First Eastwood video I've ever watched that doesn't have annoying thrash metal going constantly in the background. Nice video.

Hey now... we just like metal around here. But we hear you, we have been trying less music or less aggressive tunes 🎵

Over the past several years, I have watched every wheeling video i can find, bought videos from the "masters", attended workshops to learn more about wheeling. Your video offered more information, and new information than all those that have gone before. Altogether, an excellent presentation. The explanations of why the metal reacts the way it does was brilliant, and not presented previously to my knowledge. Well done, Mike! And thanks to Eastwood for taking the considerable time to film, edit and present this video.

I'm so very impressed with this video! I've never used any sheet metal fabrication equipment, but have been a welder/ fabricator for over 40 years. I have always dreamt of building hot rods and Motorcycles when I retire,because life and family has been my priority. retirement is only a hop skip and a jump away and I'm going to do it! your videos are getting my psyched and giving me a great pre-schooling. thank you thank you.

Mike, guys like you really grind my gears. Obviously a brilliant craftsman (no makeup department can produce hands that look like those, they only come from lots of close contact with what is known as "work"). That's not good enough for you though. Your on camera presence and delivery are just as flawless as your sheet metal. Watching you do this makes even a "ham hands" like me think "I could do that". You really put the lie to the idea that "young guys aren't interested in craftsmanship that takes decades to master". Watching you work is informative, interesting and entertaining. Thanks so much for such good work. All that said, I don't want to forget the people helping. First rate videos like this take an entire team, their work shows here too. Really good craft videos are really hard to find, these are some of the best.

Young man, YOU are a TEACHER...the facts are shared clear and without confusion. Your knowledge and understanding is obvious and your presentation is professional and easy to comprehend. I learned more in a short time from you than any other video online. I am motivated to buy the equipment and try metal shaping. I also know, the good ones make the difficult look easy, but I want to give it a shot. GREAT JOB SIR!

at 19:00 mins into the video , he shows how to set a body line. I tried this on a door skin I made, it created the body line OK, but it also flattened the panel along the body line. I lost shape and also caused some distortion in the surrounding area. I tried fixing it but , when I wamts getting anywhere, I got frustrate , lost my temper and made it worse. I will have to start with a new panel all over again , but I worried I won't get that body line to work . Does anyone have any ideas ?

When you pull the workpiece out, and the wheels clunk together, do you run the risk of denting or dimpling them, causing them not to work as well??? I've never used one.

Why is the upper wheel loose. It falls down when the panel is removed from the wheel and the panel has to pick it up when you start with the panel inserting.

Good video, I've never seen one used before, why does the top wheel arm(?) flex? I mean there are 9 bolts holding it to the upright and that short lever arm shouldn't flex that much.
@eastwoodco
@eastwoodco 6 лет назад
To lessen the flexing, you can weld the brackets to the arms after it's bolted together.

Cual es el espesor de las láminas metálicas que se trabajan???
@phillipshotrods
@phillipshotrods 7 лет назад
I do not speak any language but English... But according to Google you asked what the metal thickness is. This is .063" Aluminum. Also common would be 18g or 19g Steel. The rest of the world calls is 1.6mm aluminum or 1.1mm steel
@jedeastwick6844
@jedeastwick6844 4 года назад
ok for diy projects but that box section steel tube frame really flexes badly , thats why the old english wheel frames where cast iron
@idomake4429
@idomake4429 7 лет назад
I do have a question, what does one do about all the work hardening and resultant brittleness that can develop in these panels?
@phillipshotrods
@phillipshotrods 7 лет назад
You have to anneal the panel from time to time if it gets too hard to shape. This is required mostly when working with aluminum.
@wraithvendeta
@wraithvendeta 6 лет назад
Idomake mild steel doesnt work harden enough to worry about during the process. Working with brass or aluminum annealing should be done

@836dmar
@836dmar 6 лет назад
jishimoari I think that was the rubber band rubbing.
@wraithvendeta
@wraithvendeta 6 лет назад
jishimoari its from the pressure on the work piece. The work piece working against both wheels is causing the squeak
@wraithvendeta
@wraithvendeta 6 лет назад
jishimoari thats why the squeak goes away when he started using the rubber band.

Not to take anything away from you but the movement in that so called home built piece of shit of a English wheel has way to much movement in it.
@eastwoodco
@eastwoodco 5 лет назад
To make it completely rigid, you can weld the spots where the arms connect to each other. Most English Wheels must be shipped via freight, which is very expensive. This was designed to be a larger wheel, but ship at a low cost. That means it bolts together. Simply welding the connection points will make it very sturdy and improve the performance.

i cower to your superior metal shaping skills =) also ~ you nibble your fingernails ? P.s. did you just bare metal the car coz if i scotch bright a panel it'll have a sheen of rust in 24 hours
