Learning To SEW- AN EASY SEWING GUIDE! 

Hi, Diana! Ellie and Mac has a special place in my heart. When I bought my sewing machine during the COVID lockdown, I realized I didn’t have any patterns to sew. I had not idea that PDF patterns were a thing but I decided to search printable patterns anyway. Much to my surprise there were several sites that came up. I clicked on Ellie and Mac, printed and sewed my very first garment - the Off Shoulder Romper! I’ve since purchased pretty much every E&M pattern and have seen all of your videos. ❤️

I work with both sewing patterns on pattern paper and pdf patterns. I love pdf patterns the most. However I get the most sales on my etsy shop from clothes that come from regular patterns from simplicity. Great advice about pdf patterns. I print mine on stock paper for a more sturdy pattern.

Good to show and provide tutorials on how to use the Ellie and Mac's patterns as with any commercial type of patterns instructions on how to put a garment together can be very daunting to a newbie. Just trying to understand the terms etc and that all comes with experience learning from mistakes etc. I started sewing when in junior school we called that primary school here in Australia. Just learning to hand sew and doing embroidery when I started. My Mum had a treadle machine and had it converted with a motor so I used to watch her making dresses and doing alterations etc and was interested but not enough to do any myself. I always had a new dress to wear to school and felt very proud too. So until I got married Mum gave me my first machine but must admit did not do too much with at first, so she used it and first few years my husband and I did a trip around Australia and then overseas. So when we came back then I got the machine back and started make a few things like when expecting made things for the baby room. Over time as the years went by did lots of courses and workshops on how to use a sewing machine etc and by then had bought a better sewing machine and serger (overlocker) and you just could not stop me from sewing especially when I learnt to do stretch knit sewing. I was making so many things for my 2 boys and was addicted to sewing but I loved it. Yes and do agree its good for when you are stressed as it seems to calm me like knitting or crocheting and any other type of craft. Thanks for sharing!

This is great! I love Ellie & Mac. About 2 years ago I found one of your videos showing us step by step how to sew a pattern i was hooked. Finally!! Trying to understand regular pattern instructions isnt easy, but watching it via video and doing a sew along is much better for me. I also love the PDF versions, so i can print out whatever size i need and the blog on the site...

I have just started with pdf patterns but not printing them out, using a projector. This is all thanks to you and Ellie and Mac!! I didn’t know about their wonderful patterns until I watched your tutorials. I think what turns people off of pdf patterns is the fact that you have to print everything out, that was me. But using a projector is a total game changer.

I love the Ellie and Mac patterns, but I am having trouble finding fabric. Where do you buy stylish, affordable knit fabric on line?

I don't have a serger, just a regular sewing machine. I'd like to make a simple A dress, should I start with stretchy knits? or what would you recommend?
