My view is that waiting for your next video is stressful because it combines two difficult states: not knowing what's coming on the video and not being able to do anything about it. I wait patiently, try to occupy my time by answering emails, reading a magazine, putting on music, or playing a game on my phone. When I am getting anxious or impatient, I take a few slow, deep breaths to stay calm. I focus on the positive that your next video will be here soon to make the wait more comfortable. Valium helps also. Please take care of each other.

Rede Espressos and Flixbus are both fantastic. This summer we travelled from Tavira to Guimarães, stopping off at Lisbon, Coimbra, Bragança and Amarante along the way. Most of the journeys were less than 10 euros and several were just 5 euros!

You cannot rely on the Rede Expresso €5 price as if you go with your family, I mean 5 kids you dont find 7 seats for the price of €5 each. You end up to pay more. The €5 seat is good if you are single or if you are with someone but not for a family. So, the advertised price is just an illusion at Rede Expresso.

Thanks Jen. That was a fun trip. I do like the drive down to the Algarve. You should be fine with public transport. There's plenty of buses from Lisbon up to Caldas and a few less options to Peniche if i remember. I like the fact that from Lisbon airport it is so easy to get to Oriente bus station by metro and from there you can get buses all over Portugal. 😄 - Lee

Just done a trip Lagos, Lisbon , Óbidos, Lisbon, Faro by bus with a friend and thanks to you two, managed to book a few of the €5 tickets. Wouldn't have known they existed otherwise. And no, Mandy, we didn't walk the walls in Óbidos either . My friend has limited vision so no way was I taking her up there. Only had one day in Faro so went to Ilha Deserta by ferry and speedboat back . Fantastic trip and memories but maybe slightly more than you would have paid. Time is money 😂. Next time you´re in the area of Bombarral you might want to take a look at Bacalhoa Buddha Eden, a very relaxing experience. Keep on doing what you do, it's invaluable. xx

Good advice as usual. we too sometimes do a dry run before taking a bus that does not seem to have a bus stop. Toilets Oh dear! Is there a charge to use the toilet in Oriente or Sete Rios?Love the sculptures. Another good tutorial on using James Bond's elevator!
@FrugalTravellers

Hello Christine! A dry run is so advisable if you have the time and energy... and we're so pleased that we checked out this Flixbus stop in Faro! The toilets at Oriente are free, which is yet another reason why it's one of my favourite stations 😁 Sete Rios is €0.50, and the Lidl in the train station is one of the only supermarkets we've seen without a toilet! I really love the glass panels and futuristic lifts at Oriente - such a great experience! ~ Mandy 😁😀

Hello Team MandyLee, thanks for the video. Forum Shopping Centre (as mentioned previously) is 650m away from that FlixBus stop. FlixBus has to operate there as they cannot go to the Faro's bus station (Eva), its a bit like Ryanair flying to Beauvais in France, despite calling it "Paris", anything to reduce costs! That soup you had is "Canja de galinha", it might not seem fancy and yet, there is nothing better when we're sick (unless if not make it properly) I really loved that circular lift, it looks like a tube suckling oneself from a extraterrestrial spaceship! You guys have a fun week 😎

Hi Sergio, Yes we saw the shopping centre went we went down for a recce. Great to know it is there. The bus stop is nicely hidden away there 😂 So glad that we went and sussed it out in advance. No doubt it reduces costs for them. It's the same in Albufeira, it stops on the edge of town there too. That soup was delicious and a bargain at that price. I'd eat it anyday.😁 We do love playing on those lifts. That's exactly what i thought - Space age! Good old Oriente! Have a great week.

