Bent legs are definitely good & oh so essential for jazz styles…but are constantly bent legs good? Constantly (or too much) bent legs are exactly the same as constantly (or too much) straightened up legs. They are both extremes so have similar effects, ehehe :) Both are only contributing to restricting your flow and freedom of movement.
The better word I’d choose for the occasion is - available legs. Available knees. Soft and moisturised knees (and all other joints).
👀
Knees give us an international passport to travel to any state, picture and zone of movement. So we do want to explore all the range of the knees, all their potential. Invite them to participate in colouring the movement.
It’s never this or that in dance. It’s always a pallet of shades and options.
🪂
When we do any movement, there will be a moment where we bent knees and where we straighten, and then of course, we want to give complete autonomous freedom to each knee separately.
Use your knees in dance as you do in walking. If we agree that in swing dances the position is inclined and limbs are bent, let’s not take it too literate, ehehe :)
By all means it’s just uncomfortable to be with constantly bent knees, don’t you agree? And as it's uncomfortable, it looks quacky-ducky and awkward.
Colour your dance, your moves by allowing your knees to bring the shapes and qualities!
