Same. Dont quote me on this but I believe there were a couple studies on animal sentience, that is, if they are capable of abstract thinking and communicating to or near the level humans do. I believe there was one done on apes. The issue was that the researchers felt that they couldnt be certain that the answer was yes because in their study, the apes never really questioned anything, and it seems that the apes didnt even consider that humans may not know everything. I really want to see more studies being done because I think many animals are smarter than they appear to be. Perhaps some are capable of thinking philosophically and we dont know yet.
Bunny once asked: "Why do you love me?" to which she replied "Because we are friends." Bunny the asked "What is love?" These is something profound in the fact they can discuss abstract concepts such as love and friendship.
@@hightowergaming5301 I saw the video that you're talking about. It is amazing, and almost kind of moving in a way when she asked her owner why she loved her....
how is it asking questions? the "what" button could have any other soundeffect on and could have any meaning to the dog, the owners give certain buttons their personal meaning and it's on them to interpret the dogs actions. The dog could think whatever about any of the buttons. It can't press the "go outside" button sarcastically or symbolically. It can't use the soundeffects to describe something completely different than the responses it has been taught. there is no meaning. I doubt you could even rearrange the buttons. I mean there are words like "friends" or "love" on it, now let's be serious. The dog is just performing tricks and not using language, no matter how cute.
All these new videos of dogs and cats learning to use buttons has really changed how I think of their sentience. I already knew they were thinking, caring creatures, but I guess I always thought they lived in the moment through feelings. I never quite considered just how thoughtful they could be.
The gorilla telling handlers the story of losing his mom to poachers through sign language is another one of those eye openers. Dogs and gorilla's are on different levels when it comes to sentience, but still.
I love your honesty, your skepticism, the fact it could be our ego. Also I love what you said that they’re not learning a new language but that they’ve been saying it all along.
I think "go outside" "treat" and "toy" are the best ones... The others come with mystery, ego, luck and your own creativity. It just "seems" like they are communicating...
I’ve been thinking of doing this for awhile but with simple phrases for the pup to say like gotta potty and such. I never expected they would be so good at figuring so much out. This is really fascinating
@@mspaint93 animals have no sense of right and wrong a lion rips the neck offa gazelle just like wolves rip deer apart dogs and cats understand this much better than us
@@mrmangotahiti In the best way possible, yes! Only humans have the ability to code right from wrong. Other species only wish to survive, and cant do wrong by nature. I might not choose to eat meat myself by my own personal values, but my kitty isnt an omnivore and I'd be abusive if I didnt feed her good meat. In a sense, its beautiful that I havent consumed meat for years, but will still purchase beef chunks for my animal, because she needs it. Recognizing that animals live by their nature, and I'll cater to them so such.
I can tell you, owning dogs that YES they've been saying it all along. My dog tells me when he's due everything in his routine, sometimes when I forget. He tells me what he wants, what he doesn't. He's very determined. He's smart, sweet & adorable. He's a Yorkie 🥰
What a perfectly sane and reasonable overview of the experience and relationship. I am going to be bringing home two heelers in the next year and plan to incorporate this into our world. I really appreciate Alexis' perspective.
I'm very intrigued now. I may invest in some buttons just to see how well my dog and I can communicate. She already understands me, and with a routine, I understand her but this raises the bar and certainly seems to deepen the bond. Neat stuff!
I love when she said it as it is about how she’s a hopeful skeptic and that if it’s what it is. It just shows that she actually knows what she’s doing and what’s going on.
I think alot of people love this idea of communication with their pets, but probably don't realise how time consuming this is. Imagine raising a child, that's essentially what your doing but with a friend. You would have to train the dog to be diligent and obedient, you would have to care religiously about your animal. I hope no one saw this and thought wow this is going to be a fun little toy I can use with my dog.
I don't think anyone appreciated how smart a dog really can be or just how deeply they love and care for us until we gave them the opportunity to speak to us in a way we can most easily understand. Dogs look to us for comfort just as we look to them, they love us more than anything else in this world, and being able to talk with them is in many respects the greatest gift we have ever given ourselves. Please, treasure your dogs as they treasure you, it is a joy like no other. Damn, I miss my dogs so much, I've lost plenty of human family but somehow losing a dog weighs most heavily with very few exceptions. Why must the universe be so cruel and take away dogs so soon? 😢
As a life-long animal lover, a dog trainer with 3 decades of experience, and a former veterinary technician, I absolutely love the idea of this. I only wish we could see a video without so many cuts, stops and starts, and edits.
I also became fascinated and read some articles that suggest the dog may not actually understand the words, only that a button = some response. And that they may subconsciously influencing the dogs behavior and editing out the parts where the dog fails
@@drdream123 I'm not sure what's the problem with that. We make mistakes too and we edit them out. Pets make mistakes and we use that to hate and start debating? Really? Come on. Even if they do, it must help them with their lives somehow, pretty cool, isn't it?
