So, i'm just going to say this is the video that literally taught me how to edit videos. And then I landed a high paying job, thank you so much for putting this out there. You need to see things I'm doing. I edited a documentary and I got a raise.
I’ve opened and closed it SEVERAL times. The moment that I get the courage to try it again, I open it, get immediately overwhelmed and close it. Your video put things in layman’s terms and you didn’t go so fast that if I blinked, I missed it. Thanks!!!!
Haha I've been there too, Yolanda!! I'm happy this video is helpful for you 😊 welcome to the wonderful world of editing! Enjoy! If you have any questions, please feel free to drop a comment :)
Lila, you're the real MVP. I spent so many months overwhelmed by other tutorials and paying for adobe without being able to use it. Now I've watched this twice and am almost done with my edit. I look forward to filming now and footage not sitting on my hard drive or trying to explain to editors what I want and paying them $$$. Thank you! I would totally pay for a course you create in the future.
Thanks so much, that means a lot! I would love to make a course in the future, it's definitely on my list. Could you shoot me an email if you're open to be contacted once I start that process? Maybe to ask for feedback or suggestions? I could totally shoot you an email but I don't want to compromise your privacy :) hello@lila.media
Thank you!! This was by far and away the best tutorial on Premiere Pro without all the unneeded fluff! So many of your tips and pointers are missing from other RU-vid tutorials and I’ve watched most of them as I transition from Vegas to Premiere…thanks again! 😁👍🏻
That's great to hear!! Btw if you want you can customise your keyboard settings - there's an option to change the shortcuts to FCPX so you don't need to go through the process of learning all the new shortcuts. I believe it's under edit > Keyboard customisation :)
Aw thank you so much Lila! I had to use Premiere Pro for my Digital class to make a video, and this helped so much! It's nice that you assume that we don't know ANYTHING (which I don't) Some other video's skip some important steps.
Looooved it! I am a total newbie to Premier Pro and video editing - just wanted to learn it myself instead of paying someone. This video gave me a great start!
It is this easy! I actually made an updated version of this video with a few more tips and tricks if you're interested! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0lizJ0Iz45k.html
I just cannot see WHY when people are offering free RU-vid tutorials talk at a usain bolt speed, showing their super confidence of their ability and jargon terms, Usully I switch off. 4 mins in, I’m still listening 👂 with interest. It makes such a relief to not show off but GIVE A SPOKEN dialogue at a pace people can follow along. Bravo lady, I know some of your earlier videos were san but seed BUT...not this one.... it was teachable so thanks. Having taught in the corporate world for 20 years, this pace is best. Well done. I’ve learnt from this video by the calmness and clear direction. Well done again 👍🏼....
Haha I don't understand that either! Teaching is a skill (as you will know since you've been teaching for 20 years) and a lot of people want to teach but don't know how to effectively share their knowledge. I had a lot of professors who were really good at their profession but just terrible teachers haha. I'm so thankful for all the compliments, thanks Anne Marie! 😊
Great video Lila! I have a college assignment due soon for an Advanced TV Broadcasting module. I'll be sharing this video with my class. Everything explained perfectly, makes the project much less daunting and more exciting! Thanks Lila.
Lila I am 59 years old I don’t know photography etc, I made 3 video documentaries with final edit. During this corona crap our library decided they need to make videos, now they have me in a class with twenty somethings virtually and before the course is even ending they want me using Premeire to put out videos! I am in way over my head, yes feeling like the imposter syndrome you spoke about, wait till they find out I can’t do this.. I watch your videos, trying to learn even though the program is at work , you have me lost most of the time BUT I at least am hearing what is possible and will know where to refer to. They want stuff but say I don’t know what I want but when they think of it they want it now, it’s stressful, so I just want to say thank you for making these at least I feel that I have somewhere to turn first. Your amazing, I’m in 🇺🇸 so thank you for helping an old man
One year ago, I was really a beginner in editing at first and I literally didn't even know how to cut and edit clips, so I thought of giving Movavi video editor a try. It was easy to learn as a beginner and I could master editing in that in a few months. Slowly as time passed I thought why not experiment on Adobe Premiere Pro as I have started editing well and so I thought of giving it a try. Then suddenly I remembered when Nick Nimmin and Dee Nimmin once mentioned about you in one of their live streams long back that you teach Premiere Pro very well, so I thought of checking your video for learning Premiere Pro from the scratch and not gonna lie, it is really the best ones I have found out here . It is a very easy to follow and well designed tutorial. Thanks a lot Lila.
