JavaScript is used everywhere now. There's a ridiculous amount of it so it's fundamental. Some people use JS in every layer (backend, frontend). They even do the css directly in the JavaScript now!!

JavaScript is really awkward and not suitable for tasks that are sequential / synchronous in nature. It's good for handling events like network requests or gui. People fail to mention that when discussing it vs Python. Totally different tool for different use.

I agree with your metaphor, and I think overall programming skills can help you pick up languages easier, but I don't really agree with telling them to pick up a new language, when they are struggling with one already. I think a better solution would be to refresh their knowledge with basic programming concepts, and the basic language specific concepts.

I personally think javascript is a messy and inconsistent language. Learning python first would help you understand programming, and then you will apply your knowledge to learning javascript.

Hi Unc. Stefan is it necessary to learn Algorithms and Data Structures to understand Coding with JavaScript and /or Python or even PHP?

Algorithms and data structures help you solve tough problems and make you think more about the efficiency of code. It's great for programmers to have, but no you can certainly begin programming without learning them. Especially for PHP and Javascript, since you are working with the web, you will probably never need to know the advanced algorithms like Djistkra's. That being said, data structures are a basic part of any language and you can't learn the language without them. I would focus on learning the languages data structures (e.g. for python: dict, list, tuple) rather than getting in the more difficult realm of learning hash maps, stacks..etc. Working on projects is imo the best way to learn coding and you can pick up Algorithms and data structures later when needed.

Hi, I have just finished my first year of Computer Science Degree and I got 2 more years to go, I learned Java to the Intermediate level, but I don't feel like it's enough to get me a job, I'm looking to try out Python or JavaScript on the side and see if I can find a job after building a few projects, I really want to get into Software Engineering while I'm still learning, what would be your recommendation?

Go out there and approach small business and offer to write code for them, build something for them for free. Don't take on a massive project, something moderate. This will skyrocket your skills and career.

I would recommend doing your own project if going out into the industry seems too daunting. I couldn't do that. I mean, freelancing is not within my skillset. But I did get a job through building my own project. By using my favourite laguage (C++) it matched me with the perfect job.

Yes front end is HTML/CSS. You don't need js for front end at all. It's just mainstream pushed shit. All animations can be done on CSS only. For functionality use php. Problem solved.

Relying solely on server-side logic (PHP) means you have to refresh the whole page for every action, which is less user-friendly compared to the single-page applications enabled by JavaScript frameworks.

@@TN-es7eiNever had any problems with that. Currently I'm developing rpg game and thinks are refreshing and changing. Still 0 problems. Don't understand me wrong, if you are happy keep using it, but people act like without js is no chance to build anything. You can get smooth and beautiful pages and experience without it.
