I commented on this vid when you first posted it, but I just rewatched it, and I have to say it even if I said it after my first viewing: You are SUCH a good narrator and storyteller. In your images AND in your video production. Such lovely photos. You're truly an inspiration. As a longtime nearly exclusive shooter of HP5 myself, I hope you will update us on how Fomapan is treating you! The initial images you shared at the end of the video are great. I think the lower contrast suits your 35 pre-ASPH work. Anyway, thanks for the vids, but please update us on the Foma front!

Thank you!!! 😌 RU-vid get hard sometimes, on the "creator" front, so your kind words mean a lot! Yes! I've gone through about 800 ft of Fomapan since this video, been experimenting with different developing and scanning parameters.. Been putting it through the paces in all sorts of situations, but once I hit the 1000 mark, I'll be putting together something! Stay tuned! :)

Good to see someone else that loves fomapan. I personally used it for 7 years with my Leica m4-p, and can tell you that this film is gold, but you need time to learn it. What can I say for shure is that it scans great an is even better when printed in a dark room!

Wonderful storytelling! Thanks Jeremy.:) Your video has made me lust after some Fomapan400 again. I love the look of the film when pushed to 800 and developed in HC110. I've also tried some frames pushed to 1600 but that was a bit of an overkill for my taste. I would love to see more of your journey on here!

I always have rolls of Fomapan 400 around but its not my everyday film. I find that Fomapan doesnt see some shade of red. People with red hair or reddish skin or freckles look like ghosts on Fomapan. Thats probably its biggest weakness for me. I’ll use it for landscape or for street photography but seldomly for portraits. If you’re looking for really good BW film that isnt expensive, try Kentmere 400. Its made by Ilford and is really close to HP5. I find that Kentmere is also cheaper than Fomapan.
@jeremy-t
@jeremy-t Год назад
Interesting! Yes Fomapan definitely has a "look", it reminds me of a film with a built in yellow filter.. I get mine from Europe so it's cheaper than Kentmere.. I've used k400 for awhile (100ft) and in my brief time with it, I haven't really been a fan of its mid / skin tones - it can even things together a bit much, and the mid tones can sometimes feel slightly "plasticky". But it's not something I've used extensively, so maybe that might be something else to experiment with for a few months... One day!

@JoshPricePlus
@JoshPricePlus Год назад
@@jeremy-t Both are a little sensitive to highlights blowing out.. but especially 200 makes up for it by tending to a very nice soft halation, which I like. Foma 100 in Rodinal 1/50 has fantastic detail, with lovely shadows and mid-tones .. I have several prints from 120 Foma 100 on my wall - love it. 200 has great mid and high-tones, I think it has slightly better dynamic range. I suspect a more “modern” dev than Rodinal would get more out of 200, being half-tabular.

To me, the cheapest film is good enough. There is no good or bad film (anymore), only wrong or appropriate film for the motif and the message of the picture (and if the motif is mediocre or there is no message, than it totally doesn't matter what film is used). It really isn't the film which makes the picture, it's the technical proficiency of the photographer and the appeal of the motif to the audience. No one looking at your pictures cares whether they were made with HP5 or Fomapan 400 or any other film. In the end, it only comes down to that there is a picture. What camera, what lens, what film, what developer - everything is secondary to that, with a large margin. Your body of work wouldn't be worse or better would you have used a different film all the time.
