ABOUT PAUL TOBEY
==================================================
Paul Tobey, a multi-award-winning jazz pianist, has led a remarkable career filled with both artistic triumphs and unforeseen challenges.
By the year 2001, Paul had already released eight albums, becoming the sole Canadian jazz artist signed to New York's esteemed Arkadia Jazz label. However, fate dealt him a devastating blow when the Musicians Clinics of Canada diagnosed him with severe tendonitis in both forearms. This was a diagnosis that put an end to his jazz career and delivered a crushing emotional blow. Shortly thereafter, he faced another daunting obstacle: severe Tinnitus.
With a young family in tow, Paul embarked on a journey of reinvention. After a 2 year bout of depression, he regrouped and pivoted. He took some professional training and got certified as a public speaker and business trainer. This is how he provided for his family for the next 25 years.
The pandemic enabled Paul time to return to the piano. At the age of 61, he created this channel and continues to serve jazz musicians worldwide. He is set to release a new album - the 1st since his Juno Nominated Release "Street Culture" back in 2001. We hope this serves as inspiration and a reminder that it's never too late for renewal and second chances. And if you want to get back to your music, it's never too late.

Great lesson!👏 Just one detail: I don’t really hear the Ebmaj7 in bar 16. I might be wrong, but could it be an E-7b5?
@Jazzmentl
@Jazzmentl 7 месяцев назад
Bar 16 is just an ascending F major scale using drop 2 voicings. This of course assumes that you're talking about bar 16 and not confusing it with another bar

No, I think Tomas is right. The notation shows an E natural, but the written chord above the staff (and what's played in the video) is an Ebmaj7 - whereas the original song has an Em7b5 (which makes sense in the context of F major).