Yes, wonderful point: animals talk all the time and did so as long as we do - only use other language means as we do. The use of buttons are an extraordinary idea!
I have a Blue Heeler. She’s so energetic, she loves to run around and go from one place to another that I don’t think a stationary communication device would work for her. She and I communicate though body language and of course, vocally. She’s a cattle dog and they’re always watching their human and are fast at learning from our physical and vocal cues. 🥰
I’ve always tried to “listen” to my pets behaviors and forum a vocabulary they’re familiar with. I love all animals, even the ones that might kill me. They all have a purpose. ♥️
We have not been listening! They were always communicating but humans think that we are on top and every other living thing is at the bottom yet let’s look at the tiny COVID virus and the terror it has created. Awesome work she is doing in bringing more awareness 🤩🥰🙏
My dog sits herself in front of me, stares at me and starts whining, then I have to go through a word list such as out, food, cuddle, bed etc, and when I hit the correct word she reacts runs off turning her head for me to follow. I think I will need to buy some of these dog buttons for her.
Isn't she though? Her black & white markings are so adorable and she is just a pure and delicate soul. I think Otter is cute, too, but Bunny is simply personality plus... So charming.
"We haven't been listening." That's so true - countless dogs are frustrated because their owners just don't get what they're communicating. They understand us and probably think we're real dumb animals!
I've noticed that all the animals I have ever had, and presently have communicate very well using body motions, facial expressions and unique vocal expressions. But I do find this technique very interesting.
I have been using buttons I got off Amazon and when I saw what this person was using I checked them out. Expensive!!! Cute colors but damn, I’ll stick to my diy ones.
For Halloween we got some extra buttons that said "I want to murder you", and "You will die tonight". Our dog ended up freaking us all out by selecting these buttons !
This is incredibly scientific and not at all edited, and didn't require any hopeful inferences to be made by the owner at all, the dog was generally just curious about the barge on the water and wanted to chat about it, come on people.
I taught my dog how to choose between my two hands. Yes or no. and also are you a good boy or a bad boy. (since he already knows the context of the two based on his dicipline and rewards.) He always chooses good boy. But the first time he chose bad boy was when he got in trouble for something. He was reprimanded and was doing the classic "guilty dog" look. He was asked and he chose bad boy. I already knew dogs were intelligent and aware, but that really shocked me, and honestly kind of freaked me out lol. I now I ask the question alot, and he chooses bad when he knows I am upset at him for something. I just started transitioning to buttons and he's using the "treat" and "yes" button often lol. Dogs are truly sentient, intelligent creatures who are so connected to us, even through our forms of communication now.
@@sophiabright8371 - It’s beautiful but the quality of life here has really taken a dive. Lots if homelessness and crime. Rents and home prices are sky high. Lots of people here want to leave...
"I would love for the greatest takeaway to be not that our dogs can talk, but that they've already been saying it all along and we just haven't been listening."
Plot twist, the cute dog has started training the lady to speak in the dog's language. She now hast 23 buttons to convey to the dog her feelings in his language. One button that is missing is the "NO!" button.
Read the brain signals given off when Bunny thinks about each word to press, and then you could make a device that reads bunny's thoughts and says the words without needing buttons.
@@zappy2000 Maybe haha. It might be possible with an external EEG. So it wouldn't be harmful. But I'm currently too sleep deprived to think about neuroscience. Goodnight friendo :)
Basic dog training if you had a button that said food and every time the dog pressed it they where given food of corse they will press it every time they need food this is basic dog training, another button for a walk then they will press to go for a walk if that’s what you associate the bottom with
Dog Using Mat: "Something...Something...Near...Stairs...You...Can't...See...But...Always...Something...Near...Stairs..." Me: =Throws button mat into the trash!= "We're moving!"
well that’s it i think, they have been talking all along. Water buffalo rescues turtle, Beluga whale notices girl looses phone overboard and swims down and retrieves it returning to the person who dropped it. Dog gets in way of car and won’t move until driver gets and and dog leads driver to endangered cat. It’s more of consciousness sharing then talk. Humans seems to only use it in dreams if and only if they pay attention to their dreams. Dreams can communicate messages, you need to learn the picture meaning of the symbols, the more you practice the more relative the symbology of the symbols and confirmation communication exist. with whom you might think, well, those who are no longer in physical body.
Our Doberman showed me my Xbox powerbox light by her crate was keeping her up by pointing her nose and my Xbox controller light, whimpered, then pointed her nose at the power box, whimpered, then to her crate where there was a gap in the blankets and light bled through. My Pitbull (a rescue) saw me throwing her "land mines" into the woods and started "dumping her packages" along the treeline so I didn't have to walk back and forth.
Dogs had the ability to understand our speech for a long time. Probably longer than we realize. It's just they don't have the vocals to be able to replicate our sounds. So I really love the idea of these buttons, and wish I had them when I had my dog. I wonder what stuff you have on all those buttons. There so many of them.