Are you telling me I spent 1 hour looking for a editing tutorial video and this was at the top the whole time? God my life is wasted.. Thanks Lila for this, helped me a lot x
This helped me so much. I've had an edit I had meant to do a LONG time ago, and it was stressing me out. This video got me back up to speed really fast and gave me a quick start. You made me a life a lot easier.
I was soooo pessimistic when I clicked the video. I was thinking “ why is she so damn happy and smiling so hard” adobe premiere is frustrating for me. But after watching this I’m a little more hopeful. 🥰
hahaha that's great Medusa! I hope we can build some trust that when I say it's easy, it's actually easy :) if you have any questions, I'm happy to help
I'm only halfway through the video and I'm writing this comment, this is the best beginning tutorial I've seen yet. She talks at a good pace, communicates things clear, her video isn't tiny, and she shows both the regular way and shortcut for several things.
Aw thanks Kyndra, I really appreciate it. I'm thinking of doing an updated video soon, so if you have some suggestions or are missing things in this video, I will take some notes 😁 thanks so much for your in depth comment, again, I really appreciate that.
Yeah I was using Resolve too. I quite like their UI actually, it was a little harder using Premiere, but I'm on a university course now and need to use it...
Do you mean you need to use premiere at uni? If there's anything I can help you with let me know!! I'll try to make your premiere experience better haha
I edit my videos with DaVinci resolve 16 but my friend said that Premiere Pro is better so go here to download premiere pro for free: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EMic2n7qMcE.html
I just wanted to say another thank you. I’ve been in TV development for years and I can say you’re a super charismatic person. Please keep doing what you’re doing. Love your videos!
Hahaha that’s a cool idea! The opposite of teaching premiere pro. Do you have any videos out yet? I just checked your channel and i just saw videos that were uploaded 8 years ago (OG youtuber alert!)
Thank you so much! I've been using Sony Vegas 15 but honestly, it's very annoying and it crashes a lot so I tried using Premiere but was so confused when I was editing and this was the first thing to pop up! You're a lifesaver, I just subscribed! Keep it up!
Aw thanks so much! fun fact: I started editing in sony vegas too! Well, actually first windows movie maker but then I quickly moved to sony vegas. That's over 10 years ago now, I have no idea what sony vegas looks like now. Good job switching to premiere though, you won't regret it! It's a learning curve for sure but you'll get the hang of it very soon! And if you have any questions, feel free to drop a comment and I'll do my best to help you :)
I didnt felt overwhelmed by the features of premiere at first glance. I was excited to learn it so much I cancelled the 6 hours of work I made on another editor.
😁 I was so much used to photoshop, so I thought something was missing in the blank screen, I waited for 3 min for panels to open,.... & I had to raise my hand. 😁✋
Stan, We just got our camera 📸 two weeks ago and we about to get this software. So we are going need your video for next couple weeks to help learn about this stuff. Wish us luck
That's awesome guys, woopwoop!! If you haven't gotten Adobe yet and if you want, I have an affiliate link won't cost you anything extra of course 😁 I just get a little commission! Don't feel obligated though!
Good work Lila. I felt exactly the same once I opened adobe premiere. It was so overwhelming and I closed it down and edited elsewhere and I’ve just started my own channel. I’ll be sure to try adobe premiere again after watching your vid x
I was very much enjoying your video when I noticed your a small channel. I did so not expect that. I love the way you edited your vid,and the fast way you explain. I really look forward to watching your future videos on video editing! I just started my multimedia career, and I would really love to learn from you. Good Vides everyone! Keep up the good work!
My hand is raised. I had no idea what I was doing 😂😂😂. I still don't think I know what I'm doing. I have not seen your whole video completely yet but I already know it's going to be amazingly helpful!!
Amazing video!! I learned about adjust layers and that is going to save me a lot of time 😂. For my last video I colour graded each video seperatly 🤦🏼♂️😅. Thank you for sharing this :)
HAHAHA, that's SO good! I love how you raised your hand! 😂 and ouch, yes, colour grading every clip will take you forever, so I'm happy you picked up something from this video! Adjustment layers are one of my favourite features, by far!
