I watched too many "no foot on the ground" SKATE games where the skaters don't stand any of the flips and it took way too long to end the game. ^^ It also excludes most of the old school tricks and I hate rules. ^^ The way SKATE is played is just too limited. It is also very interesting to see a pro failing a hand shuv 😀
They should just have a special unsanctioned game between Mike V and Andy every year, stick it between the semis and final and make it its own thing, kinda like the Army-Navy game at the end of the NCAA football season

@@ohmaramusic literally, no? It's called calling the trick. Like a game of pig in basketball you call the shot you don't go to a random point and do a random thing with no communication. If I wanted to do a goofy ass thing with my friends (I'd never do this to a stranger) I'd say "no comply fs bluntslide while in nosegrab, then varial out to reg" or an even simpler 'stupid trick' I'd say "tailstall fingflip to primo". Nobody does a random thing, messes it up then pretends to say that was the original trick. It's all about respect and if you respect who you're playing with you'll make sure it's clearly communicated what the intended trick is, because you can do that with regular tricks too. If I don't call out "varial double flip" but then I accidentally just do a tre instead I could pretend that's what I was going for anyway but that's why I call the trick to keep the accountability there. Anything can be a trick, boneless into a bean plant over a step gap is a trick, hell a natas spin is literally considered a trick and that's just spinning in a circle while in a stationary boardstall on top of a fire hydrant or something similar. No need to say I'm "ruining the culture" when gatekeeping and telling people what they can and can't do is what ruins the culture for those in it and those who want to get into it
Andy is the happiest man alive when he’s on a skateboard, he is actually so happy about doing that that he doesn’t care about skateboard community opinion on how to skate. Also… have you seen his performance at the olympics? Cmon that dude if he wanted he could do all the tricks in the world, he just prefer to optimise his unique style
I don't understand the hate towards Andy, Andy's style of skateboarding is old school. Calling "his tricks" dumb is beyond me, Mike V did them, Rodney Mullen invented half of the tricks in skating that this generation is trying to pull off. his style is basically their style. this new generation of skaters are too arrogant and really need to research and stop assuming that how andy skates is too weird and bizarre which thats how street skating began in the early days and is what it is nowadays.
It's dumb because it's not difficult it's just confusing when you only get one chance to see it. You're giving people letters by confusing them not being more skillful and that's a (admittedly smart) yet dumb way to win. They're dumb because they're easy and goofy looking not because they "aren't real tricks" or whatever you're implying he's saying
I think he’s just overrated. He normally appeals mostly to people who don’t skate and the tricks he does appeals to them because they don’t know the difference between an actual hard trick and one that just looks looks. It’s like me skating transition. If I I do a boneless or a boneless lein tail on a ramp. The crowd will go wild for the boneless lein tail which is actually much easier than just the boneless because they just don’t understand that slapping your tail can actually stabilize you and make it much easier to go back in straight than just a doing a regular boneless. Andy is the lein tail guy 24/7. It’s atleast easy for me to understand the hate even if I don’t personally hate him. He also has a big lack of consistency when it comes to competitive runs.

I've met and seen Andy skate. Even encouraged him to go to Cali to show the world the new school of old school skateboarding and where it can go. Very glad he did because at first he said that he had no interest in competing.
Rodney mullen didnt invent street skating, he may claim he did, which you cant do, even if you may have. Marc Gonzales and Natas Kaupas did, they were the first to apply all this to a built environment that wasnt designed for it. And Andy anderson and Rodney mullen are very similar in a lot of ways, they use the socially awkward unique sunflower thing to mask the grimy buisness they are doing. Ill never be a fan of a skater that intends to sell the most expensive board on the shelf, sorry thats what its not about to me.
Imo the last "trick" with a smoth enough turn with another 360 degrees of motion moght actually look really cool ngl and kick flip cancel was kinda clean too
Truth, maybe 2 dirty tricks tho.. Andy played the berrics way more than he played Torey. His first trick was obviously one that just broke multiple rules as an F you to the rules. He respectfully beat his first opponent, within the rules, while also making a huge statement: i think many people missed the point
He had never done them before he made this video... Andy knew he was going to do the trick before the game of skate even started. Obviously Andy will look more stylish
He's one of the best, most interesting skaters in the world right now. It's not dumb because you don't like or understand it. The man intentionally mixes different disciplines and eras with his own quirky sensibility. Vastly more interesting to watch than garden-variety street tricks.
Couldn't agree more. I respect the Berrics for going after a precision form of flatground skating and I thought Andy was an odd choice to compete. But then, he busts out perfect flip tricks. He got into Tory's head.

@@MrKylederp watch his lines at tampa pro. a lot of his tricks may be old but it's refreshing to see something different. you can watch him skate and it's completely distinguishable from everyone else. that's why the crowd goes crazy and the room is in complete silence when they see mundane skaters that look nearly identical even when it's the most difficult shit.
@@MrCCFCfanPretty sure it was called a kick flip and not a heelflip back then, my man. It doesn't follow the later rotation-direction rules of the modern kick/heelflip. You used the front of your foot to flip the board with a kick.
@cxx23 yeah you're probably right, back then it would just be called a kickflip. Although nowadays people do both variations so I find it easier to call one an oldschool kickflip and the other an oldschool heelflip (as in rotates towards you - kickflip, away from you - heelflip). If it were back then we wouldnt need to add oldschool either. I guess I'm looking at it from a modern perspective

No gatekeeping here, they sure as hell look silly and its definitely against the rules of the competition. They're obviously fun, but its dumb fun, and its not exactly technical. This is like me playing a Sonic Youth breakdown at a guitar shred solo competition from the 80s.
Andy is so creative! I love that a lot of his tricks arent even that hard, they just look cool af. And some of them don't look that cool, but are so fucking hard to learn lol.
I've actually met Andy by lucky chance while he was going to get some grub, He's a super down to earth guy and honestly if you just asked him he would tell you how to do the trick and teach you, give you a fair chance for sure, probably even let you do a practice. try in a game of skate
@@Pete42069 all games have to have rules. In a game of chess, you can't just move your pawn wherever you want. Rules allow for fair competition. In a game of skate, there needs to be rules. I can't just throw my board in the air to make it spin around randomly and then jump back on it and expect you to do the same thing. It's just stupid. If you can't understand that, then there is no reason to keep arguing.
The first one looks like a danceboard trick (A danceboard is a longboard that's meant for little steps and turns and stuff on the board, there's also less dancey trickery of course, it's really fun!)
Ok they are not dumb tricks, Andy just plays around on the board, and I didnt watch BATB, but if the tricks counted, they counted if the judge wanted them to.
Seen this dude skate and love it, same style I used to rock. You gotta have love for old school fundamentals and creativity in skating, everyones too focused on elite sport like maneuvers and technicality. Bring back Style AND creativity!
As many people have stated, most people, me included, believe he's not calling his trucks dumb in general, but in the context of a batb game of skate there are rules that are literally read to you at the beginning, the first thing Andy did was break those rules, pretty dumb if you ask me
