This video is so well done! I’m going through this right now, as I’ve recently started learning to throw a hook. This is the best breakdown and explanation I’ve found! Thank you for the time you’ve invested into this amazing video.

When I graduated from no-step to one-step drills, I had a similar challenge. I'd either fall off the shot or my old swing & release would come back, because I was switching gears in my head and focusing on timing instead of putting timing & release together. I'm much improved now after a few months of repetition. Nice to see it working for you, too.

Awesome. Great to hear! 👋🏻 Being able to switch gears is important. Sometimes we'll idle on one thing but then realize wait, I also need to be thinking of that other thing too then you really start to get things moving. Keep it up! 🕺🏻

Try to open your hips out like Anthony Neuer to allow you more time at the flat plane of your swing and also increase leverage at the release. Don't worry about the awkward looking side stepping. it will come around once you open up your hips.
@bowlersoup

This! I actually worked on that this week 🤯 I know exactly what you mean about that side step 😅

So first off, your videos played a bigger role in helping me understand this release. Ive tried all the drills, and yesterday I kind of just lost it and finally just decided to go for it. I finally had a few dozen successful releases for the first time. Question, Im still in the early stages of learning this, but one thing I noticed when I did it right, my hand at the finish was like a crab claw. In my head my hand would finish palm up, fingers kind of splayed open. But instead my hand finishes pointing forward, thumb kind of pressed into my palm, and my fingers scrunched up one one another. Did you ever exp this?
@bowlersoup
@bowlersoup 4 месяца назад
Hmm. Not too sure 🤔 If I were to take a guess, it might be related to bowling ball fit and the thumbhole being too big which would cause you to subconsciously squeeze with your thumb to hold onto the ball which is how I think that would cause your thumb to come into your palm. If so, and if I understood correctly, you can try putting one piece of bowler's tape inside your thumbhole to make it more snug🫡

I’m a 183 average bowler , who just started trying this yo yo release, I ended up getting more Revs but injured my wrist . I’m sure I was using wrong form , I was lifting my elbow and doing a pushing motion … is there a way you can explain the yo-yo or show a different angle.? Good luck on your journey .. I’m sure I was doing something wrong . This my first time feeling pain from bowling in bicep and wrist
@bowlersoup
@bowlersoup 4 месяца назад
You’ve probably heard about trying to get under the equator of bowling ball. Well, by using that elbow bend and forearm, it will help you get under the ball on your downswing! Also, you’ll develop that strength and technique over time. Take it easy! 👋🏻
@ender9094
@ender9094 4 месяца назад
The way I've heard it explained is to stop the upper part of your arm near the bottom of your swing that naturally causes your elbow and wrist to bend and get under the ball with little to no effort, and then unless. Let momentum and gravity do the work for you to bend the elbow and cup the wrist instead of muscling it up with your wrist and forearm. Easier said than done, but that's the general idea.
@ps5mane
@ps5mane 4 месяца назад
@@ender9094 I was definitely muscling the ball … 😅 , I’m still trying to figure it out

How about your drilling? Have you had to change anything as in pitches or span? Im struggling with a lot im getting there but i do think maybe learning about my hand and how it should sit and or feel in the ball would help me even more. What if the drillings are wrong? Or what if there are better ways for fit. Is that silly? Another thing is. Seeing!! What is my ball doing what i need to do to help it. Where to move when shoukd i move whek i move what do i look at. Again i havent been bowling lomg at all, i learn everyday im fixated on bowling and wanting to be better. My full self is in it i have all the time to do that. Thankfully but too much is bad i need to walk away and take a break.
@bowlersoup
@bowlersoup 4 месяца назад
Definitely not silly! It takes some time to find that overall feel; there's a lot of trial and error involved. My best tip would be to take everything 1 step at a time (literally). You got this! 👋🏻
@StephRenee812
@StephRenee812 4 месяца назад
Yes the approach I can't for the life of me get the trail leg to do that. I tend to drag behind me it stops me. Like pull thru, toe drags forward .. Idk how to break the habit from pitching softball my whole life slingshot.
@bowlersoup
@bowlersoup 4 месяца назад
That's a tough one! Since that toe drag is kinda muscled memoried into you, trying the no step/foul line drill could help you get your mind to visualize the new location of where you want your leg to be. Just being in that new position, that could help you gradually factory reset that muscle memory! 🕺🏻

Thank you! 💪🏻 Definitely. I've had days where I felt like I accomplished nothing after practice. I also like to write things down or take notes on my phone to help provide a guideline of what I want to do that day. As briefly mentioned in the video, I also like to summarize how practice went, what felt right, what felt wrong etc. ✍🏻 Cheers!

@@billylusk3515 The thumb makes a clear exit like you’re trying to flick it out then when it clears you have your fingers left still in the ball. Thumb out, then fingers Thumb out, then fingers Overtime, you are able to perform that action faster and then incorporate forearm and elbow bend 💪🏻