I'm uploading a video today where I share some tips that help me keep an organised timeline! In order to keep your project manager organised, you just have to create bins per category
After the "create new project" i got hella confused for the rest of the video, but i just kept re-watching. Now i have an amazing video thanks to you!!
UNTURNED helper yeah I agree... but I can’t nail the accent. I think it’s maybe Eastern Europe but Lila has lived in the States for ages. I dunno 🤷🏻♂️🤣
I didn’t look at all of the features in premiere pro and then just close out and say no because my brother uses it to make his shout films and he showed me a lot of the tools and effects. So when I opened it up, I imported the video, watched this, and then uploaded a video that same day on my channel. Edit: now when I preview my videos it is very, very, very, SUPER laggy at some parts... plz help
Aw thanks Joe! 🙈 I expected it to be 20 minutes, so when I found out it was only 13-14 I was afraid I missed something important, but it seems like I'm fine hahaha
I’ve been using for over 10 years Sony Vegas and now I want to get into more “professional editing” and I got premiere pro. As soon as I opened it, I said the same thing as you! Luckily you’ve made this easy tutorial. Thank you a lot for it!
Hey Jordan, so glad to hear this video helped you! I'm planning on making a part 2 video very soon, so if you have any suggestions or questions, please let me know so I can address them in that video 😊 have fun with premiere!!
I really appreciate this. I've watched other tutorials but this one was most understandable at least for me. When I first started using this program I felt overwhelmed and quite frankly stupid. But now hopefully I won't feel as dumb. Thank you so much.
Yes you can! I found this on Adobe's website: To copy a transiton to multiple clips: Select multiple edit points in the sequence by dragging a marquee around the edit points, or by using the Shift key with any trim tool.
Hey i have a problem, when i try to put my videos, i cant put my intro, i mean i can but its complicated, i put my video/videos, they are fine, nothing is bad, but when i try to put my intro, i put it in the upper panel, edit the part that I want, and then when I move it on the timeline, it's so thin and I cant edit it or cut it is literally paper thin, even thinner, please help me because I really need to learn how to edit with this and that is the only things stopping me from being a better editor, people still say I'm a good editor, but I dont feel like it so I really wanna be able to edit my videos on premiere, please help. Also keep up the good work :D
I don't know how many of these tutorials I've watched, but this is the only one that actually explained and showed how and what to do. I've watched a video and be all "ooh it's that easy?" yet when I start the program I'm all confused and have no idea what I'm doing. But this actually shows where everything is and how to use it. I just wish Premier pro wasn't so expensive. 😰
It’s definitely on the pricey side because it’s subscription based. If you’re a student you can get the entire creative cloud for 20 bucks. Keep an eye out on their -40% sales (they run them frequently)
Hey laura!! I don't think it's compatible with all the file formats, but it works with most. What are you trying to import so we can try to figure this out together :)
Haha, what I meant was giving it a try is definitely worth the money because that's free. The first 30 days are free, after that you'll have to pay if you want to continue the subscription. You can cancel at any time so it's possible to try it out for free only.
@@tommy2365 hey tommy, it's not an ad, if I was sponsored by them I would've disclosed that :) the link in my description is an affiliate link, meaning I get a little commission if you sign up with my link, but it won't cost any extra. And like I said, it's free for 30 days so you can just test it out and see if you like it without any commitment.
I just switched from Davinci resolve 16 and was terrified when I opened premier and I didn’t want to have to watch a 4 hour tutorial so this was perfect so I know the basics! Thanks!
Wow really amazing video! When I first opened up Premiere Pro I felt so overwhelmed but after watching your explanation I feel like I got a handle on this :) Totally gonna subscribe!
If anyone is having the problem when they do the export and can't find the youtube part. Make sure the format is at H.264 then it'll pop up 👍 thank you so much for this you literally saved me so much frustration lol 🥰
Wow! I have seen many Premiere Pro videos but you made it look like super easy to use. You covered everything in less than 15 minutes! I like that there was no blah blah or unnecessary info in it. Thanks to you my initial fear of using Pr is now gone.
Lila if you're not a STEM teacher you SHOULD be a STEM teacher. Working for a school district in the STEM field I've seen a lot of good teachers, and what you're doing here is top notch.
