Living abroad is an adventure, whether it's in Costa Rica or not. Living overseas can be either a good or bad experience. Expats live all over Costa Rica but the Central Valley is very popular with expat communities. Costa Rica is very accepting of other people, so being in a interracial marriage is really not an issue. Jason and Toosdai have done 4 expat interviews with michael alan of Travel Costa Rica NOW. Those videos are popular and Jason and Toosdai are well liked by the viewers. Why are they leaving Costa Rica?
I hope you ENjoYed this last video with expats, Jason and Toosdai, 'Leaving Costa Rica Their 'Likes and Dislikes' About Costa Rica Life LAST VIDEO' and hope to see you on my relocation tour very soon. ;) From all of us at Travel Costa Rica NOW- Pura Vida.

In Tamarindo area we only had one blackout from rainstorm in all of 8 months. Electric outages not an issue.

Going back to the US It's more problem than having to pay your bills or power off.... I lived in TX and we have lost power so so so many times and one time like 3 weeks. And now the shooting and hate and anger of people in the US good luck for you guys. I dream is one day to live in Costa Rica.

These series over time videos are the most helpful in my opinion. Unless you are just that crafty to stage these interviews they relate to people that are easy to identify with.

No country is a perfect fit for everyone. I don't criticize anyone that leaves one country, or another. It's all about personal preference, and personal situation. Where you live has to be a fit for you, and your life!! Good luck to you both!!😃👍 Definately have to keep an eye on the people that come for any repairs, because I've found more than a few shady repairs. People here protect their own property, rather than relying on others doing it for them. I kinda like that, personally,

So when you're renting a property and the owner does not want to fix things timely do they still expect to be paid their rent on time?

I think the customer service thing is slightly to do with being a gringo. So many gringo's don't speak Spanish, and even if the assistant can speak English I understand the slight resentment at having to speak English in a Spanish speaking country. If people expected English or American people to speak French or Spanish in the US or UK they would get no service at all. When I've been places with locals the service seems to be much more attentive and friendly.

Thanks guys. I have to say MY experience has been good with customer service in most places we go is awesome EXCEPT WALMART. I was just saying to my family that we are treated better here in CR than USA. OUR first 2 landlord s were. Nightmares 😳!! Our 3rd place now in Heredia San Rafael is AWESOME. No power outage yet , in Guanacaste where we lived in Beach town we had no electricity more than having it, NO WATER every other day would be no water all day. Electric always going out and landlord expected US to pay for repairs for anything that didn't work when we moved in. Gringo rent payment also. So happy to be in the mountains now where we have none of those issues. Have a safe trip back to States. Blessings. We are here for the long run ☺️ Residents now. Pura Vida

There is no such perfect place. If you want it perfect work it, make it perfect for you. No electrics? Buy a generator, solar power? No internet? Buy an international plan from United state? Security, hire people to work for you? I appreciate you share your experiences but it seems to me it's not a place for you guys because you don't accept their culture to stay

Hi Michael. Do you think costa rica will close their borders because of the Omicron variant?? If so when could this happen?? Thanks. Love you're videos!!
@CarlHancock
@CarlHancock 2 года назад
No. Costa Rica has a high rate of vaccination and despite what you may hear on this RU-vid channel or in the comments the vast majority of Costa Ricans and extrajenos that live in Costa Rica are very much pro-vaccine. We've moved past the stage where Costa Rica is going to be willing to shut it's borders like during the first part of the pandemic. We've also moved past the stage where they are going to have more stringent lockdowns. It would take a new variant rising up that is radically more severe than anything else seen to date (including Delta and Omicron) for that to happen. But until it does (and hopefully it doesn't) the country has moved towards a "living with the virus" stage which is what most places are going to have to do as COVID-19 is going to become endemic and never really go away.

Great video. I can vouch for the Culture shock when returning to the States. I lived in the Central Valley for 3 years, been back in the States for 3 and STILL have not adjusted to the Hamster Wheel, I struggle daily with the speed and stress of life here. Also, the horrible healthcare system in the States was a shock when I got back too. It was pretty good here b4 I moved to CR, but when I got back, the cost went WAY up and quality WAY down. I was spoiled with excellent, fast care at CIMA and the time each dr spent with me. Dentist too ! 😞

You have to remember that no one is in a hurry here (except on the road) everything else, if they say they'll be there in a couple hours figure it could be a day or two. Internet and electrical going out varies from place to place. We're in Grecia and we've had less brown out than when we were in Sarchi. Just remember life is much slower here and people don't seem to stress over things like us Northern Americans do. Remember, Pura vida (everything is good).

I truly understand the disappointment with customer service. But, I have to be honest, we Americans are totally spoiled when it comes to that. I have been an expat in Germany for 20 years and I have simply come to expect that you're on your own in the store. I think, what we have come to think of as a normal human response, is actually an American response....as disappointing as it is. So hard to get used to.

Dear Friend, greetings from Costa Rica, tranquilo in Costa Rica does not have the same meaning as a lazy person, a lazy person is someone that is not willing or not wanting to work or use effort to do something. Lazy means in Spanish (perezoso-holgazán). In Costa Rica tranquilo means "all about a state where your mind, body and feelings are relaxed in a positive way" / Happy New Year - Best wishes and Pura Vida.

OMG I was laughing soooo hard the whole way through this (except for the part about the poor tied up, penned up dogs-- long time animal welfare advocate here, you know) because it is SOOO TRUE! COLONO! Yes! All the different registers and checkouts... I was so confused after my first round with Colono that I didn't know if I was going or coming. And it was the one in La Fortuna, too. LOL Everything you guys said in this video is spot on true. But also like you said, none of this has even remotely made me ready to pack up and leave. Rather, it's something to sit around and talk smack about and laugh til we cry, like right now. I am actually working on a video right now about my last trip to the States. In it, I'll be talking about the very thing Tuesday mentioned at 27:45. I've gotten to a point that I dread going to the States because of the "rat race" tension that I, too, feel the minute I step off the plane. On the up side, Mike, the Chachagua mechanic you and your info guy told me about came all the way to Turrialba to help us with our bus. He showed up spot on time, got the work done lickety split, and even though this is going to turn into a two-day job because of ordering parts, he sure knew what he was doing. If things go south tomorrow I'll edit this part out of the comment 🤣🤣🤣 but I am hoping at this point that once this is done, we will have a fantastic "this is why we love Costa Rica" story to tell. After he gets the bus running, we're headed to La Fortuna for a couple of weeks and Michel and I hope we get a chance to buy you a beer.
