Let's try something new today! This is my first time using Arches paper, and I decided to paint a snow leopard to practice painting colour variations in grey and white animals. Almost immediately I picked up on a noticeable trait of this paper, which I discuss in the video. I tried to keep the palette somewhat in view (given my available desk space lol) so you can see some of the colour mixing and which paints I am reaching for. For the most part I was using ultramarine, phthalo blue GS, brown red, and yellow ochre to mix up a variety of warm and cool variations in colour temperature. Thank you Lana 💜 I'm currently testing out using colour pencils for the lineart as well as hatching, then adding washes of watercolour. I'll share some of the results eventually!

Beautiful leopard, I really like the textures you created! I loved seeing how you evolved to the paper as it went on with how much water you used. I need to practice patience with letting watercolour fully dry to create layers. More sketch with me sessions would be nice, and animal gestures sounds perfect.

This is making me want to set up a smaller palette :3 Honestly I don't like Arches because of how thirsty and textured it is. My preference is Langton Prestige Rough or cold pressed.

It's such a dramatic paper to work with! I've never known anything this thirsty haha. Have fun setting up a smaller palette if you feel called to!
