I've been tying a ton of Squirmy Wormy flies over the past year or so and I usually end up with a little tag of leftover material for every fly I tie. I've been collecting these bits and it occurred to me that they might be useful for adding to an Estaz Egg, adding another trigger point to the fly.
I use the standard size of Estaz and like to match the squirmy color to the Estaz color, but you can mix it up. A white wormie with an orange body would be a killer combination.

Great video and fly!! Thank you! As a newer guy to this, I do have a few "scraps" when I'm done and this is an awesome idea for those. I have been playing with making my "freak flies" as I call 'em - just taking some leftover material and moving to a smaller hook and seeing what I can create!! haha Good excuse to burn up the smaller pieces and also practice on the smaller hooks too!!

Mike, I like them quick and easy, flies that is, I have a couple runs in mind where this fly will really get some attention. Cheers

Chimo! Ahh worms-n-eggs, breakfast of champions! That's the combo platter right now on the Salmon. Along with a side of nymphs or swung streamer. You do an excellent job of waste management Darren, from panning for gold beads to scrounging flash and threads, wire etc. Now worm ends. Kudos my friend, excellent pattern. Now I'm hungry for licorice whips and rum 🍬 candy! I'll see what's left in the Easter basket. 😋 Cheer's! 👍😎

Chimo! lol yes, the Wheaties of steelhead. I wish the panning was really as easy as that, I'd never need to buy a bead again lol. Enjoy the treats. btw, your flies are in the mail.

Piscator Flies Chimo! Yes indeed, the wonderous spawn of the Piscator vise arrived today. Exquisite gems of fly tying art. I had to use a magnifying glass to see the detail on the nymph ribbing, the tiny eyes on that bucktail streamer. . . and I have new 👓!!!! I'm gonna need some Barry Clarke magnifiers to tie that small, and they're actually not that small! The flies are all magnificent, seriously, well beyond bronze award my friend 👍 Thanks Darren and that awesome Fox 🐺 Man - KJ 🙋Cheers 👋

That is a cool way to use up the short ends, I bet the pink and the chartreuse colored ones would be using full casting to Great Lakes Steelhead, Salmon and Brown Trout.

George, thanks for stopping in and leaving a comment, I like the idea of a pink and chartreuse version. Cheers

Wow... all that squirmy worm material I've wasted in the past. My first steelhead on a fly rod was caught on a pink squirmy worm. Can't wait to try this pattern out for both steelhead and salmon.

Hello I just found you, I have not typed any yet but have been thinking of a small jig for pan fish with the brown squirmy wormy not as big body but that is close to what I won’t to tie. I just do not have time now. Thank you Sir for the video.

David, so glad that you found the channel. I hope that you can bring your vision to fruition. Perhaps the Estaz Petite would work for what you have in mind, it sounds like a good bet. Cheers

How would you fish these? Under a bung or with a retrieve ?
@PiscatorFlies
@PiscatorFlies 5 лет назад
Cameron Rees I would fish it either under a bung or just drift it tight lined with a little split shot added to adjust for depth and water speed. Cheers
