My idea is that the darkness was created by a abandoned cartoon character or many of them because of his/her hatred against those who made it big deciding to end it all by destroying everything and everyone... Maybe even gaining enough strength to break through the fourth wall.

I personally have a theory on what the Glitch is (Kinda late by a couple days but eh-) Basically, I personally imagine that the Glitch in the meta aspect when you take it out of it's eldritch horror is less an allegory on the internet or fandoms but more so executive overreach. How the owners of these companies often enforce more and more control onto the shows that are successful, often completely bastardizing the purpose of the show as envisioned by it's creators. The infected themselves could represent the characters that ultimately get flanderized to the point that they're no where near who they used to be. As for the internet slang? I don't know whether or not that'll remain to be canon given how some details like Alloy Boy's name being 'Beta Kid' in the concept documents for example.
