Hello! I live in Brazil and have a ylang ylang tree that is way too high, I cut it but would like to know how to do it properly in order to harvest the flowers? Could you help me?
If it's already a big tree, best to plant a new tree. They grow very fast. I planted on here in Costa Rica a year ago and it's already blooming. If you cut a big tree back so far it will rot in the center. Once your new tree is growing, cut the leader stem at about 2m high and keep cutting off the new shoots to want to grow upwards. It's should end up like the ones in the video.
Apart from standard watering fertilising and pest control measures, you need to train the branches to go downward, like in the video. The reason is this will make the tree produce much more flowers, like an apple tree. Look up how to train fruit tree on the techniques.

It also Needs to Grow in a Place with Access To Cool Winds and Preferably on High & Sloping Ground. For this you Can Use Land Near a River or Lake having a Suitable Micro Climate With Cool Breezes as well as Moisture and preferably even a bit of Rain as well. Also it Needs a Established Forest of Sorts to Thrive - Which Means you need to grow it in a sheltered place as well with Lots of other trees around it and in Partial Shade.
