Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless discuss LeBron James' comments that Team USA would beat the Dream Team. Watch more videos like this at www.espnamerica.com
Yeah unlike many other people, I actually watched the 92 dream team play and I could not picture any team from any era, from any league beating them. Lebron and the athletes are freaks but that 92 USA team was just unreal.
Redeem team is too fast for them and can shoot… the dream team have no shooters and Larry bird was old and magic was old Lebron and Kobe and wade team wins
@Abdul Shah that is the most hilarious thing I’ve heard all day, Larry Bird and Magic have the best basketball iq’s in the history of the game, no question.
@@dewit5883 totally agree the reason why nba got famous around the world started when lakers celtics rivalry in 80's bad boys jordan bulls just continue their legacy
LeBron, Westbrook, Carmelo, and Anthony Davis on that Team USA - it's like he was trying to reassemble that team on the Lakers 😂🤣😂. Gotta say though, Westbrook, Harden, Melo, Deron Williams, Kevin Love, Chris Paul... a lot of defensive liabilities playing against a team that was stacked on both ends of the court.
Oh no, not the 6'1" 175 pound white dude. Nobody is stopping that guy. On an unrelated subject, I wonder why there isn't a single 6'1" 175 pound white point guard in the league right now....
Fun Facts: The members of the Dream Team combined for 23 NBA championship rings. The Dream Team roster combined for 15 NBA MVP awards. When the NBA at 50 released its top 50 players of all time in 2017, a total of 10 members of the Dream Team made that list. The only players that were not on the top 50 were Chris Mullin and Christian Laettner. The 12 players on the Dream Team combined for 117 NBA All-Star Game appearances. Jordan and Malone led the way with 14 appearances each over their entire careers. Eight of the top 50 NBA scorers of all time played on the Dream Team. That list includes Karl Malone (36,928), Jordan (32,292), Patrick Ewing (24,815), Charles Barkley (23,757), Clyde Drexler (22,195), Larry Bird (21,791), David Robinson (20,790) and John Stockton (19,711). 👀👀
barkley better known as sir charles also played six more years at a high level and won the mvp award in 93 and led his team to the finals that same year as well. 23.2 11.1 4.1 1.8 stats in 92
Charles Barkley would be the key in the Dream Team, Absolutley no player could guard him in his prime. The dude shot 70-81% in both The Original Dream Team and Dream Team II. No player today could guard his in between post and mid range game. Then you add Michael in his peak. No way they would loose. The Frontline of the Original Dream Team totally demolishes the modern team. Just imagine if it was 1986 Bird, 1987 Magic, 1990 Barkley and 1991 Jordan. THEY GOT NO CHANCE!
yeah at a small size many people says things like they watch and the 92 are not athletic enough damn wish they saw barkley jumping getting rebounds more inches above him and how he ran the floor in fastbreak and 6'9 270, i think lebron cannot drop shaq on the floor like barkley did ..
@@dadillonful dream team knew how to play better as a team and were more physical and much better inside. Who’s guarding Robinson, Malone or Ewing? You had Dwight, then who? Dwight who they’d have to take off the court eventually for being an offensive liability, especially against that front court. Tbh, the 96 team matches up even better because they had great shooters, elite defense, and best center rotation of all time in Shaq, Hakeem and Robinson.
+martin2cold bruh, lebron ain't a basketball player period. Imagine if someone like Andre Miller had his body. Now thatd be scary. In fact, IF EVERYONE did. Lol. Lebron is only good because of his size and athleticism. And Kevin durant isn't the best scorer ever. chamberlain had 100. Kobe had 81. Kareem DOMINATED. NO ONE COULD STOP HIM.
So far, the 1992 USA Dream Team is the greatest Basketball Team ever assembled in history. They won every match by more than a 30 pt margin. They owned everyone👏😎🔥
Roguish Miggz , lmao bro When LeBron went back to Cleveland the first time those fans treated him like shit and he still dropped about 40pts... trash talk isn’t shit to LeBron... as a matter of fact you can find videos on RU-vid of players trying to trash talk LeBron and he embarrass them every time
Roguish Miggz true the NBA was fuckin rough back then but that doesn’t change the fact like Lebron is 6’9 270 of pure strength and speed I don’t care who you are that’s gonna be hard to stop
It’s wasn’t just the trash talk it’s the fact Jordan would talk shit while dropping 50 on you... while at the same time being one of the best defense players ever.
