I echo the sentiments at the end of this video. I am approaching 6 months since relearning CW after a 25+ year Hiatus. Because of CW Academy and Kurt’s content, I am now surpassing the 20 WPM level, something I could never do before. My go-to last week was his top 100 words @ 25. WPM. Today it was 30, and I need to bump it up to 35 tomorrow. The patterns of the words are now starting to click. I hit a lot of walls along the way, but the videos make it east to target your weaknesses. It is tremendously fulfilling to get to this point.

I've been using Kurt files daily. I believe it is really helping me character recognition and head copy. It was great to hear his thoughts on learning.

Yes, he has really interesting and useful insights. There are a lot of us out there who have been using his stuff. And it's amazing he asks nothing in return.

I’ve been using the Kurt Zoggelman single letter/number 17WPM “speed racing” as a learning tool for the last 6 months along with Morse machine app 15 minute session every day.! I listen while driving. Being a Ohio SOTA activator require LOTS of driving! My Morse recognition has skyrocketed......V and 4 still get me tripped up...lol SOTA is the reason for my Morse journey! Thanks for making this series! “73”

I had an aha moment. As many people have said in comments on the practice files, they listen while doing something else. I think that may be key for many people, distract that conscious mind with some task and listen in the background with the unconscious mind.
@RedSummitRF
@RedSummitRF 2 года назад
I've head of others doing that, and I do it on occasion. Couldn't hurt, right!?
@patrickbuick5459
@patrickbuick5459 2 года назад
@@RedSummitRF Exactly. I have been playing while going to and sleeping. I'm seeing some progress, which is good, as I had hit a wall, probably a combination of word association to character sounds and counting elements. Consistency over the next few weeks will likely make or break hihi.

Great interview with Kurt, he has me thinking that perhaps I need to stop trying to get on the air like I have and focus on my head copy. My sending is okay but my copy leaves a lot to be desired. I'll also be checking out his website. 😎👍

Just an inexpensive MKJ one from Amazon. amzn.to/3IUe2Np If the link doesn't work, do a search in Google for "Red Summit RF Amazon Storefront" and it's listed in there under "Audio and Video"

I got my first ticket in 1993 and had to learn cw for each of my upgrades. I only wish resources like this were available then. I’m going to go to Morse Ninja and see if I can upskill myself. I’m good to about 35wpm contesting but portable heaps slower and rag chewing slower yet. Great to see content like this. 73 de Vk2icj

The only question I have is if you are head copying at 30 WPM and you come upon strange words, how does one handle that? Does one need to "memorize" nearly everyword? Especially when doing this subconsciously. I'm noticing improvement in head copying sentences when I drill on the set of words the sentences are based upon, but when I run into new words in a sentence, I have trouble with them and drilling on them to get familiar with them is my only cure at the moment - is there another remedy I'm overlooking?
@RedSummitRF
@RedSummitRF 2 года назад
You know Tom, that is a good question and one that I have as well. Good point. One of us should email Kurt and ask.
@tjmozdzen
@tjmozdzen 2 года назад
@@RedSummitRF I did email him after posting and if I understand his drift, I think you just have to learn all the words. Just like learning to read between the ages of 4 and 10 or so. Here is his reply "As far as drilling on the "Top Two Letter Combinations in Words" and "Top Three Letter Combination in Words," it will help you better recognize words you haven't encountered before using ICR (Instant Character Recognition). It should speed up learning new words using IWR (Instant Word Recognition), but it will still take practice just because of what it is."
