In this visit I get back on the case with practicing and learning backside airs on vert. This is an ongoing process that I’m tweaking as I go. www.jonbishopguitar.com
Another great vid sir ! , as a 40 year old skater I’m feeling your pain with the tight muscles lol. Keep it up man ! Can’t wait till the Canadian winter gets outa here so I can get back out to the local bowl…
My first time pumping (or even seeing) a vert ramp today at Skaterham this evening. This was certainly inspirational watching you do this after I got back home (I'm 41). Keep up with the great work. Great content. :)
Yes mate! You’ve got them looking really sweet. It’s so bloody hard to make it happen when you actually hit the vert , below the vert is fair enough but on it is such a different game. Grinds are looking great too. Great progress 👊🏼
Thanks dude, yeah the vert take off feels different! I tried again the other day, it’s gonna be one of those that takes ages, like the axle stall only more terrifying 😂
@@JonBishopSkate your making great inroads. I feel like I just gotta bite the bullet and blast with enormous speed straight up at the coping with no turn at all to learn the launch 🚀 and grab then stage 2 will be turning around and spotting the landing. Below the coping feels like you gotta yank it up and above you gotta just launch yourselves without so much of a yank.
The video was another clinker Jon , well impressed with your improving ! Massage gun and more yoga going to pay you back big time . Thought Adam was sending it , real nice style but !
I'm 51 and just started skating (other than for transportation as a kid) at 47. I LOVE your videos, and your stoke. I'm working on frontside early grab airs, but I'm not yet above the coping. What I like most about your videos is that I can relate to what you're doing. Watching pros skate is sort of like watching a whole different sport. I feel like there's a lot of us in my situation, and you should probably have your own pro model board. Keep it up!
Hey Dude Many thanks for checking in. Yeah I did a bit of teaching at a post 16 music college. I also have coaching awards in surfing, windsurfing and sailing. I recon it helps to think out the methodology, but sometimes there are also draw backs to overthinking. I think with this one it is a simple two pronged premise of speed/power and commitment/bravery. Power/timing to get out the top and bravery not to bail.
Great work. I'm rolling on my board again after 10 years so I can skate with my kids who are showing an interest aged 4 + 2. This has inspired me to push myself a bit harder. Can still do boardslides and kicklips at 39 without too much effort so hopefully I'll be OK ! Would love to know where this skatepark is.
Yeah dude, got to man up, I really, really want it, but when I get to ramp I realise I don’t quite want it enough 😂 It’s a process I’ve been through with the frontside grind which took me about 3 months. If I can get all four wheels definitively above the coping before my birthday in April I’ll be chuffed !!
I tried BS air in a big bowl at a skatepark. Landed a few mid way up the ramp and got hyped and tried a little higher. I landed with my back foot off the board and my front foot shot out still on the board. I was able to slide it down the ramp but when I hit the waterfall I fell back and hyper extended my knee tearing my MCL. I'm a little scared to try them again. I guess I gotta be 100% on the landing or pull the board out and slide. There didn't seem to be anyway out of the one foot on leg splitter.
Crikey! Yeah it’s pretty scary, I think I managed most of the permutations of messing it up in my video learning them in the bowl ??! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bu1BYDNh53k.html
Great stuff, I'm a novice compared to you, if you done it on a smaller pipe you get more air? Nail that then work your way up? I havent been to a skate park yet so is that possible or it diesnt work like that. Cheers
Jon, can you get 'out' backside of a smaller ramp? Like clear the coping significantly with backside air? Wondering if that extra step will push you out of a bigger/vert ramp?
Yeah dude, great idea. Thanks. I can get out of the 7ft end of the bowl, it’s not vert thought and I like clearing the coping over the hips etc. I was thinking of trying on a smaller vert ramp, the idea being I’m basically doing a 13ft air here, so on a 12ft vert ramp I’ll be a foot out, but I can’t imagine it works like that 😂
Jon you're skating too much with weight on toeside. Try to be more above the board so you can see better below you and keep board control. While you're too in front the board keep flying off. Watch skate Iq mitchie brusco he has good reels about bs airs and that balance issues in general. That helped me. 😊