Don’t really know why the topic of comparison was the 2012 team rather than the 2008 redeem team which featured the likes of LeBron, Kobe, D.Wade, Melo, Cp3, D12, DWill, Redd, Kidd all in their primes vs the 2012 team who had an aged Kobe, and less superstars but up top besides LeBron and KD
Looking back at it, team USA could've easily assembled the best ever team in 2016: Steph, LeBron, KD, Cousins, AD, Kawhi, Harden, Klay, Draymond, Westbrook, Kyrie, Love, CP3, PG, Derozan all in their prime
Man they watch the games. They see the difference. The original dream team was destroying team by 60 and 70 points. These new dream team making the game look competitive. Everyone in the world just be lying now saying anything
Ummmmm what? They're talking about 1992 right? The Dream Team right? With Michael, Scottie, Barkley, Malone, Stockton, Robinson, Patrick, Bird, Magic, Clyde the glide, Mullins, and that college kid who's name I can't spell lol. I love Kobe but MJ would win this game, I love LBJ but Scottie can lock his ass up, I love Melo, KD, Paul, but they just don't stack up against Magic, Barkley, or even Stockton. You're talking about a group of players who's basketball IQ is off the charts, athleticism is off the charts, so clutch, so much heart, determination. It would not even be a challenge. Please, someone send this to Stephen A., The Dream Team can beat ANYONE, and if it was 1 game, or even a best out of 7, it would be a blowout and sweep.
wat u don't see is those guys are mostly old , past their prime. Young fresh ballers would be too much athletically to handle , especially Durant and Westbrook. Matchup Nightmare . who would they put on them
They let them come inside, the dream team has huge bigs... Defense the jumper and let them go inside, you have crazy bigs that will get the job done in the paint. 1992 can beat ANY team assembled.
lol. Dude those guys have no athleticism. u really think they can stop players like Rose, Westbrook, Durant ,Lebron, Melo,Harden. They would get dunked on Bro. They don't have any lift . They would banged on all day.I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but we have to be realistic. Ewing ain't gunna become Dwight Howard all of a sudden,He can't stop none of them At The Basket, They're too ATHLETIC, and he's NOT. People just don't realize, this league isn't the same. These Players nowadays got so much lift and don't give a damn, They see u at the rim, They're gunna bang out, especially Lebron and Durant, They have 0 chance of stopping them at the Rim and Igwadola too
Back in the 90's only a few Players could do shit like that, but Nowadays PG's can do shit that forwards weren't even doing in the 90's , its crazy, like Russel Westbrook, Insane
You deff watch too many highlights. I've seen players like Larry Bird take on Pippen and school him. Pippen is one of the best defenders of all time. Athleticism doesn't mean anything, look at the spurs, they won against Durant and Westbrooke, and LeBron. They're 7 feet tall and plus. They have the greatest, the best pg of all time, best 2 perimeter defenders in the 90s. One of the best power forwards in Barkley. You keep saying who will stop these players, but most of the players in today's NBA are one dimensional. If they were to play in the rules today the dream team would destroy them, and if they played with the rules back then, well that's still destruction. I give Kobe and Durant an edge to be able to play against these players, and yes maybe Westbrooke if his game is on point.
Nothing compared to original dream team. i saw 2012 and original dream team and no doubt MJ Malon Pippen Robinson and Ewing would destroy any other team
@@kawhiclampgod2236 true but magic would be impossible for Chris Paul to guard especially with a team of legends to pass to. Magic becomes that much more valuable.
mullin who was truly a great scorer also played he also played several more years after that and averaged double score in points for the next several yrs. 25.6 5.6 3.5 2.1 0.8 stats in 92
mark henson Roy Hibbert is one of the softest big men in the league today and so overrated! Dwight is a crybaby and lacks mental toughness and would get killed in the post man. Tim Duncan is from that cloth of big men he's the only good one of those 3
mark henson Dwight Howard would learn a lot about post moves playing against those guys on the 92 team. Tim Duncan is legit and would be great in any era with his game.
