What is the bias of a fabric? In sewing terms, the bias is the diagonal line of woven fabric, where the straight grain and cross grain threads are at a 45-degree angle to each other. This provides the most stretch from the fabric, also known as the true bias. In this video, you’ll learn how to find the bias and cut pattern pieces on the bias as well as top tips for handling and sewing you pieces.

Have you seen the way of cutting continuous bias from a 50cm square? It’s a brilliant way of getting yards of bias from a small piece.

Thank you for another interesting tutorial. I tried making Vogue 8882. It looked like a dogs breakfast by the time I had finished. In fact I never did as I just couldn't get the hem straight. Even got my daughter to help. I've kept it because I liked the fabric and may make a top out of it sometime. What is the chalk you are using? It seemed to flow easily. The ones I use don't flow across the fabric quite so smoothly.
