Today we leave Baie Fine and our world class anchorage in Mary Anne Cove to visit the biggest town in the entire North Channel, Little Current. We are sad to leave this freshwater fjord, but are very happy to have visited, the vistas are completely insane. Visiting little current, which is sometimes "a whole lotta" current, we find our first marina stay since mid-way on the Trent-Severn! Our stop in Little Current also lands us on the biggest freshwater island in the world, Manitoulin Island.
Thanks for watching!
Cheers from the Loop,
Jennifer and Elliot

ABOUT US
Hi! We are high school sweethearts from Atlanta, Georgia who decided to take a year off to travel around the world. Together we decided to create vlogs for our journey as a fun way to remember it. On September 15, 2019, we left Atlanta with 3 bags, 2 one-way tickets, and 1 goal of traveling for a whole year. Little did we know, 6 months later we would find ourselves in a nationwide lockdown in India. After spending 5 months in India, we came back to the United States and decided to purchase a 34’ Trawler, dive headfirst into boat life, and kick-off America’s Great Loop.
The good, the bad, the ugly - and most importantly, the real and real funny. We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done.”, just how we’ve done it. And that whatever it is that’s calling you - the way you’ll do it is much more attainable than it may seem.
Thank you for following us along our journey!

If you push the channel selector button down on your radio handset, it will switch to the wx or weather radio band, where you can access 10 channels. Scroll through those to get the clearest channel for your weather area. No need for wifi to access weather. Enjoy the prettiest cruising in the world!

Little Current sure has changed in the past 42 years. Nice to see the improvements. Brings back great memories. Bay Fine is a great anchorage but went the wind picks up you need to be well anchored and tied off to shore if you do not want to drag anchor. Sorry you did not get a chance to go to La Cloche, Some of the rocks when taped sound like a bell, hence the name in French.

I want to say thank you so much for visiting the area I grew up in and I am so glad you enjoyed it so much. It is truly a magical place and I feel so fortunate to have grown up there. My uncle used to own the Bad River Lodge (one channel to the west of where you anchored for the rapids). Small bit of trivia, that anchorage has seen some pretty famous people over the years including Walter Cronkite, Tom Sellack and at one point most of the Dallas Cowboys Team. I spent many days fishing and boating in the very channels you explored in both Fred and while tubing. The pink rock you see in this area is Feldspar...an igneous rock with lots of potassium (what makes it pink). Looking forward to seeing the rest of your journey!

I see it looks like you have a Manson Supreme anchor. Or one that looks very similar to it, that's one of the safest anchors you can use. And I see you have a large enough one to hold you in a severe storm. Great going, hope you have a trip of a lifetime.. 🧜‍♂️❤️👌

I realize you are only half way through the Loop with your videos and I can't help but notice that in every one of your last six you have said thiis is "the best" or "favourite" experience or location. You have now had a great deal of time to reflect on the entire experience and my request is for you to post a video after crossing your wake has aired where you reveal your top ten or twenty places/experiences and places you would like to go back to.

Give me clear water, pine trees and, some rocky, post glacier terrain and I am a happy camper. Oh and add a fishing pole. You young folks are seeing what I consider is some of the truly beautiful areas, that, by the way many of our Canadian friends get to see everyday. Enjoy it.

Missed you guys in Little Current by a week, had to get back to our home port of Charlevoix by Aug 14. Looking forward to your videos in our home waters of Little Traverse Bay and Grand Traverse Bay. We always warn the Loopers that as much as they want to maximize their time in the North Channel, doing so sets you up to battle Lake Michigan in September, which means you'll very likely get stuck in port for extended periods and have to rush your way down the Michigan shore during weather windows and skip past some cool ports in order to get to Chicago on time. Oh well, trade offs.

I have been enjoying your Loop videos vicariously. I am waiting for the survey of a 1988 34' twin engine Marine Trader that is in Shediac New Brunswick, Canada. When I take possession, I will hire a captain to help me bring her up to Three Rivers and then cruise - mostly solo - up the St Lawrence and then the Trent-Severn. I would love to do the loop but for medical reasons i have to stay close to Canada. So, I'll return back down the T-S, do the Rideau Canal to Ottawa and down to Lake of Two Mountains for winter haul out. Maybe next year?

The mountains are made of Quartzite rather than Granite. Quartzite does not neutralize acid rain as granite does. As a result, there are dead lakes in the KIlarney area. One such lake is called Topaz Lake. It is incredibly beautiful and safe for swimming. Canadian weather reports are not as good as American reports. Many of us learn to make our own weather predictions. We also have some pretty wild stories about getting caught in storms. The south end of Beausoliel Island (the Gap) is one such place where converging waves can take you down.

There is a shipwreck that people can check out on Georgian Bay without even getting wet. It is called the Waubuno from 1879 and is located in Massasauga Provincial Park. There is a song called Black Water to get you in the spirit. By the way...stock up on groceries in Midland or Parry Sound. Everything else is overpriced and lower quality.

We are in our boat search phase, with plans to do the loop next year. My work schedule is 3 weeks on, 3 off. Do you think it's feasible to do the loop with that schedule? I would be off the boat for 3 weeks at a time, with my wife staying on board while I travel for work. Are there enough marinas, anchorages, etc that would allow our boat to stay for 3 weeks at a time on the loop???
@SchoandJo
@SchoandJo Год назад
I think that could be possible… we met a couple that had a similar schedule, they’d make miles and then stop in a location while they traveled for work, rinse and repeat. Go for it!! 💪
@helimx
@helimx Год назад
@@SchoandJo at fuel stops on the loop are there usually employees at the docks to help? My concern is full black water, and empty fresh while I'm gone, which would have my wife driving the boat solo
@SchoandJo
@SchoandJo Год назад
There are still options for that - before you leave you could refill water and get pumped. 1 person on our boat could have around 3 weeks of water / sewage. Another option is to go composting toilet, where you don't need a pumpout, and along with full tanks, keeping 6 gallon refillable water jugs so your partner can fill up when taking the dinghy to shore. In the Keys they also have a pumpout boat that comes to you, so you wouldn't have to worry about sewage in that region at least. If you are at a marina then they have both water and bathrooms so no worries!
