In this video, Prof. John Ahr of the Online Jewelry Academy shows viewers how to design and construct a kinetic pendant. This project can be designed to suit any skill level at the jewelers bench. And, the design can be tweaked to hide a secret or tell a story.
The project requires 22 gauge sheet metal, a soldering set-up, jewelers saw, files, a small piece of tubing, a bezel cup and cabochon stone, and polishing or tumbling equipment. If you haven't made a tube rivet before, be sure to watch the OJA's video on tube rivets.

The sample piece does have a watch-like quality to it. It might look interesting to take a needle file and create the appearance of gears. I think we just designed your next piece. Thanks for your support! : )

OnlineJewelryAcademy actually you gave me the missing link I was trying to work out how to make a wire Fidget Spinner😘
@OnlineJewelryAcademy
@OnlineJewelryAcademy 6 лет назад
Fidget spinners use a barring to make the elements spin smoothly for a long time. This piece will move freely if the rivet isn't too tight. But, it won't spin as long as a fidget spinner.
@mouthofthesouth4267
@mouthofthesouth4267 6 лет назад
OnlineJewelryAcademy thank you😘 it was for more of a novelty so it doesn't have to spin very long

We, as a nation, can be a wee bit over-protective with the English language even though most of our language originates from the Greek and the Latin, and we often add unnecessary letters to our words. Also our pronunciation of words which are spelt similarly causes an awful lot of confusion. For example: Slough and Brough are pronounced Sloow, to rhyme with ow and Brough rhymes with ruff. You'll hear people say things like: it's our language and it shouldn't be changed, when in reality language changes constantly and often we don't even notice! Anyway, I'm from Yorkshire and even uk residents have problems working out what we Yorkshire folk are on about lol.

can you share what type of drill bits you used and the sizes?
@OnlineJewelryAcademy
@OnlineJewelryAcademy 6 лет назад
I started out with one of my very small drill bits and just progressed my way up to the larger sizes. Honestly, you just need to go slowly. Or, you could use a disc cutter for the biggest holes. Have fun making your pendant. Thanks for your support! : )
@nancie7487
@nancie7487 6 лет назад
What did you mean when you said if you use a small drill bit then a much larger drill bit you make a weapon?
@OnlineJewelryAcademy
@OnlineJewelryAcademy 6 лет назад
Good question Nanci. I was wondering if anyone would ask. What I was referring to is when you get a small piece of metal stuck on the end of a drill bit. If you don't cut off the power to the flex shaft or drill, you have a weapon that could seriously injure you. For some of the larger holes you can save time and avoid problems drilling if you use a disc cutter. Have fun making a cool pendant. Thanks for your support! : )

Hola Neva, estoy respondiendo usando Google Translate. :)

That's beautiful. Wouldn't it look nice if the centre piece was silver but, as a beginner, who can afford to do that? Also, you may already know this, over here in the UK "Backside" is a euphemism for " butt" so every time I hear an American person say it it makes me giggle like a 10 year old.
@OnlineJewelryAcademy
@OnlineJewelryAcademy 6 лет назад
Hi Lynette, You're not the first subject of her majesty the queen to comment on my use of the English language. It cracks me up how some of you get so upset when you hear me speak like an American. I encourage you to make several of these pendants and sell them so you can purchase some silver sheet metal to play with. Good luck with your creative pursuits. Thanks for your support! : )

So, what do you call the back side of something?
@OnlineJewelryAcademy
@OnlineJewelryAcademy 6 лет назад
It depends if anyone is listening.
@lynettemckone918
@lynettemckone918 6 лет назад
Geoff Lotton the back! We say: front, back, left, right, top, bottom. There are so many words which Americans say that sound funny- haha to us and I'm sure it works the other way round too. ie: fanny packs we call a " bumbag", even though around 90% of people in UK will wear them at the front, over their tummy so it should really be called a "belly bag" I guess. Also, slightly more relevant, to us "Trump" is a colloquialism for "fart" also a very popular kids tv series is called Trumpton lol. Hope this made you smile ;-)
