literally what i was thinking too the whole time. As a POC and a Muslim who wears the hijab(head scarf) I just know I wouldn't get the same treatment, although i have never been there myself.

You might get a cursory “hello” from a passer-by if out on a walk in the countryside or from someone walking into a doctor’s waiting room or entering an elevator. There was actually a small documentary about the Texan Paris some years ago - where most Europeans visiting came just because of the movie- and apparently Texan Parisians are also pretty proud to have the highest eiffel tower with a cowboyhat on it 😂

Yeah that whole rant was gross. Like wah why can’t I live MY life. Like. It’s because everyone with that attitude is keeping us from moving on. Vaccine rollouts aren’t effective if our borders aren’t literally containing the spread. So him saying “I just can’t sit here anymore” just sounded like his tone through this whole video. Defensive and snide. But I get it. I don’t love being in a pandemic. But I understand it takes times because everyone isn’t going to follow protocols nor can they even afford to close down (Mexico, Florida and Texas). But whatever. Like he said. Our governments are really at fault because if anything no one except some countries like New Zealand and China (with an even stricter lockdown) are actually reopened with the majority of their populations safe. Not just some. With those not able to defend themselves (by being able to stay home) to be exposed to those wanting to “lead their lives” and having to work because our governments have financially made this reality impossible.but also he isn’t not not a spreader himself because the vaccine takes time to kick in and him traveling around Texas a state that basically yolo’d their reopening and the pandemic doesn’t keep his risk low. Because as we see he’s out and about. Eating out and living his life. But I’m over it lol. Yes, but keep in mind that depending how you look and where you go, this attitude can be a luxury, or even imossible for some people for safety reasons/double standards.

While Damon does that though travel, there is social media and the internet to learn about other cultures, there is the free public library to check out books. There is the compassion inside you to see people who are different from you walk down the street and have the open-mindedness to speak with them, try to understand them, instead of judge them. I come from a low income family. I understand what it means to have travel as a luxury. I also come from a closed off Orthodox Jewish community. I made my first non Jewish friend when I was 20. But coming from a low income background or a closed off community does not give me the right to judge other people, or not try to understand them. being openminded and learning about the world around you, even if its just from encounters you have with people you meet on the street-- that's part of being a compassionate human being. it is not a luxury.

I get what you mean, but there are certain countries that I would never go to because it would be dangerous to go as a Jew, but I've still made it a point to meet and befriend people from those countries, as well as search up openminded influencers from those countries so I can get a better perspective. Perhaps I have help because I went to college with an international population, and I have access to social media. But I honestly feel like unless you live in a really remote area with not many people and you have no access to social media, it's possible. and even then, it has been done (ie Tara Westover)

@@aurorasadprose2726 In my opinion (I am from Finland) most of us are friendly once you get to know us or ask for help etc., but in general people are quiet, maybe more introverted and like to mind their own business, and there is often no casual small talk or conversations, we don’t really talk much with people we don’t really know. Overall you only say what is needed and no longer conversation usually happens between people who don’t know each other well, at least here in Finland (of course there is some differences between the countries even though our cultures are similar). For example, we don’t smile or say hello to strangers on the street or sit beside someone we don’t know in the buss if we don’t have to. I think in all Nordic countries in general personal space is really important and many people coming from different cultures might find this rude. I absolutely love my country and recommend visiting, of course, but it is good to know that our culture is like this and in general people aren’t as ”open” as they seem to be for example in the American culture.