5:20 Skip saying LeBron beat up his "friend" Kevin Durant in the 2012 Finals Skip (on repeat) after the 2017 and 2018 Finals: Durant made the shot of shots in front of LeBron James
the original dream team has a hall of fame player at every singe position except christian laettiner(dont think i spelled his name right) they would destroy any team in nba history
Dream Team 145 Team USA 107 Not even close. MJ absolutely CRUSHES Lebron, who's about to get his ass swept for the second time in the Finals. Plus Bird, Magic, Barkley, Drexler, etc. And Centers Ewing, Robinson.
@@akhenaton1979 like people tend to forget, Magic literally came from retirement, Bird was dealing with back issues, 2012 LeBron and Kobe were in their prime, not forgetting AD and Melo.
He's basically Kyle Korver today but can't shoot the three as quite as well. Making an Olympic team would mean he's overrated. Korver has made one single all star team. The 90's are overrated.
He beat the Spurs last year. Plus, the Spurs this year have three hall of famers including the best power forward of all time and one of the best coaches of all time. Shut up, you sound ignorant.
Akash Mehta Sounds like your trying to say Spurs added hall of famers, a power forward, and a coach all this year... The Spur's core roster and game hasn't changed in like 5 years and still consistently top their season conference. Please watch your step as you get off your wagon.
no he doesnt, Magic would guard lebron like diaw guarded Lebron for the spurs in the 2 NBA finals. Scottie would guard durant, kobe vs jordan and barkely, malone, robinson, ewing would easily win the PF and Center match ups. Then he brought up chris paul as if John Stockton isnt playing on this team. Also Clyde drexler is on this team, seriously there is no comparison and all SAS did was name drop.
You mean the 7'0" 240 pound feet I'm cement Ewing and the 7'1" 235 pound David Robinson? You realize Lebron outweighs both of those guys right? I guess they just have combines for fun...
stockton who is a hall of fame point guard and the all time assists and steals leaders also played six more years at a high level got to the finals in 97 and 98. he also lead the league in assist the year in 92. 15.8 3.3 13.7 3.0 stats in 92
To watch a game like that! It would be the greatest basketball game to be ever be played, but remember if you bring the past and the present together like that the game would come down to how the game is officiated, half the dream team would foul out b4 halftime, on the reverse, if the officiating was like it used to be then team usa would have to tough up or get man handled.
Why does the media keep pushing this nonsense narrative that Pippen guarded Johnson in the 91 finals because Jordan couldn’t. That happened for basically 1 and a half games after a disappointing game 1. Jordan defended Magic well in half of game 3 and games 4 and 5.
Simulation using WhatIfSports: GAME 1: Original 117, Modern 108 GAME 2: Original 108, Modern 105 GAME 3: Modern 104, Original 87 GAME 4: Original 104, Modern 99 GAME 5: Original 121, Modern 99 Original wins series 4-1
+lukerbom12 The modern team has a lot of shorter players this means rebounding could turn out to be a problem, but they are younger so they would have a faster game, I'll give the modern team game 2 and game 5
+Forced to take a picture with my step-dad or else im not gunna get shit for christmas No. They'd just play small ball and have a 3 point shootout like they did against nigeria.
Joseph Johnroe did you guys ever watch the Lakers in the 1980’s. It was team defense. Magic played great in the system and always had tons of steals and defensive rebounds. Magic would tear apart CP3.
I would bet my money on the Dream Team. That was a freight train from hell. Jordan, Bird, Magic, Robinson, Pippen, Barkley......c'mon. These new age players are in a totally different and pussified era where a wrong touch is a foul for free throws. Those Dream Team guys were gritty and had true hustle.
@@michaelz8410 Steph isn't a good defender. He's just a shooter. In fact, he needs another 3pt contest victory to catch up with Larry Bird. I watch the game today. Curry gets trashed in the post. I don't get the hype of these one stat having players today. Hell, even LeBron at age 30 isn't even close to what Bird was at 30. Bird alone had a higher FG%, higher APG avg, and higher MPG avg than LeBron as both being small forwards. Either way, the 1992 Dream Team beat every country by 30 points minimum.
@@michaelz8410 I get it though. Your only reference is to the generation you grew up with. I watched both teams throughout my years. I bet on teams and players for the past 35 years. My money went on LeBron and I lost because he's not clutch consistently when the game winning shot matters. I'll take Jordan and Bird any day over the current league that's so dependent on 3 pointers, it makes the game boring.
