In this lesson, we try our best to correctly play the bass line to Come Together by The Beatles. We're playing like Paul McCartney and trying to use slide technique on the bass to sound just like the record. For added authenticity, try to play this bass line with a pick.

Great tutorial. How about one for the very cool bassline you play on Jenny Lewis’s “Joy’all”?

I typically start the slide at the 5th of the Dm. Could be wrong with that, but it always sounded and felt natural to play it that way. And I do tend start to lift my sliding finger around the tenth fret, so the landing point does vary. But I never noticed that I did that. I think the effect of doing that is that the end of the slide kinds of trails off and then the emphasis lands on the F. I doubt this is all intentional and is probably just a more intuitive way to lend this line a mellow, organic sounding groove.

Great lesson Ryan! I've always wondered why this groove sounds better with fingers than pick. Paul would've used a pick though, right?

Ha! Missed that. Thanks. On that note- Ryan's tone is so excellent that she gets great articulation without a pick.

Thanks for that! And yes, I'd definitely try to go "full Paul" and play it with a pick. I'll typically play it that way live, but figured that for this video, I'd go finger style (mainly because that's how so many viewers are likely to play). Cheers!

Yes, he used a pick and flats. He used the Ricky, but people will say his Hofner. It sounds like a long scale bass, especially when he lands on the G.
