I find your videos incredibly useful. So straightforward, clear, even on obscure points. No muss no fuss. You are helping HEMA a lot! Especially the newbies like me. Now, a more mundane question: beautiful swords. What is the manufacturer?

I prefer this one over the zucken, i'm more of a swinger than a thruster.

Both are highly dependend on the type of bind you find yourself in. Abnehmen only works if your opponent uses a lot of force with his deflecting or Versetzen. The whole point of this technique is to use the energy of your oponent to let your blade slide upwards very quick to release the bind. If there is not enough force used by your opponent you wont be quick enough and he will just block your following strinke. So you can't really substitute these two techniques with each other as both are a reaction to different scenarios.

I've watched a few of these now, and since I can't find an opponent to practice against, I was thinking about other things I could practice. Is it possible you could explain the footwork/positioning required for some of these moves? I try some of them out, but I find myself stumbling like a dork. Also, I've been admiring your swords. Do you get all of them from somewhere specific?

Great videos! One thing though, right before Gregor disengages to go in for the final thrust, he seems to leave himself wide open for an attack from his opponent. Why wouldn't his opponent take this opportunity? Thanks
@Dreynschlag
@Dreynschlag 6 лет назад
The prerequisite for Abnehmen is that the opponent pushes to the side. Only in that time frame, as long as your opponent applies pressure to the side, it’s safe to do the Abnehmen. While Gregor performs the technique, he takes a step to his left and immediately brings his sword back down between himself and his opponent while hitting and thus closes the line of attack to protect himself. After that he takes another step to increase distance, still with his sword between himself and his opponent, and in this case ending in a guard called right “Pflug” (plow), again ready to attack. We call this a “proper retreat” because he moves out of Gedi’s range of attack while staying protected. So to finally answer your question: If Gedi attacks after he got hit, Gregor is already in a strong defensive position with his sword between himself and Gedi. So all he needs to do is to raise his hands if required.

The repositioning of Gregor 's hands is a long delay, seems risky. Gidi can just slide down the line and advance and strike Gregor with a down slice. Unless you are slowing the grip down to illustrate a point, but still I feel a half second delay there. Excellent demo

I would say that you guys went too "deep" on the sword for abnehmen to work in the example technique. With the blade all the way down at the opponent's strong, it's a VERY long way up. Comparatively, a zucken would be faster and more efficient. It would require pretty immense pressure from the opponent's sword to work imho. Maybe you were exaggerating it for clarity.

Kann man am ende auch eine 360 Grad drehung vollstrecken ? Als wie das Schwert anzuheben, es um die Waffe des Feindes herum vorbei zu schleifen und dann erst zuzuschlagen ?
@Dreynschlag
@Dreynschlag 8 лет назад

What’s the difference between this technique and zucken
@syaffizafrishahrin9452
@syaffizafrishahrin9452 5 лет назад
What i’m trying to say what is the situation to apply this technique, because when i look at zuchken video you will apply it when your opponent displace your blade and your opponent control more of your left bind. I cannot see the difference of the situation to apply this technique.....
@Dreynschlag
@Dreynschlag 5 лет назад
@@syaffizafrishahrin9452 Hi! The prerequisites are different. Both require your opponent to displace your attack. However, to do the "Zucken", it's necessary that you are in a binding and only a short piece of your blade protrudes over the blade binding, so you can pull it back and immediately bring it forward again in a very small motion (that's why it's called "zucken", which means to twitch). The "Abnehmen" on the other hand needs your opponent to displace your attack firmly to the side. You can only perform the "Abnehmen" if you can feel your opponent pressing sidewards. And as those three belong together: The "Durchwechseln" can only be applied if your opponents pressure on your blade goes downwards or if he is aiming for your sword instead of your body.

most techniques in our videos are counters (against a thrust or a stroke). countering the counter (and so on) is sometimes possible but advanced material and there is still so much basic stuff we need to show...

instead of hitting their head with the blade, could you just punch them with your free other hand? would it be quicker?
@Dreynschlag
@Dreynschlag 6 лет назад
Good thinking, however he problem is that if you wanted to punch the guy, you would have to close the distance. This would be another technique. But even then it is a good idea to use your pommel or get even closer to apply wrestling throws or locks. A simple punch to the face might not finish the fight, and the other guy still has his hands on a deadly weapon. As an example for the principle of closing the distance, check out our video about the "pommel strike". ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--l_5Yt9LaRU.html

Hi this is me again inquring in regards to lack of proper vegetable castings. You see despite their condition I would argue that there aren't that many casting opportunities for a starting vegetable within movie star career. I'd urge you to reconsider your lack of mobility opportunities for vegetables, as your collegues within gun related videos optly include water mellons and potatoes as reoccuring cast memebers. Sincerely, the Vegetable Group NGO.
