Learning blender am I right? This short video showcases how I feel about that.
In case is not clear, this is a parody and I actually found the CG Geek tutorial really helpful when I started.
Music used in this video:
- Senran Kagura, I'll Make Sure to Protect You!: • Senran Kagura Estival ...
- Coconut Mall Theme: • Coconut Mall - Mario K...
- SSBU Main Theme: • Main Theme [NO LYRICS]...
-ミカヅキBIGWAVE - Emotional Prism: • ミカヅキBIGWAVE - Emotiona...
If you want you can follow me on twitter, I don't use it that regularly but I'll work on that.

TRUE! I've been using blender for 9 years, but about 90% of my skills came from the last 3 or so years, when I decided to focus on what I personally cared about, rather than what I thought would impress or make other people laugh.

I agree with this wholly. A tutorial might be good to let you get ahold of the reins, but motivation comes from doing something that you love, which in turns feels rewarding, which in turn will make you want to do it more. I think that people need to bite off a bit more than they can chew, so they can make mistakes and learn, whilst going for a goal that they personally want to achieve

I think the biggest hurdle for a lot of newcomers is figuring out all the hotkeys and shortcuts. The interface is really complicated in some areas and weirdly sparse in others, and a lot of tools and options are hidden unless you know the right keyboard combinations. Tutorials for other programs like Photoshop say things like "use the move tool" when Blender tutorials say "press G Z and type 10, then click"

Yup, I started using blockbench since it's way easier. It's purposefully a lot simpler and lacks a lot of stuff but works well for low-poly models like what I want to make. Was able to bang out a character model with a walk animation, separate the arms from the model and rig them to a gun and then animate the shooting, reloading, idle, each of which have an empty variant animation, and then exporting them as gltf and importing them into godot to get an ugly but functional fps sandbox setup from scratch in like 2 days. If I were still using blender I'd still be trying to design the character and also be stuck following a guide and not actually understanding what I'm doing. One complaint I do have is that attaching a gun to the hand of the arms model causes transforms for some reason so it's a pain since I have to position them separately instead of linked together.

Pro tip for newbies: if you want to be successful "learning Blender," the first thing you should realize is you're not in fact "learning Blender." Oh sure, you're learning Blender in the sense that you're learning the interface and the various features of the program, but what you're REALLY doing is learning how to make 3D art. Blender is just the piece of software you happen to be using. 3D art, meanwhile, is a SKILL (or more accurately, a whole range of skills including modeling, sculpting, UVing, material creation and painting, rigging, animating, lighting, rendering, and so on). SKILLS take time to develop, and you're not going to master it after just a few RU-vid videos. But if you break it down, focus on one or two things at a time, and keep developing those skills, you'll eventually get pretty good at it. And as a bonus, suddenly all those hotkeys and menu options and display panels that seem so mysterious in Blender now will make a hell of a lot more sense.

Years ago (maybe even 10, Idk), when I was a teenager, I did the donut tutorial & recently remembered that I even at least started the cup (which I had completely forgotten about until then). Sadly, I have no footage of that- just my memories like making radioactive green icing- which is unusual for me as I started posting my art pretty early on. Anyways, Idk how I did it. Guess I was just more motivated back then & it was before school, mental health & physical issues weighed me down so much that I'd barely do anything besides the essentials, partially therapy & acting class. For years I'd want to proprly learn 3D art for various reasons- & then last year I made awesome friends through which my life has been improving more & more & we've started working on creative projects together. Those mental health improvements, learning from them & me still working on & looking out for myself led to great motivation & a surprisingly chill (re)"start" to learning Blender- after another donut tutorial try (didn't get far) in September had left me in such an "oof" state (not necessarily overwhelmed, just not the right way for me + frustration, a bunch of fears, etc.). In my opinion the keys were or are: •an overview video (SharpWind) •a tutorial that was right for my brain (CG Fast Track's Minecraft Pillars) aka not too fast & didn't start with hotkeys/shortcuts which led to me quickly seeking out & introducing the shortcuts myself after I had understood the basics; I also watched the tutorial while eating before following it so I'd know what I was up for & didn't have to process new info & apply it at the same time. •a goal/project(s) & support system (my friends, co-working streams & Discord channels); due to my current point in life it's also important for me to see sense & a future in something (which works with my health issues etc.) I'm super motivated & putting a lot of time & energy into learning already but I'm also watching out for myself- try to take enough breaks & chill before things go downhill. I take my time as that's the fastest path anyways- stress or trying to learn at someone else's pace will bring worse results anyways. I'm currently kind of jumping between tutorials (PIXXO 3D) & have attempted tiny projects on my own to try & see what I can do already. Switching between projects also helps with applying what you've learned in one tutorial in another 🎉 Happy learning everyone & all the best ✨

@luigimaster111 Год назад
As a Blender user since 2.5, I believe the better tutorials to start with are actually ones focused on creating architecture and cityscapes. Buildings are mostly just cubes with a bit of flavoring, and Blender already starts you with a cube so half the work is already done! Also, 2D is always more forgiving when it comes to creating a videogame, so it can boost the confidence a bit to use Blender to create pr-erendered 2D assets for your games since you'll have severely less technical faff to deal with. Jumping right into character creation with Blender is much like trying to learn to cook by following a Souffle recipe when you don't even know how to boil a pot of water yet. Also like cooking, it's beneficial to approach it with an experimental mindset, Often I don't open Blender with a goal in mind, it's just my sketchpad, I suppose like learning most things a large step forward is learning what questions to ask, and experimenting often creates those questions. The struggles other people have with Blender are the same ones I have when trying to learn to code, I'm trying to reorient my brain to think of coding in the same manner as Blender, but it's difficult, just far less intuitive and obvious than Blender was for me starting out. Sometimes it's okay to admit defeat and just doing what you know what you are capable of for the sake of productivity, you can always fallback on voxels as that's more intuitive form of modeling for most, and I fellback onto visual scripting, it's limiting but I grew up on Warioware D.I.Y and Scratch so I can actually create something with it rather than just spinning my wheels with Python scripting.

