Whenever I try to learn a new song I always get distracted and start learning a new one. The result: I know the first minute of like 40 different songs. . .
I have felt this before, it's pretty nice. It wasn't this song though, it was The Entertainer by Scott Joplin.. it took 32 hours over two months to learn, and the first time I played it fully without major mistakes was so nice.. but I still need a LOT of practice to play it without mistakes..
I learn piano exactly the same way, though I do the hours over several days. Anyone who wants to do this well, there was an article I read that really helped me. Here are the 3 tips that greatly sped up my learning: 1. Press only the right notes - when you are first learning the notes, go as slowly as you need to in order to play the notes correctly right from the start. This way, you don’t ever practice wrong notes and you won’t make mistakes easily later because your fingers and mind won’t have any memory of wrong notes. 2. Learn the notes one hand at a time and then together - this one really helped, especially with complicated songs, as you will hear the melody and harmony clearly before putting them together and that makes it easier to remember the song. 3. Before you start learning the piece, break it up into parts and understand the structure - learning the structure ie intro, verse, chorus etc makes it so much easier to remember where you are as you are learning and takes a load off your mind. It’s all about memory! Good luck to all you aspiring RU-vid pianists. The world needs better melodies!
@@Daniel-wn4yj I learned to read sheet music by the age of 6, studied the ABRSM syllabus but I hated learning the piano that way. Shame because I ended up missing out on years of joy and fun. I've spent more time playing and enjoying the piano since I learned how to read synthesia videos. Maybe it's the colours, or the fact that I can visualise the actual playing of a piece that way. I do agree though, it is important to learn how to read sheet music, as it will give you a clear understanding of the structure of music pieces.
Adrian Mark I practice it this way as well. For me it is a lot easier to see which keys to play. Ik that learning sheet music is important but I’ll probably stick to practicing from synthesia videos.
@@Daniel-wn4yj well idk.... I learned how to play 4 instruments and I really don't know how to read sheet music that well. I think what got me through it is I can listen to the piece and be able to play it by ear... and it helped me with All instruments including piano... I only need Tutorials for detail parts.... So what I'm pretty much trying to say is that you don't need A sheet of paper to know how to play music And to say there's only one way You're really closing your self off sadly.😶😶
This is a true story: I watched this video 2 years ago. It had proven to me that you could actually accomplish things if you have the time and patience. Now 2 years later I learned to play this songs and other songs and even wrote my own piece. Thank you so much!
I remember how as a beginner it took me about a month and a half, now it takes me about 10 to 30 minutes max to learn a song. But if the song is like too advance and I wanna learn it than it’ll take me a week to two. I love the progress I’ve made over 5+ years of being a self taught. Anyone can do it if you give yourself time and commitment to finish what you want done. There’s no progress if you didn’t put more effort into your work. Anything’s possible, you just gotta try and keep putting more effort into it.
Even as a beginner this one should not take more than 2 hours I believe. Probably one of the easiest pieces out there. Assuming you're 2 months into learning piano. :3
You’re inspiring. I’ve been so negative and lazy lately but this video has taught me I’m able to achieve my goals if I work hard and with determination. Thanks you deserve a million likes and even more.
Listen to piano pieces while you sleep or if you are a pianist but aren’t that great become roommates with a super pianist that only plays while you sleep 👍
This is exactly what self teaching is like, people only ever see the end result. Ive self taught from the age of 12, I am now 20 and play at a grade 8 level without a single lesson and its an infuriating process. Huge respect!
@@divinebubblegum5377 learn to read sheet music and stop listening to these people that don't have 1 video of them doing anything. Sometimes it's fun to watch a tutorial and try to learn a song BUT I always go back to learning to read the music so one day I can play any piece without having to watch RU-vid.
wow i just started to self teach myself a few years ago just off youtube videos no teacher no sheet music i already learned this song but it’s hard self teaching. any tips. i like learning this way but i feel like by not learning sheet i’m not really learning piano but i rather not learn sheet if i can but i’m only 15 now but any tips you have would be appreciated you sound very inspiring:)
WTF guys i'm learning the death waltz, I train 2 hour for this music today, and i know all the left hand, and i'm training for the right hand, i know the most part of it but it's quite slow, so i train to speed it up, with a bit of training you can do anything, for example I'm 15 y o, i play since i'm 10 (3 years with a teaches and 2 years without), and i'm ready to play death waltz so with a bit of training you will do the wii theme song
Me: *Kept trying to play new song, and not finishing even one* Result: Me: *Plays the beginning of Moonlight Sonata Movement 1* Cousin: "Continue it" Me: "How about some Für Elise?"
It’s funny I don’t know how to read music or really play piano but I dedicated like 30 hours to learning fur Elise from a RU-vid tutorial and can pretty much play it perfectly. Every time I try to learn a new song I get frustrated and end up just going back to playing that every time😂
I seem to have cracked the RU-vid algorithm and this keeps getting views, so thanks to those who're subscribing. I've posted a new video and plan to post more, so feel free to comment your suggestions. Here's the link to my latest 10 hour video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kghp4Zliv1U.html
Everything is achievable through long hours of hard work, even playing something flawlessly for the first time. While it is something one can be proud of, it does not demean what others with less hours of work can accomplish.
