Looks like more favorable winds (direction and speed) towards the Strait of Gibraltar and the Canaries early next week so a couple days' rest is good for everyone. That is an incredible boat and handling 25+ knots of wind with full sails is mind boggling!

Wow! That is my dream! Trying to hit twenty-five knots is what gets my heart racing when I sail. Until now I have never achieved it, but going over twenty knots is wonderful, whether on a beach catamaran or an Outremer. That's the right way to sail! Floating at less than 10 knots seems boring to me unless you are going at the speed of the wind.

Finally off the dock and headed west (sorta). Averaging 200/km every day for a month sounds like a lot. Thankfully you have about a week of wiggle room before the show. Safe sailing to the whole crew!

Cngratulations on 1) getting better and 2) for starting the official journey to the boat show in Miami. I’ve always wondered why boaters couldn’t use something like cherry bombs or something similar to keep the boat-damaging Orca’s at bay. I don’t know if it would work, but I haven’t heard anyone doing anything like that to chase them off. The amount of damage, plus the sunk boats they have caused is way beyond just a freak event and it has become a life changing experience for many boaters in those waters. Be safe, stay healthy and have a very safe journey.

I can’t believe a car rental agency would try something like “administration fees” AFTER the fact, they know if they tell you something like that beforehand, you’ll choose to take your business elsewhere…. Which is what I’ve made sure doesn’t happen to our group that’s coming over this Spring, & made sure everyone else knows who not to use. I’m really getting excited about this passage getting started, especially with so many different people & personalities. I think it’s going to be so much fun & exciting and I know without a doubt that just looking at the food is going to make me hungry, because after seeing the little Street Taco’s or Burritos, I’m already starving! I hope you guy’s had a Happy New Year!!

Renting a car in Europe is a very different experience than in the US. The insurance is especially confusing. As is the nomenclature. Understanding the fine print of the contract is always challenging in another country. Sounds like the admin fee is basically a deductible. I will say I had a rental car in Spain that was damaged in a parking lot, and I had all of the optional insurance. I did not have to pay any additional fees to cover the damage. Not sure if they would have had a different experience with a different car rental company.

I'd been feeling a little sick for the past couple of days. I thought it was a cold. Then I heard Megan's mentioning her symptoms, which were the same as mine, took the test and it came back positive. Good thing as I was scheduled for an Ultrasound and MRI in two days and I don't want to spread this to anyone else.

I could watch that aft camera for hours! This is going to be epic! You are very fortunate to have expert crew mates onboard to learn from. Amen made the crossing on their Outremere 52 in 16 days from the Canaries to St Martin I believe. They had a rough time getting out of the Med too.

There are very positive things in this experience for you. Perhaps a little reminder will help. There are several kinds of stress that have been identified. And they are markedly different. I noticed from your facial expressions and tone of voice that you are experiencing eustress. This is defined as moderate or normal psychological stress, and is interpreted as being beneficial. The reason it is beneficial is that no stress is boring and people frequently enter mild depression when there is no external stimulus. Thus the moderate and normal stresses of preparing to leave the dock are beneficial to the two of you. You are also experiencing a strong positive feedback from having a strong professional team working with you. But even more positive is the team is effective at working together. Well done to you and all your team.

Man that's fast! If the weather holds then fingers crossed you'll have a fast trip across the pond. Most car hire you need to pay extra to have zero excess (ontop of what you've paid for insurance). Still nice to see Moonshot at sea, so glad you had help on this so many systems to learn! Real benefit to have the crew from outremer onboard, such a mine of experience and knowledge! Fair winds and flat sails!

Dang! I have not heard of a production performance/cruising catamaran slicing and dicing at an average speed of 23.5 knots! I have never sailed on a catamaran like this before and Outremer so far seems to have designed a very safe, practical and functional performance catamaran. Cannot wait to see and hear your thoughts about the boat crossing the Atlantic in winter.

They say long passages are never fun and always stressful. I can’t imagine doing it on an unfamiliar ultra-fast boat. You guys definitely need those skippers and hopefully it will allow you to enjoy a few days, anyway.. Love raw content!