Great video, I purchased Premier two months ago and every time I attempt to teach myself I close it after 1/2hr out of frustration. Your video was the best to get me started. Thank you! I'm great with Photoshop and Lightroom but Premier seemed to be the boogie man for me....not no more
I'm happy to hear that, David! Learning a new program, especially one with so many features, is challenging. I'm happy to hear you're feeling more comfortable now!
Thank you Lila. I was a linear editor for 30 years, for my wedding business and the government. I totally understood everything you explained. I'll be purchasing Premiere Pro in the near future. Keep up the excellent tutorials.
That's awesome Donald! If I may be so blunt... I would highly appreciate it if you could use the link in my description. That'll give me a little commission when you get an Adobe creative cloud subscription without extra charge and will help me make more videos like these!😊
@@lilafromyoutube I'm so old school Lila! I don't know where your link is. I'm looking to seriously get into vlogging, whatever it's called! Let me ask you this: Tell me Premiere Pro, in your opinion is the way to go. I have to get started soon now that lockdown is easing up. And I'd like your help. I'll help you out too. I did send an email to you in my last message. Thank you Lila. Cold in Canada!
Haha of course my editing program of choice is premiere pro. It offers everything you could possibly need. Here's the link btw geni.us/getcreativecloud There are other editing programmes out there, also simpler ones that may do the job for you. At the end of the day it's all about what you need as an editor and your personal choice. If you have the time and you're really committed to the idea id making videos and wanting to grow, I don't think learning premiere pro would be a bad idea at all!
@@lilafromyoutube I am going to purchase premiere pro for my Windows 8 laptop. Thank you for your assistance. I will subscribe to you once I get started.
This has been so helpful, I’m having to make a video on a new process for a company in a new role... this is going to be delivered company wide and viewed by the CEO and guess what ...I’ve never done this before... thank you so much for this support it’s really helped me get a basic ready for tomorrow when I get cracking!!
HI LILA: Nice job your tips will help me to get started. I have a new D850. I do product photography with the camera. It does a great job with the photos and it's fantastic with the video I'm recording. I've used Photoshop for years. Now I need to learn video editing to give our customers another way to learn about our products.
I'm sorry to get back to your comments this late! I think it's great that you're expanding your business and portfolio with videos! I hope my videos will help and if you have any questions, feel free to drop them under a video and I'll get back to you (hopefully faster than I did this time, haha!)
I’m literally embarrassed but grateful by how much I learned in this video. I’ve been using premiere for six months or more but really never took the time to learn a lot of the shortcuts. I can’t imagine how much time I’ll save once I take some notes on this. Great video and yes I’d love a video on color correction in premiere 2019 thanks.
I'm so happy to hear this!! Yeah those shortcuts may not seem like total time savers, but adding them all together, it's going to save you a lot of time. Also, I'm not sure if you've seen this, but I did make a video with my favourite keyboard shortcuts. Maybe this will help you some more! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yd-sc0jKAGs.html
@@lilafromyoutube I'll check out that video for sure. So when I work with my footage I already create folders for Images, First Person Footage, BRoll, etc. Assuming if I do that there's no need to create bins, it serves the same purpose right? I just generally import each of these folders and work with the footage that way. Again thanks! Your video today inspired me to spend some time learning Premiere rather than just stumbling around and putting out videos the way I know how.
@@TuckerPearce yes, if you import those folders you're good to go! If you want to step it up even more, you can colour code your footage. I do that when I work on bigger projects, because it's so easy to find certain segments if you assign a colour to it! I also made a video about this (sounds like I'm really selling myself 🤦🏻♀️ I don't mean to) but it's basically a matter of selecting all the clips (e.g. talking shots or b-roll of a particular day or location), right click-> label -> and choose a colour. Super handy!
just went from Sony Vegas 17 to Premiere Pro 2020. Man, i wished i did it earlier. The playback is so smooth in Adobe Premiere. It dont even prerender.
I got premiere pro for free, and had no idea what the heck it was, it took me about 3 hours to download. I had no clue whatsoever on how to use it. So thanks!
super helpful tutorial I was so overwhelmed with premier pro its my first time trying to use it and I was making everything x10 harder for myself. Thank you so much!
@@Elizabeth-bs1inif you select the clip and press and hold control/command (mac) you should be able to insert the clip without overwriting other clips :)
