LeBron James, officially up and practicing with Team USA in preparation for the Paris Olympics, met with the media over the weekend. He talked about Bronny, and what has been a very, very quiet offseason. James didn't give a full throated defense of the front office, but he didn't fillet them, either. There was a strong, "it is what it is" kind of vibe.
LeBron acknowledged that the Lakers at least tried, and certain moves were just beyond their ability to close the deal. So he's smart enough to recognize the challenges of making stuff happen this summer.
Doesn't mean he's happy they're in the position they're in, but that's not something he went out of his way to complain. It's his job, he says, to make this group as good as he can. He was excited about the rookies and the coaching staff, which is good. Would he prefer the Lakers have improved themselves? Sure, but James does seem to have a pragmatic attitude, reflective of the relatively transactional nature of the relationship with the team.
Meanwhile, up in San Francisco the Summer Lakers struggled badly this weekend. Saturday in a loss to the Summer Kings, the Lakers showed flashes of good stuff, but ultimately lost pretty big. Sunday... woof. The Summer Warriors blew them out of the water while everyone on the Lakers was godawful. They shot 25% as a team. Not from 3, but from the floor. Dalton Knecht missed his shots, Maxwell Lewis missed his shots (all of them), Blake Hinson, who was on fire Saturday, was 2-10 on Sunday.
There's still a lot of time to learn what's going on with these guys and get a better feel. Early returns, for whatever they're worth, weren't fantastic.
HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky
SEGMENT 1: LeBron speaks to the media about the state of the Lakers.
SEGMENT 2: James on the offseason.
SEGMENT 3: Reacting to the first weekend of Summer League play.

Brian nailed it. Russell needs to be traded for someone who plays real minutes in the front court for James and Davis. Trade partners might be willing to take Cam and Wood. Moving Russell will take at least one of the draft picks

Lakers should be trading for Olynyk. They coukd probably swing a deal that turns Rui and Vincent into Olynyk and Gary Trent Jr. That improves height and 3-point shooting. Olynyk is 6'11" and is consistent as a good 3-point shooter. He also has pkayed an average of 69 games oer season for an 11-year career. That's reliability.

Max Lewis's style is too oversimplified. Doesn't have enough confidence in his 3-point shot, so he is automatically charging into the paint.

I wish Lebron would have went to the Clippers and a serious owner in Steve Ballmer in 2018. Could have still recruited AD and have at least 3 championships plus a fan base that actually would appreciate him.

As odd as your take sounds, it is right. The crap he gets from lakers fans is unreal. When he retires, I’ll never watch another lakers game, apparently they forgot the previous 5 seasons before he went there and brought AD.
@DOUBLECW
@DOUBLECW 13 дней назад
While your point about Clipper fans appreciating him is valid, assuming "at least 3 championships" is ridiculous. LeBron himself hasn't been healthy enough to ensure that, let alone AD. If LeBron was on the Clippers, then many of the positive moves they've made since Balmer has taken over wouldn't have been possible and honestly I don't think the Clippers had the cap space to bring LeBron in anyway. Honestly, you could make a strong argument that the LeBron wouldn't even have the 2020 championship if he had been on the Clippers, and he would still "only" have 3 championships for his career.

BK mentioned a few guys that could be traded away and Accurately said you don't want to trade a guy like Vando or Dlo and create a hole in your roster. The only person not mentioned was Reaves... who ironically would be the easiest player to trade and NOT create a hole.... he's not the best defender, he's not the best "playmaker/ballhandler", he's not th best 3pt shooter (was maybe 4th best 3pt shooter before we lost TP), and hes not a true PG like Dlo. Also, most of the guys we were interested in acquiring, play his position (i.e. Murray, Klay, Derozan, Lavine, Trent Jr.) I really think the "Theory" of the "greatness" of Reaves is preventing LA from improving the roster. He's a really Good player but he's not better than any of LA's trade targets I mentioned. Yes the contract is great, but at some point you have to cash-in on the over valued asset. AR is the linchpin to unlocking a trade to upgrade the roster. (Unless we can turn Rui into Grant)

A lot of high quality free agents like Klay Thompson, who has many reasons to come to LA , might have been turn off by the thought of playing for JJ Reddick / Lebron.

Full disclosure I’m a Bron “Stan”, but I do see the mess that his unfettered reign as the epicenter of all things Lakers has become. The bigger picture is he wants to be an owner someday and The Lakers mom and pop shop works as a training ground. Lakers are cool with it and so is the NBA. In saying that I see rings will be second to this experience for him and I’m hoping we all will understand that when it’s all said and done. Lastly if Paul Reed is the 5 Lakers pick up it’s a sad day, he has no size to battle the behemoths in the league, wish him well though.

Blazers Lakers trade Blazers send Grant, Williams, Murray and Repurt 2 2nd round picks Lakers send Hachimura, Vincent, Russell and knecht You can put in a draft picks in instead of Knecht on an agreement to trade back the picks for Knecht when is able to be traded in August. Williams would have to be cleared on all injuries as well. Which I hear he would. It’s a win for both teams in my opinion as Lakers also need a center

Sure, but I've also seen plenty of players who struggled as rookies go on to have strong careers. Don't get me wrong. It's awesome when they do own the SPL as rookies, but it's not a red flag if they don't. That was our larger point. It is a red flag, however, when second-year guys struggle. That often signals trouble. Appreciate you watching. AK

19:25 his contract is league minimum. Bronny's contract doesnt really have anything to do with our cap situation. Same goes with maxwell who's on the same deal as bronny. Dalton and Jalen realistically effect our cap.
@LockedOnLakers
@LockedOnLakers 13 дней назад
Hey trib. I wasn't talking about cap, I was referencing roster spots. Were Bronny on a 2-way, it would open up a spot for a minimum player, or someone like Castleton to have a regular contract. Would they be better off with Bronny on a 2-way, someone else in that spot, and lose out on someone like Hinson? We're talking about stuff on the margins, so I'm certainly not making a big issue of it. I've defended Bronny's contract as much, much more normal than many want to believe it is. But their big issue right now isn't just money, it's that they have no open roster spots in part b/c Bronny gets one. In a different year, they might have handled it with 55 differently. I'm not angry about it, though. Thanks! BK

It existed prior to LeBron and Jeanie. How soon we forget Jim Buss and Mitch. It is now more of a circus because LeBron is pulling the strings. Even the Cali Lakers suck. Bronny is not an NBA player. Every aspect of the Lakers is trash. Not sticking with the 2020 squad and later trading for Westbrook has ruined this team for the foreseeable future!! Jeanie has to sell a large portion of the team to a billionaire company who can AFFORD the team and Rob MUST GO!!!

Jeanie is a good owner. Selling the team to a "bilionaire company" doesn't guarantee any better results and actually can lead to much worse results (see the Clippers, Nets, Rockets, etc.) with less accountability because then you don't know who the team owner even is. Every aspect of the Lakers is not trash, but if you feel that way maybe you can switch to the Spurs or Trailblazers or Jazz for a better fan experience.