Usually this type of match-up is determined by which team plays better defense and which team is willing to share the ball. Like it doesn't matter as much if Barkley is an unstoppable offensive player if he's taking shots from Jordan. That being said, the dream team has much better defenders and players who are great at sharing the ball. Like on one side you have Magic Johnson and John Stockton making plays, all-time elite defenders like David Robinson, Patrick Ewing and Scottie Pippen as well as great team players like Larry Bird and on the other side you have isolation exclusive players like Harden, Westbrook, Melo, Kobe, Durant. Players like Barkley, Malone and Drexler are liabilities, LeBron is probably the best asset to have in such a match-up because he's such a terrific passer, always makes the right play and is physically dominant. Jordan wouldn't be that valuable since nearly every player on your team is already a beast on offense. Meanwhile a player such as Klay Thompson would also be amazing since he is so good off-ball as well as a monster on defense. Basically I think the dynamics of this match-up would be much different than of a regular NBA game.
robinson of course better known as the admiral was 26yrs old and he played at least seven more years at the highest level and won two championships after that and just you how gretat he was 23.2 12.3 2.7 2.3 4.5 stats in 92
People forget that D Howard, D Rose, and D Wade were suppose to play on the 2012 team. With those 3 included I don't think the 92 team could beat the 2012 team, but as things are the 92 team would beat the 2012 team, but It would be a tough series for both teams.
I can make a team right now, that will probably beat the dream team. Let's call this team the *Renaissance Team* .... (This Renaissance Team is a subject to change, because the point is that such team exists, not what exactly this team is) *Curry/Westbrook/Butler/Durant/Kawhi/Lebron/Antetokounmpo/Draymond Green/Blake Griffin/Davis/Cousins/Whiteside* A possible starting five: PG - Westbrook/ SG - Durant/ SF - Kawhi/ PF - Lebron/ C - Cousins. If you want a team with size (for example): PG - Antetokounmpo/ SG - Durant/ SF - Lebron/ PF or FC - Cousins/ C - Whiteside you can also make a very physical team: PG - Westbrook/ SG - Butler/ SF - Lebron/ Griffin/ Cousins or Whiteside or a ridiculously good shooting team: PG - Curry/ SG - Durant/ SF - Kawhi/ PF - Griffin/ C - Davis (Yes, KD can play shooting guard, Cousins can play PF, and yes Antetokounmpo can play PG). *Want to reply?? Go ahead!! :)*
Nice squad other than the fact that giannis couldn't play from the USA team. He's from Greece. Of Nigerian decent.. think it would be a solid match up tho.
Here's why they can't beat the dream team plain and simple. The dream team's defense was insane. The dream team can play way better defense than the 2012 team. The 2012 team might be able to match them offensively, but they can't stop the dream team. The dream team can lock them down on defense. You can watch all of the dream team's games right here on youtube. Go find out for yourself.
This one’s too easy. 2012 team avg scoring margin: 32.1 points Dream Team’s avg scoring margin: 43.8 points Dream Team’s closest game: 32 points No gas-bagging required here. There’s a reason they’re called the Dream Team.
i think if both in there prime the teams i believe it would of been interesting and i think first team to much talent , better defenders better shooters better vision passers better iq on the court just to much class all those players are one of a kind one heck of a team to remember
Only the'96 team could match the dream team. The team that could have beaten the dream team was the 2004 team that was never assembled (Shaq, Kobe, TMac, Kidd, Garnett, Carter, Pierce, Duncan, Iverson, Allen, A.Rahim...
Gary Payton says Stockton was the toughest match-up he ever had offense and defense. He has more steals than anyone in History and it is not even close. CP3 is a great PG but come on people talk about how would stockton guard CP3 really I see it the other way around It is not only the big boys down low that sets the Dream Team apart from the 2012 team Stockton, Jordon, Pippen and Drexler are all in the top seven all time in steals.. Kobe may someday pass Drexler on that list maybe but he won't pass Pippen Jordon or stockton nor will anyone else on the 2012 team Defense and size wins it for the Dream Team everytime
In terms of mental toughness, only Kobe Bryant from the 2012 team could match with the players of the original dream team. The rest of the 2012 team would probably shiver under the pressure.
