of only quilting 4-5 wavy lines along each seam and not in the middle of the block. I love the uneven curves. I usually try to fill the entire quilt with wavy lines and this is freedom from doing that! Much less work and it looks fantastic! Thanks for the tip. 😊

You are so welcome, Janis! Grouping the quilting lines actually creates another level of design in your quilt. Plus if you're very energetic, those open areas are perfect for free motion quilting. Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

So do you reduce the pressure foot tension when using walking foot?
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise 5 месяцев назад
Check your machine recommendations in your manual, Cecily, as machines vary. I don't make any adjustments for quilting as there are quite a few layers and everything moves well. If I was using very lightweight fabric, it may be necessary. Thanks so much for watching! Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

Just found your channel! Thanks for doing the demo on a pieced sample rather than whole cloth - it showed us so much more that way. I like the look of the close together wavy lines with spaces between the clusters, and this will help me get some quilt tops completed without taking on the ruler work I usually attempt. I can save that for a few special quilts and use this for more casual ones.❤
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise 10 месяцев назад
Great plan, Cassandra! The idea is to get those quilts finished and sometimes an easier method can get it done. As you get more experience, more intricate quilting will become easier. So it's a double win! Glad you enjoy this quilting idea. Thanks so much for watching! Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

You are fortunate to have so much space to get your hand between the machine and the face plate. My Janome has very little space and I can't get my hand in there to reach the shank screw. I can't install a walking foot.
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise 2 года назад
Wow, that's incredibly narrow! You can still achieve this quilting pattern with a regular foot. Just be sure your quilt is well basted, perhaps with spray adhesive to keep everything in place. Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

I find that the walking foot presses too hard on my fabric and causes puckers when lines meet. I tried two different ones and it's always the problem. My regular foot does the job and it's not harder.

How do you put on a walking foot???? Lol I can't figure it out!
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise 2 года назад
The first time I tried was quite a challenge. I didn't understand the 'extra' arm that moved as it just got in the way. Then I figured it goes either above or around the thumb screw that holds in the needle. It was amazing how well it worked once I had it on correctly! LOL Check out a RU-vid video for your machine and there should be a tutorial. There are a few variations out there depending on which machine you have. Hang in there, you can do it!
