@@martinusolimpus7349nonono, you’ve got this all wrong. By your logic a les Paul is just a telecaster and a Lamborghini countach is just a fiat 500 on steroids
@@MatejaTodorovic-lq7em i would say it's more like a karate chop, turned on to the palm slightly... 'palm' is what they call it though, not saying you were wrong, it's just a confusing term i think.
it can't do that, there are none, that's how you can hear it.. maybe you were joking, my bad, i played for 35 years though and i if want to cut through a live mix, when volume or eq don't seem to do it, the mute comes out to play, palm must anything and it cuts through any mix, i use all degrees of 'percussiveness' even on single notes and solos.
@@reeeeeeeman8792although he’s not a beginner guitarist i am and i’d argue the spider riff is a fair amount harder than anything else i’ve attempted so far
@@G5XD its that hand shape. Dave mustane had a tight fretboard and lanky hands so a spider riff wasn't hard for him to write but it takes a lot of practice and good technique if your hands aren't built for it.
Sorry for being a smartass but, the original recording of MOP doesn't use that much distortion at all, at least compared to modern day metal. This is actually what makes it great, u still have the low mids being clear giving good rhythmic "thuds" creating a stronger rhythm, something which is lost with too much gain. Modern bands compensate this by doing the "djent" sound, where they just play more staccato, so they still get strong "thuds" which was lost by too much gain, or they add more double kick drums to push rhythm harder. Metallica's distortion is more a beefed up hard rock sound. They sound more metal because of multi tracking and mid scooping, not having over the top gain.
As more an an extreme metal head, I’m usually skipping through these videos because they always pop up on my page since there’s a guitar in it. Nice to see that you’re looking into other genres and I hope you continue to pursue more metal riffs!! It’s the coolest music on earth man
@@jazzercise300 yeah, they can do pretty much any kind of music, but I guess that's why metal guitars are made. Maybe if I become a famous guitarist one day, when I kick the bucket I'll get mine put in a museum!
Honestly it’s good that you’re expanding your horizons. Some tips -palm muting -more bass tone -practice Maybe choose a guitar more fit for the genre, fenders are great for classic rock, blues, and jazz but it’s shown up many other guitars when it comes to Metallica esc music
Kirk Hammett uses a strat very frequently its definitely his not main rig but to say a strat can't be used for Metallica is wrong. though i do agree with the other stuff completely
You did a good job. If you're not used to play that type of music it's hard but you just have to work on it. You know the old saying practice, practice, practice.
@@idk9637 well practice practice practice might not be a saying but I like it. My son's learning guitar and I tell him if it was easy everybody would play.
@@scorpions1965 fr, Mikey Piscopo is actually a really good guitar player so it’s fascinating seeing him kinda butcher songs like this, goes to show that the techniques in metal guitar are super different from what he plays
I love this because it just shows how great and diverse music is. I am the complete opposite of you in play style, learned growing up almost exclusively metal, am more often then not downstroking, and almost never without heavy distortion lol. It was rather funny thinking about how this would seem foreign. Coincidentally though I picked up learning some jazz stuff last month so I completely understand this feeling!
Keep it on my dude! I've always been a metal head so it's one of the first riffs I tried to learn so if you are not used to trash riffs the heavy palm mute and the fast downpick can get tricky to get, but it's a whole lot of fun, you should keep going with some other metal tracks
People gotta let this man be😭 he clearly loves learning guitar and we all can be better in some way. Why flame him about palm mutes and distortion and liking Jimi Hendrix?
The lack of palm muting is forcing me to say nay on nailing it. You did great learning the notes of the riff. And that's just fine, but the palm mute being left out is a significant factor in this riff. Nice effort!
There's a 99% chance you can't play the simplest metal rift properly, so I wouldn't be talking, mister "if it doesn't have a shit ton of distortion and shredding I don't like it"
Dude got there in 3 hours!? Thats amazing, truly. There's always room for improvement but keep in mind it took James and Kirk years of practicing punk and metal riffs and then WRITING two metal albums before they got to Master of Puppets. For a non metal guitarist you did insanely well.
Palm mute every time you pick the open E and it'll be perfect. Palm muting is super tough if you've never practiced it. Just think of the palm muted position as your default hand position and sort of bounce your hand up when you need to ring out a note or chord. With a bit of practice it'll start to feel natural.