Blender is easy, focusing and deciding what to learn is the difficult part. Nothing you want to learn is hard in this day and age with tutorials for everything. Just image if you wanted to learn something you have to go through 1000's of pages of a bible to learn it. The thing is people are far more lazier now even with all the knowledge at their finger tips.
@marxy37dev
@marxy37dev 2 года назад
@@ArtwithAmarBrisco Well... yes AND no. In the end it just depends of what you think the word "easy" really means. Here's what i think about this: 1) "Nothing you want to learn is hard in this day and age with tutorials for everything." I partially agree. Nowadays is easier than ever was to get into anything. But that's the key word: easy to START. If you want to get good, you still have to go reading all the 1000+ pages of (online) blender documentation at some point of your life. And while the tools to do so are waaay better than 10+ years ago, the time and effort that it requires to do so it's the same 2) "Blender is easy" Let's discuss how learning works, regardless of what you want to learn, or the tools you have to do it: you have a skill that is outside of your confort zone, so you search how to do it and you try to do it. maybe you fail at first, but eventually (assuming you don't quit) you'll succeed. Keep doing the same thing over and over and you'll slowly improve at it, noticing and correcting your past mistakes, and getting that skill closer to your middle of confort zone. Eventually you'll get that skill refined to the point that I will be easy for you to do, and you can even do it with your eyes closed. This, however, does NOT mean that the skill is easy, it just means that you're improved your skill level in that one particular skill. You'll be discarding you own effort to learn that particular skill in saying otherwise 3) "The thing is people are far more lazier now even with all the knowledge at their finger tips" For most people, that's just not true. Lazy people existed before, do and will always exist. Ease of knowledge isn't the cause here. Same argument for lack of focus/attention or procrastination. The only argument i could see here that's somewhat reasonable it's that people often get distracted by things like social media, but this has more to do with questionable habit and environment design than anything else, really (and this is a topic for another day)
@marxy37dev
@marxy37dev 2 года назад
@@raandomplayer8589 Unity uses a left-handed orientation to calculate the rotation model [X, Y, Z], while blender (and i believe maya too, but idk for sure) uses a right-handed orientation [X, Z, Y]. If you'd to import the model as the are in unity you'd see that they'd be rotated on their side. There are many small "fixes" that you could do to fix this "problem" (one of which is just rotate the model 90°, that unity already does by default. Another could be to wrap the model in a ScriptableObject), but those are just "band-aid" solutions, and there isn't really a "true solution" to this problem The topic is quite elaborate, and i'm very bad at explaining things, so if you're interested i suggest to do some researches on the "left vs right handed orientation systems"

My process was XNALara to DAZ to Blender, and along the way, I gradually picked up things I needed to understand for Blender. When I reached blender, I had some vague grasp of the interface system and the terminology. Researching just the key words and discarding tutorials that start off with "Hi my name is (20 goddamned minute intro), and just looking for stuff like "lazy tutorials" and "one minute tutorials" is helping me jump up my skills relatively quickly. Also, look up resources from folks on Deviantart and forums instead of depending on tutorial videos that never get to the point, especially if you have a question about a specific term like cycles/evee, etc. Often you'll find the answer a lot quick and you don't have to deal with some dude talking at you over Mario music. Another really easy way to feel empowered with the program is to just fuck around with the sculpt tools on a sphere, and keep subdividng the shape. It's not a practical way to build a model, but it will let you feel like you're creating something organic and cool without a lot of hassle. Farther than that, just trial and error, playing around, asking asking asking questions to anyone and everyone who has any experience with the program until they want to gouge out their eyes from reading your dumb questions, and a lot of techno music and patience have been the keys to helping me learn. For reference, I have been learning for about a year on and off, and I'm at the point where I can make textured models ready to render in cycles. It's nothing professional yet, and I'm still having trouble with rigging, but I feel confident enough with the program to create a product that represents what I imagined in my head. All that being said, you nailed it- trying to find resources online is like scratching nails on a chalkboard. Good luck with your endavors!

apply the scale on your model, and go into edit mode and select everything (press A) and then press Shift+N to recalculate normals. that should fix your wide character and back not being visible.

Blender’s not….that bad. It only took me 3 years to get to where I am 😆 The first year of which I scoured RU-vid trying to find a good start-to-finish character-making tutorial (none exist, except the series I just finished making for other people). Most of it I had to figure out on my own 😬 Anyway, this was a highly entertaining video😅 you did a great job summing up everyone’s first Blender experience.

Everyone learns a bit different, though the start is usually the hardest, may as well start with something fun.

the hardest part of learning this program is having somebody who instantly can tells you whats the problem . i am currently a 5 days old learner . I really like this allready . For me sofar the biggest drawback when i bump into an easily solvable issue but i need somebody to tell me to turn off "proportional editing" cuz i dont even realize when did i incidently start using it . So yeah if a small issue happens . solving it under 2 minutes or 2 hours can be huge difference when the amount getting add up.

Blender is a gift that keeps on giving and the community just makes it that much more interesting. So many people are willing to give feedback and share resources. Just like everything else, it takes time to learn, but persevere! Also, by all means do the Donut, but you won't come out of it a pro simply because it focuses on the larger aspect of Blender. Instead, learn how to get comfortable with shortcuts and movements. I highly recommend CrossMind Studio's Introduction to Blender crash course. You'll come out of it an Intermediate to Advanced user, it's that good!
