In this video, I answer Carmen's question about dart excess! When do you trim off the dart excess on a one-dart pattern? I show you three different locations of a one dart front bodice pattern using the slash & spread method.
I thought it was also important to show how you prepare and fold the darts in different locations around the front bodice sloper. Hope you all enjoy this French Draping lesson!

maco maco yes, center front the pit of your neck to waist is shorter then the center back neck bone to waist. Watch my video called “How to Take Body Measurements of Yourself.”

How would you pick a dart placement? I would generally go with the side dart in order not to "mess" with the fabric pattern center front. When would it be better to have a waist dart or a dart towards the neckline (or any combo)? Is it just a matter of taste or does is affect the drape in any other way? I'm petite with a full bust and I've realized that I need to do a FBA in almost all garments to make them fit. I always pick patterns with darts for woven fabrics, but I have to make adjustments anyhow. Thank you for very interesting videos! I wish I had bothered to learn all this earlier.

Where to place the darts are All part of the designing. Yes, sometimes it has to do with wanting to not disturb the flow of the design so placement of the dart needs to be away from design lines.