Olá M&L-You’re both very courageous. Last year we were going from Tavira to Lisbon. Bus had more travel options than train. However, we were also a bit concerned with the location of the Flixbus bus stop in Faro. As you did Lee, we also checked Streetview and Flixbus stop in Faro didn’t appear right to us so we opted for Mundial Turismo instead for a direct bus from Tavira to Lisbon-no changes and only one stop at the Faro bus station. The value was similar to Flixbus but the Mundial Turismo option gave us a little more comfort and direct service to Oriente. This year we travelled quite a bit using buses in PT but noticed on-board bathrooms all appeared to be locked. Not sure why. 🤷 🚌 Looking forward to your upcoming videos. Cheers. 👍🏻
@FrugalTravellers
@FrugalTravellers 2 года назад
You made a good choice there. The Faro station is far more convenient if you are close to the centre of town. We were staying in the north anyway so the walking distance was about the same for both bus options. We chose Flixbus just because the cheap one left at a convenient time in the morning for us. It all worked out ok in the end. A lot of the bus companies closed off their onboard toilets during Covid for safety reasons and it took some of them a long time to reopen them. We've taken some recently and are pleased to confirm that they are using them again now! 👍🏻

Great video guys. I just checked Flix bus pet policy, they don’t accept pets, not even a small quiet dog in a carrier. If one has a service dog, then a passenger has to book way in advance to make sure the driver doesn’t have allergies. 😂 LOL. Very disappointed since one can take small dogs into the cabin of an airplane and there is no selection of airplanes to see if the captain has allergies. I wish Portugal was more dog/pet friendly for transportation and restaurants. I know this doesn’t apply to you, but I wanted to mention it.

At any rate, your recent videos are death by bus rides. LOL. I respect your coverage of bus fares and rides but you have to get out of the sand box. If you wish to reach 1 million viewers perhaps you should expand your horizons on other subjects and limit the bus rides. From an outsider looking in, you both have the knowledge, experience, loyalty, commitment and great stage presence to reach that 1 million viewer; however expand the subject matter. @@FrugalTravellers Dear Mandy and Lee. Even people with lots of money are frugal, that's why most have money because they are frugal. Warren Buffet is one of the most frugal billionaires. Despite having a net worth of 109.1 billion US dollars, he is still living in a house which he bought in 1958 for a total of 31,500 Dollars. Moreover, he has used a flip phone for more than 50 years. Frugality is not restricted to backpackers. Iorder for you to expand, just take baby steps outside the backpacking world so you can reach a larger target audience. Ideally, you have to kick up your channel a notch making it more appealing thereby attracting more viewers. You have to focus on making videos that make your new viewers happy. Also, you must have a marketing strategy. I noticed that you have returning fans but very rarely new fans. That should be your aim and objective is to reach out to unknown target audience and not your present and past audience. Keep your ideas fresh, perhaps have a live question and answer session. You have promised a Q & A session for quite come time now but you are procrastinating, don't keep your audience waiting and in suspense. Perhaps you can have guests on your Channel, add a little flavour on their experiences. When not house setting, explore guest houses and private rooms, give them exposure as opposed to hostels, this will reach another audience. When you were in Faro, eventhough you didn't rent a car, you could have highlighted car rental agencies and their rates other than the high end rental agencies; namely, Happy Car rental, Discover cars etc. You always have lunch at Pingo Doce, you should have lunch at Continente and/or Intermarche, the competition. Explore the air travel options, discount airlines, mountain biking in Portugal etc. etc. You have to get outside of the major city tourist traps, do videos on Castelo de Vide, Monsaraz, Viana do Castelo as examples focus on the local people. Show eastern Portugal near Elvas and highlight that there's a large discount supermarket, Carrfour just across the Spanish border in Badajoz. Your biggest tool available is email and it's free. Send a couple of hundred emails to businesses advising them that you have a RU-vid Channel and you will feature them and that you are looking for sponsorship. This is not all inclusive nor exhaustive, you know what has to be done but it will take some ingenuity and you have to break down the barriers of backpacking and slowly precede forward. Continuously revise your plan. Don't be afraid, you have to market yourself, the only thing they can say is no. I'm sure you have explored some of these options, I wish you luck and take my comments for what it is worth. Please take care of each other.

Additionally, it was nice to see your face and name on Rede Bus, it would be great if you could approach TAP Portugal and have you poster smeared all over North America and Europe airports at the departure lounges. Now that would be exposure and a million viewers instantly. Try even Easyjet, Ryanair or Azores Airlines and they fly from major cities in North America.