Sight reading a getting the melody right at first glance is possible. It is sad to see so many people not using sheet music. Knowing how to read sheet music opens up many doors.
This whole piece is basically the same 3 sequences repeating over and over again, occasionally adding some downward scales. Bass clef is basically chord arpeggios, which is really easy. Instead of practicing 2 hands at the same time for 10 hours, what I may suggest is, practice just your right hand non stop for 30-45 minutes interval for 2-3 sessions. By the end of it, you'd have gotten your the sequence and fingering right. Then let your scales arpeggio take over. For an experienced pianist, the bass clef probably takes you 5-6 run through, probably within 15-30 minutes you'd be used to it. Then combining both hands together probably take another 30-45 minutes to master. Once you can play without mistake, spend another 30-45 minutes into developing your play style, and implement your emotions into it. By the end of 5-6 hours of total practicing, you'd be able to perform "professionally", instead of doing 10 hours straight and still make mistakes here and there. Just my opinion on how to practice the right way. :) Cheers.
You’d probably need sight reading experience to do that. He was probably using synthesia or learning from a RU-vid video which typically teaches both hands at the same time. Idk, I’m not a professional.
I can feel the pain and I know how mad and fed up to ourself every time we missed the note but after all he’s literally playing without any sheet notes, i think he shows us how many struggle he’s been through and let us know to never give up. Wow he’s amazing and so talented. Thanks for sharing this video 👏
God you have no idea how much this helped me. I just started playing, and I thought I was doing something horribly wrong while trying to learn pieces, which would be taking forever. I thought “real” pianists pick things up in under an hour. Knowing I’m not the only one just really puts me back on track! Thanks :)
Once you spend 10h on something then you don't want to let it go to waste. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the only song he played for the next few weeks.
I play piano and one thing they teach us during lessons is that if you're preforming live and you make a mistake just act like it never happened bc it's not like the audience can see your sheet music lmao
he's very talented i can literally say it. i think i memorized River flows in you for like a 2 months? it's really amazing that only in 10 hours he already knew it. keep it up!
There's certainly more simple songs out there. And just because it's simple doesn't mean it's easy. The flow in this song is what makes it hard, and what makes it hard to complete without making a mistake.
Just loved it when you looked at the camera and said "oh my god" then walked away lol, I've done that so many times. Amazing job btw, it has given me hope.
Hey, it doesn’t have to be perfect when you learn it. Step 1: if you get a note wrong fix it, and continue and try to remember the fixed note, and try not to start again or you’ll get angry. Step 2: don’t rush it, play it slowly first. Hope this helped 😀
Chloe 38 that’s one thing that many people forget to do, to look at the song and notes that are being played and try to play them right, with the riht dynamics and everything
Does people replaying on this comment knows how to play or knows the basics of piano because if you guys don't know river flows is easy (I am not flexing because i am bad at playing the piano but i know the basics) i have learnt that in 20 minutes or so (because river flows has a lot of looping notes in it)because i know the basics and if he really did do that in 10 hours with all those little mistakes he did and his wrong hand position(which was understandable because he said he was new at that time with out a teacher)then it is real.
@@pedro_sedso fingers too relaxed?do you even play the piano or understand/know how a relaxed finger is when playing the piano because it seems to me you're just skeptical about the fact that this guy worked hard to play and learn this simple piece(if you know the basics) that some are too lazy to even achive this type of achivement in their life
Sheet music tells you dynamics rhythm and more. Sheet music skills transfer from piece to piece so in the long run you will be able to learn very difficult pieces with relative ease depending on you experience with sheet music. And it is way more detailed that just notes and it’s much better than synthesia in the long run. However, for people who would like to only play a handful of easy pieces or songs, then synthesia is a great tool for them. I think synthesia is great toobecause it gets more people into piano. I myself started with synthesia and now I am taking weekly lessons practicing sheet music and learning more than I ever expected. Don’t be afraid to try, it’s fun!
Vikrant i dunno about you, but one day i was practicing piano and something just clicked inside my brain and suddenly both of my hands were completely independent of each other. If you want an easier song than this try #deep - Bo Burnham, a guy named lyricwulf has made a composition on that song.
Thank you for cheering up, i don't have piano right now but i am saving up for it. I have been reading piano and music theory books, will buy a decent digital piano in few months :) It was just a joke.
The frustration of messing up and being intimidated of seeing the keys in a hard part, it's the same process i went through learning my first piece last week, I related so much. It was fun watching this video.
