Bloody slavery. If I decide I don't want to work for my company anymore. Its my freedom. I don't work' you don't pay me, simple. If an employer loses money because an employee left then thats tough shit and they should deal with it. Taking them to court and forcing money from them is bullshit.
Employee and employer agreed to given notice period beforehand; it's not a standard at-will contract. This was probably a professional position like an a lawyer, doctor, or engineer.
Exactly this. I am in consultation period and will potentially be made redundant. I wondered what would happen if I just "walked" given the circumstances. It's rather frustrating to see that it could have financial implications on me beyond that of not receiving my paycheck.
All I care about when I give notice is to get that last paycheck. I couldn't care less about the employer just come in do my best and finish everything out.
