LEARNING TO SNOWBOARD at Thredbo, Australia's Highest Mountain!

We embraced the cold and headed to Thredbo in Mount Kosciuszko. We all strapped on snowboards this time and, after a brief lesson for mom and dad, we all went to the top of the mountain where we fueled up on hot chocolate at the Eagle's Nest, Australia's Highest Restaurant. After several very frustrating hours trying to master the Basin T-Bar (which would have been so much easier on skiis for us first-timers), we made our way down the Village Trail with plenty of falls and bruises to show for it. The shared fun and frustration, along with the sense of accomplishment at the bottom, made this one of our best trips!

I think Australia is so lucky to have more snow than Switzerland most Winters, yet we don’t have to live in snow as it only falls on the Mountain ranges.

I went down there a couple weeks ago, the day after a big snow fall. Mistakes were made for not bringing my snow chains with me from Canberra haha. Although we have experienced some very cold mornings especially today (30th July), was not too much cooler in Thredbo.

Been a while since I've gone skiing at Thredbo. Great place and great atmosphere, though "ski season" prices for everything are something which can take your breath away the first time. But hey, it's only money - no point in dying with it! 😀

Kosciuszko is Australia’s highest hill. Thredbo is nearby, sort of.

Perisher Blue is a lot prettier than Thredbo if u catch the train to the Blue Cow Summit and Guthega area. Thredbo is only good for the highest lifted point.

I think Thredbo is much prettier than perisher and Thredbo village is so awesome lots of restaurants and things to do.

@@damianmcwilliams2371 The only pretty lookout at Thredbo is the highest lifted point where the bell is. But even then the surrounding scenery is not snowcapped mountains or deep valleys. Just a couple of nearby hills. In Perisher, the main ski area at the entrance is plain and ugly but deeper into the resort it is spectacular especially on a blue sky day with summits overlooking deep valleys and surrounded by mountains covered in snow. The trees also look like sculptures from Beetlejuice. But Thredbo does have access to the Mount Kosciuszko summit but thats a long walk to get there with no ski lifts.

@@Jaibee27 the top of Thredbo to the village is over 600 MTR drop into the valley, perisher top to village is barely 300 MTRS so it is much more spectacular and dramatic and from the top of Thredbo you can see to the mountains across to Victoria .From the top of Thredbo you ski above the tree line then as you go further down the the longest ski runs in Australia for 6kms you pass through snow gums and by the time you reach the village you ski through magnificent tall gum trees sheltered from the weather.

@@damianmcwilliams2371 yeh but at Perisher you can see beyond the village. You are referring to Perisher Mountain and not Blue Cow Mountain or Guthega Mountain which is part of Perisher. I like Thredbo for its long run and I do like the view from the highest lifted point. But if you showed the scenery to any international skiier who has been to New Zealand, Japan, France, Switzerland, Canada, etc. they are not likely to think of it as one of the most beautiful ski resorts in the world. But at Perisher, from the Blue Cow Summit or at Guthega, it does have an aesthetic quality to it similar to the mountains in New Zealand. It is difficult to find images online even if you google it. But I cant argue on what is beautiful as everyone has different taste so maybe you are right.

@@Jaibee27 I have never heard anyone say perisher is more beautiful than Thredbo and I have friends from Canada and Europe who have stayed at Thredbo with me and skied at perisher blue and thought Thredbo with its awesome European village and harder runs made perisher seem a bit boring.
