I like your traveling videos. My Husband and I travelled most of Canada and the US in a van. Always happy we were self sufficient most of the time. No icky w/rooms or sketchy looking food places. Love the natural beauty of our two countries!

If you build a wooden box that the food and water dish will fit snug in, then it wont tip as much. You can affix heavy duty nonslip stair tread to the bottom of the box, to keep the box from moving around. The kind that looks like very coarse sandpaper.

Yeah I love British/European TV. My teen+ years were during "British Invasion" of the 80s and we hung out on PBS since the late 60s for children's & nature programming and stayed for all of the fabulous mystery shows!

Those are my fave Rest stops. Especially with pets. I used to drive no more than 8 hrs daily with dogs. Always in road by 7am. We’d stop & stretch every 2 hours. Siesta mid day. Then off again. I don’t drive at night. There’s so much you miss if you stay on Interstate. Every couple days find a good hike. Don’t know how you do it. Stay safe.

Thanks for the video. I was just on the Arizona part of your video and stopped to let my pup get some walk time at the Meteor Crater rest stop today. We are just slowly making our way along beside Route 66 and trying to take in some of the highlights of the historic Mother Road. We will take about a week to go what you did on this video. watching u return east made me sad, i was almost in tears leaving arizona last november to go back to pa..me and my dog took i-40 too. got home and the vet told me she has cancer.. losing my desert dog, devastated.

@7:09 I keep my tiny dogs food and water in the same place.. It just so happens that my mat is the perfect texture to be 1/2 of a Velcro connection. Your mat looks similar. It does make picking up the water bowl a bit of an adventure.

Hi David and Lefty: Thanks for the ride. Familiar with that drive the whole way. I never drank coffee so I've never experienced all that stuff you coffee drinkers go through. I was also never bothered by all the hywy noise. I could sleep right next to a running semi all night. Have fun with your new V11.

Putting in miles when tired or a bit off your game, isn't fun. Thursday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, I covered 2700 miles getting back home for a doc appointment on Monday morning. I should have allowed 4 or 5 days, but managed to grind it out in 3 days as planned, to let me get in the most hiking in NV after leaving AZ. After a family eclipse expedition in TX, I visited Dee in AZ for 4 days, including me getting 2 days of dental work done in Los Algodones, then 2 days of working on her rig. I spent 2 nights at a Plomosa Rd site, can see why you like it there! The place has largely cleared out. I'd say there was a rig every 100 yards or more. I'd bet you've ridden your GasGas past where I stayed. I left the road at a blue ball on a post. I also spent one night 16 miles into Kofa, while attempting to get 26 miles in to investigate a plane crash site. First time I've gotten the Prius Prime stuck, in a sandy wash, but I didn't bury it, and found that my big stainless steel frying pan makes a great shovel and a great grader. Took me almost an hour to get unstuck. Digging furiously a few hours after the dental work ended, while on orders from the dentist to do nothing strenuous for 48-72 hours. But it was getting dark, and I had no choice but to try getting unstuck, or sleep in the car blocking the almost-unused road. Another fun adventure was being stopped by Kansas troopers who thought I was bringing weed "or fentanyl" from Colorado. The pulled the BS line of "I observed your tire drifting onto the shoulder line" to stop me and "check that I wasn't impaired or falling asleep." When it was clear that I wasn't, the cop promised to just run my license and give me a verbal warning to stay more centered in my lane. But then his buddy the canine drug sniffing dog showed up to pull off the second part of the "Kansas two-step" that federal courts have found they use to conduct illegal searches. The dog circles the car, alerts probably on cue, and suddenly there are 4 cop cars and they are claiming probable cause to search my car without a warrant due to the dog alerting. Seemingly nice guys, but in fact scumbags pulling their traditional scam to do searches without real cause. And if they do this to an educated, docile white guy in a Prius packed full of camera gear, I wouldn't want to be in a car of young folks granted fewer privileges by society, with empty beer cans on the floor and a smell of pot. So one cop took me away from the car, while all 5 doors were opened and 3 or 4 cops rummaged through a car that was packed like a Tetris puzzle with all my eclipse/camera gear, hiking gear, camping gear, food, 50 liter freezer, bed there wasn't room to get into, backpacks, cooler bags, clothes, and a million other things. I was almost expecting them to plant drugs, but they didn't. After about 40 minutes total, they said "Looks like you're right, there's nothing. Bye." And they took off, leaving me roadside at the entrance of a closed weigh station, to repack the car. Driving out through the weigh station, I found that I was rolling down the road 65 pounds over the 4115 GVWR of the car. Pretty funny that they didn't think to make me drive onto the scale, to find a legit violation! Could have taken all my PowerAde and water bottles off me to get me down to legal weight. I guess it could have turned out worse, but I'll tell you that it sucks being profiled as a criminal and having your rights violated. I'd actually considered avoiding Kansas after all the horror stories about traffic stops there, on the Lehto's Law channel. But I thought "No cop ever stops an old guy in a Prius for anything but a legit moving violation." The usually don't even put down their donut if I go past them doing 15 over the limit. I think it was that they couldn't see through my rear car windows from one side to the other, due to the car being full. The first 2 cop cars in the trap, had their crazy-bright lights on, one on the right, one in the median. So they could see whether a car had windows blacked out of blocked by cargo. Anyway, I'm never driving through Kansas again, and recommend that nobody else does, either. Now that Colorado and Missouri both have legalized pot, they are on a mission to stop every out of state car and enforce their "zero tolerance" pot policy for some easy arrests/money. Luckily, I'm not into that, or anything else illegal, or they would have had me. I was going to spend the night at a rest area 8 miles after where they stopped me, but then I decided I would not sleep until out of the state. It turned it into I think a 951 mile driving day, though I have to finish piecing together all my gas receipts, etc before my stats are finalized. The road trip was a total of 7525 miles, so time for an oil change! Side note that the canine cop has seen a UFO, so he like that I said I'd been poking around the fringes of Area 51 on the trip!