Estimated time to learn river flows is 10 minutes below if you know the basics and no i am not felxing because i am not a good pianist i am just making my point because i know the basics
nah I started learning piano this past Christmas it took me a collective 17hrs to kinda get used to he piece you can tell he’s not faking it cause of how hard he’s breathing it means he’s not comfortable he and trying REALLY hard not to mess up you can tell when someone is a master or beginner off this
Emilia maangrue OMG SAME. I tried learning Death By Glamour and Bohemian Rhapsody. To this day, the only songs I know to play fully are Any Way You Want It, Faded, Believer, Meglovania, Darkside, Enter Sandman, and some jazz pieces.
Thanks. You have inspired me and taught me that we are lazy and just sit back thinking that a skill will take too long to master.... It all depends on how much time you put in into practice. You put in 10 hours which is incredible!!! Someone would have 20-30 minutes each day of practice. That would take a maximum of 20 days or more I think. You just gotta put in effort and more time into it. I am going to do it!!!!!
This is the first time there has ever rolled a tear from my face, because of the inspiration and motivation you showed. This is true dedication. Always live by the manner of learning. Never giving up is key! As Mae West once said "You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough".
Kid you really have a talent for being self taught from hearing it to the heart in it took you ten hours but I have spent at least four weeks at it I have the right hand sound but I am not really that accomplished with the left hand yet to make it all come together you are really lucky congratulations on this piece. You have shown great determination and I loved the way you brought it together in the end it was very enjoyable to listen to. You have great skill and determination so keep at the keyboard you are another yiruma and you should pursue a full time interest in the keyboard/piano and I would advise finding yourself a teacher who will teach you advanced techniques and pieces of music because it is very rare to see such talent as yours and I know it will truly make you very happy and this is sound advice from a experienced musician its just been a lot if years since I have played the keyboard/piano and guitar so I have a long road back so grab this God given skill of yours and grab the opportunity while you can because to see a talent like yours is once in a lifetime thing please do something wonderful with it and go and touch peoples heart and souls with it.
So a friend of mine got a new keyboard, and he lent me his old one, he said i should start to learn keyboard. SO i brought it home and played it from absolutely zero experience on keyboard. While searching tutorials on youtube i suddenly thinking why dont i learn this beautiful song from a korean pianist and i was like "who is he again". SO i found the tutorial and start learning from that. Now its been 4 days since i start following the tutorial, and i already be able to play like this guy, but still this is my first ong on keyboard. Idk if my progress a bit slower, but for sure ive fallen in love with this instrumental music already.
Merran Thompson how does he have talent? For searching a song on the internet, yeah sure in the end he’s able to play it, but it’s of utmost importance to read sheet music and from my own experience, I’ve learnt rondo alla turca on RU-vid and eine kleine Nachtmusik on sheet and I finished eine kleine Nachtmusik much faster
This is quite accurate to how self teaching goes. That first piece especially is insanely difficult, but every little bit of progress you make feels amazing. I started with Moonlight Sonata 1st movement a few months ago and now can play it blindfolded. I try to learn a bit of music theory and read some sheet music fairly regularly as well, but synthesia videos really help keep you motivated to keep playing.
Hahaha i did the same thing 12 years ago to impress a girl i like back in middle school, I did it for 7 hours and my dad got mad because i played on an accoustic piano til 11 pm 🤣
I like your determination to be 10 hours practicing, I have tried many times to play river flowers in you but I am very negative with myself and I give up easily :c now I do not have so much time to practice since I study late and I am too lazy to dawn to practice hehe, luck and I hope you are better :3
I try my hardest in school but my retarded teacher dosen't believe in me because i dont get straight A's all the time and my parents literaly gave up on me. They don't even ask if i have homework when i come home. I could get really good at something but it feels like everything falls down around me, my friends, my parents and even my dog. When i mess up it's the same thing. Nowadays i dont go out anymore, my friends don't want to talk to me, but i try my best to have a smile and be thankful for all the games that i can play and my books that i can read. and live a good life until i find someone that can make me happy like i once was. i still don't know why i open up to people that might not care. Maybe it's because i want someone to hear how i feel because no one else will.
@@Jesteban-fu8qy dude, u dont need other people to make you happy, if you depend your happiness on others, then you are in for a very bad time. Learn to manage yourself and be happy with yourself first rather than the other way. Good luck
@@Jesteban-fu8qy I understand how you really feel, I'm going through something similar, but I know I can count on my friends, and I hope they are always there for me, because I will be there for them. Every person is good in their own way, I'm really disgusting at school, I'm more of drawing, music and that kind of thing, but I have to study at an Industrial school, which is the opposite of me, obviously It is fatal and my family does not understand knowing what my source is, I no longer have the opportunity to change that, so I am just waiting for the day when my school ends so I can study what I really like and free myself once and for all. the people who do not trust me, I am the least indicated person to say that you think positive, because I am the negativity in life xD, but, you always have to look forward, and wait for the right person to arrive that you can trust
@@starshot5172 nah, learning by yourself is way more fulfilling and fun. If you learn a song that was Reccomended by a teacher instead of by your own will you wont have as much motivation. It would be just like school.
Omg this was me when I was trying to learn it it took me 3 months though. I needed serious help back then Edit: I'm 3 years late for this comment sorry I really suck t this
