About this video:
Freeflying is a skydiving discipline which is very technical and challenging. Those are the reasons why I personally love this discipline. This video explains the tips & tricks I learned when I started freeflying.
- Get briefed by an experienced freeflyer and/or a coach
- Make sure your gear is freefly friendly
- Have an audible altimeter
- Consider fallrate changes
- Base position is back-to-earth
- Invest in wind tunnel time
Enjoy!

I have two sit fly attempts. Held the sit ok, but hard to get back to a sit after becoming unstable. I think i'll try back first like you suggested.
@SkydiveVibes
@SkydiveVibes 6 лет назад
It will help as you said when you become unstable but also in transitions. I must admit that with my rig it's harder for me to control my backfly cause I enter into a spin every time. In the tunnel it's easier. ;)

Just finished AFF and grinding through the first 25 jumps to the A. Can't wait to do group jumps. Unfortunately, northern Nevada doesn't have any drop zones so a 3 hour commute is my new weekend thing. Totally worth it!

Hi Catherine!!! I will starting AFF in April and my intention is to progress to freeflying. I’m curious if you could a video about what that progression looks like for a beginner. Thanks for the inspiring and informative content, big fan!!

I plan on joining The Marines as a parachute rigger. I saw somewhere that your chutes in the military can count in the civilian world if they are logged for the FAA. Due to The Marines being a full time job would you say after the military being a rigger at a local Drop Zone would help pay for my jumps and eventually help pay for the higher certifications like the glide suits etc. ? Thanks!
@SkydiveVibes
@SkydiveVibes 6 лет назад
To become a rigger you actually need the rigger course unless it can be credited due to your marine experience. I dont know... Other than that, there are various way to get paid on a DZ with or without education. ;)
@leonjourney8334
@leonjourney8334 5 лет назад
You aren't going to jump much in the Marines. It can help you become a civilian rigger but don't count on getting jump numbers. If you want jump numbers join the army airborne option, for halo school ask for ranger (option 40), or SF mos (if your over 20).

skydive vibes quick question :D do i need 200 skydives before i use track suit as with the wing suit ?
@SkydiveVibes
@SkydiveVibes 5 лет назад
No, you can use a tracksuit before. It will depend on your skills and of your coach. Try to do some track jumps before in order to have a good technique before adding the tracksuit.

Hey Catherine, I am dying to learn to skydive. I live relatively close to 3 drop zones and plan to start this spring when it warms up. One of them has a wind tunnel that they use as part of AFF training. My goal is to get my license and eventually Free fly and swooping. My question is when would I be able to skydive with a canopy such as a PD Valkyrie or Icarus Petra or Leia?
@SkydiveVibes
@SkydiveVibes 5 лет назад
Ok good. Well, do not think about swooping for your first 200 jumps. ;) Take one step at a time, you'll get at that point but for now, you need to learn the basics to be safe in your skydives. Doing wind tunnel as part of your AFF program is a great choice and will help you a lot in your flying progression, so I do recommend it. You need to master that belly flying then you'll be able to dabble with freeflying under the advice of a coach on your DZ. Swooping... just not for now as a new skydiver, this is a very advanced discipline with a lot more risks. ;)

Thanks for your great videos :) How many jumps are necessary for a skydiver to jump in tandem? Thanks
@SkydiveVibes
@SkydiveVibes 5 лет назад
Thanks José! It depends on your skydiving association but the USPA & CSPA recommends 500 jumps. Moreover, you need to go through other ratings before as becoming a Coach.

Do you have to pay more if you want to jump with an organizator or with a group but with a coach 2 ? Thank you !
@SkydiveVibes
@SkydiveVibes 6 лет назад
It depends on the DZ and the coaches. Some organizer & coach will be willing to jump for free but usually, yes you need to pay an extra fee if it's a special event or a specific coaching jump. Ask your DZ and coaches about that. ;)

Can just any license holder start learning the freeflying technique?
@SkydiveVibes
@SkydiveVibes 6 лет назад
Good question! It depends on your association & dz. With the CSPA, anyone can try and start. I guess the USPA is the same. In Europe it's different. I've heard in France you need a special license.
@user-gg8xr6bh7d
@user-gg8xr6bh7d 6 лет назад
Of course, if you start your learning in wind tunnel. 20-30 min for each technique and you'll know how to sit fly, head down and back fly.
@SkydivingTunnelGod
@SkydivingTunnelGod 2 года назад
@@user-gg8xr6bh7d 20-30 minutes for each technique? I believe you mean multiple hours for each technique if you ever want to progress to a level that is satisfactory for the tunnel for most individuals. I am a tunnel instructor and the quickest I have ever seen anyone get signed off on sitfly for example was after around 45 minutes of coaching and this was after having multiple hours of belly and back coaching. I've signed a handful of people off on belly skills in 20 minutes but most around 30-45 minutes. Thats belly flying though because anything more advanced like back, sit, and especially head down takes more time. For competitive VFS some of my students have 30+ hours. Don't even get me started on dynamic flying, that takes some serious time and commitment.

why did u say tht when u fly belly to earth when u lose ur stability in freefly is dangerous..its reduce flyrate but why dangereous
@SkydiveVibes
@SkydiveVibes 3 года назад
If you are jumping with other friends, drastically slowing your fall rate will make you lose sight of them and if someone was above you the collision may be very dangerous.