We have a daily driving goal of 240miles/4hrs driving. If you haven’t stopped there yet, Uranus, Mo (actually in Robert, Mo) is actually a tourist trap, 22 miles west of Rolla, Mo. it’s an acttraction that is worth taking a break at. They will pack your fudge (if you buy some) and you can bite the owner’s weiner (if you buy one). We enjoyed our visit and placed our stivker on the sign pole.

Nope, Clines Corners had not changed one iota since I was a kid in the 1950's!!! I do not stop there. But theres a dairy in Tucumcari that used to sell cheese curds cheap. Not sure if they are still in business.

I tried googling about the cave. I did see that there are caves called the Red Rocks Caves that can be seen from I-40 in the area of the Arizona/New Mexico border. That's probably one of those caves.

Great trip update. I take a 6oz cup of 100% Tart Cherry juice before bed when I can’t sleep. I’m guaranteed at least 6 hours. Alternatively you can try Melatonin chews. I prefer the natural Tart Cherry melatonin myself and it tastes good.

Oh David, David... You need this here Cafe Bustelo Instant Espresso, it'll get you on the road in a hurry! Just as fast as you can boil water. Actually, I drink it iced, in a pint glass. Caution, caution! Danger, Will Robinson! Mad dog on the launch pad! Abort drone mission! Just another day on the road with Tin Tin and Snowy. I kind of like these, watching the other vehicles passing in the left lane, after months in Quartzsite. I noticed that other ambulance when you pulled into the stop -- thought you might wander over and chat with them. Was that the same one that passed you on the highway later?

Lucky sleeps well while driving, my dog sits beside me and looks out over the dash the entire time, never resting. And driven that road many times.

Geesh everybody. A few videos ago he mentioned seeing the eclipse in New York. I am sure he is hauling ass to get home for that. It’s worth the hard haul home. I saw it in Vermont after a four hour drive to Enosburgh Falls, saw an amazing eclipse then happily suffered the 10 hour ride home because Vermont roads were not built for that kind of traffic. I hope David and Lefty made it home for it. We will know soon enough. Great video, David! Walk in peace and pet that pup of yours from me!!

David, find a vitamin water that is the Orange flavor with energy. And keep one in the Rig during your travel days always on hand for the mornings you can not get a good coffee ! It will keep you alert, not jittery. Just Saying ! 🤪👍🤪

Just build a bowl holder out of some old scrap wood or get some 1" or 3/4 pine or something light. Just cut holes for the bowls to sit in. You can buy the rubber feet to screw in it so it wont slide on the floor.

Yeah sleep disruptions are the worst. I'm a bit of a night owl so I very easily get out of whack. Watching movies is a bit of a trap for me, if it's interesting enough to keep my mind active I don't doze off. I've found podcasts and music that I know well (like the beatles) is a much better option. Close your eyes and drift away.

Love the scenery and the drone David. I love gadgets too. My mom and I drove from Valparaiso, IN to Santa Barbara, CA in the early 1980's. What a trip. I did all the driving. Mom couldn't drive a stick. My neighbor hooked me up with AAA so I had those maps that folded out. No GPS back then no cell phones. I think the maps were called Triptik? I love watching your travels with Lefty. Does he get carsick? I'm in MN now almost 30 years. I'm a Midwestern gal but love New Yorkers. Love your sense of humor.

Since Google started merging Waze data into Google Maps it's become pretty good at rerouting around all sorts of traffic problems.

Just got home from CA, I stay at the same rest stops Dave, some in the same spots lol. Can't beat the price.

Idea for Lefty's food, and water bowls to keep them from spilling. Cut down a couple pieces of 2X6 Lumber if you have one kicking around, then take a piece of plywood, and cut 2 holes in it just big enough around to set each bowl in side by side, then either nail, or staple each small piece of 2X6 to the ends of the section of plywood to slightly elevate them up off the floor, place the bowls in, and fill them with the correct amount of food, and water. You could even box the bowls completely in with extra pieces of 2X6 to prevent your feet from being able to get under each bowl, and pop them out by accident. Cut the holes big enough to set the bowl in, but not be able to drop them all they way in so that they can't be removed for cleaning.

That one truckstop that you stopped in look huge I would’ve had a hard time finding my way out of there😂

Howdy Dave, boy Lefty was really carrying on when he seen you walking across that parking lot at the very beginning of the video. He was soooo happy to see you coming back to the truck. So I have a question about your Internet, and phone signal when you are in the back of your rig. Did you have to install some sort of external antenna on the outside of the box to be able to get a signal inside ? If so, are the Antennas expensive to buy, and hard to install ?
