Charles Leclerc´s demo run in Niki Lauda´s 1974 Ferrari Formula 1 car through the streets of Monte Carlo ends in tears at Rascasse during the 2022 edition of Monaco Historic Grand Prix #F1 #MonacoGP #Ferrari
Thanks, this is the comment i was looking for! 👌🏻 i knew it's not his driving ability which caused this crash, but i didn't knew what kind of issue he had to deal with!
Yup. Crazy isn't it. In 1981 they had some drivers that were 6'4" and 90kilos. Cars that had ~1500hp in Quali boost and that weighed ~530kgs 🤤🤤 Edited due to the rampant homosexuals correcting me by 2 years. 1300bhp @4.6bar Only a couple were 6'4"(my point wasnt they were all 6'4", it was that they didnt need to weigh as much as a 10 year old child). 1983 not 1981.
Imagine being in that much of a legendary car and crashing it. I would be absolutely broken. I probably would have forgotten it for the entirety of the year
Why? They're meant to be driven. Half the car is probably replaced every year. They have the blueprints, if you can afford to own it you can afford to replace parts no problem
@@AlbertoDsign yeh, back then the rules were less strict and they didn't have computers to make them all reach more or less the same conclusion on the best concept
@@fuzzy1dk The problem is not computers, but the rules forcing everybody to take the same approach, and banning everything innovative. Me might aswell have a one-make racing series...
@@skrillah6259 Plot twist: Matt Gallagher ("I say that!! I've done it!!") is a fierce Ferrari fan (or, in his own words, "not a fanboy, but a passionate fan") He's also been calling for Leclerc as future World Champion ever since he arrived in Ferrari. So that crash stung right in the middle of his heart.
This is 4D chess from leclerc. He is getting his Monaco curse out early so when its time for official f1, he can now aim for the win without worrying about that witch
@@sh0r_902 He's one of the best drivers in the world, but he is extremely unlucky in Monaco and he hasn't finished a single race there. Senna was unlucky in Brazil too.
you'd think driving a production car at street pace in regular traffic is a whole different story than driving an F1 basically anywhere.... maybe he's confused because he drove those streets as a regular Monegasque so much. I'd be confused if I had to drive a race car in my hometown turned into a circuit.
@@eddybouh2079 i think is more related to be the winner in his hometown thats why he is cursed here, drivers drove other street circuits in daily basis and still win there such as bathurst, Adelaide, New castle, albert park and many others
@242turbo it was a different era, the challenge with having an F1 driver from one era driving cars from another is that each era had its own difficulties to overcome. Like today's drivers don't have to deal with the ridiculous power to weight ratios of older cars or the stick shifter, but on the other hand they have to be multitasking gods and have to deal with extreme G-forces that older drivers couldn’t even dream of Different era, different challenges altogether
Front left brake fail, you can see at about 0:20 a little spark by the left sidepod, pieces of the front left brake disc. Luckily it happened at LaRascasse and not on a faster corner.
@@adamutuber exactly, team covering for him so he doesn't look like a tool. Also goes for a "parade lap" with a brake failure and broken rear wing instead of going into the pits
Imagine doing it EVERY SINGLE YEAR at Monaco because that's the reality. Charles is one of the top 3 drivers on the grid but he shouldn't be driving at Monaco lol.
Nowadays Barrichello competes in the Brazilian Stock Car pro series, and despite having 20 GP wins and 1 title, he keeps on not winning at Interlagos! I’ve been there last February and he abandoned the race after the first lap! D: I still believe he’ll overcome this curse though
@@mr8I7 for the longest amount of time Webber best performance at Australia was in the Minardi lmao 😭😭 Button never made it to the podium at Silverstone either
I would love to see Monaco reverted back to classic cars like this vs doing away with the circuit. Let one manufacturer create a stock design ( probably would require the halo...just because)
While there is a risk when racing these classic cars, I'm glad they are driven how they were meant to. But the question arises - how does the team deal with spare parts? They should have the blueprints, but is it possible to manufacture them again (I'm assuming the tooling, dies etc are long gone)
I’m not certain but Ferrari have a whole warehouse and team dedicated to just running and maintaining the historic cars. So while I doubt they dyes and molds are around in a large quantity. I could almost guarantee they have enough to reproduce parts in a small number. McLaren have a similar department that’s is wholly dedicated to their historic cars
@@madtrade while that may be easiest to manufacture. Teams that still maintain their historic cars more often will use period correct manufacturing processes to keep the car as original as possible
@@carlosrp92 the 1970s F1 cars reminded me a lot to TEST DRIVE FERRARI RACING LEGENDS. Released 5 months before LoveLive Sunshine and Aqours were debuted in September 2012, as well as the last TEST DRIVE game ever. Until TDU SOLAR CROWN.
My best friend's dad was driving his 1982 Arrows F1 car at this exact same event and he mentioned just how notorious the entire Monaco circuit is with the older cars. Barely any grip, incredibly tight corners for non-professionals and even professional F1 drivers such as Leclerc. He took it slowly all weekend and barely pushed the car out of fear that something like this may happen.
I don't think he is a challenge for Max in the way Lewis absolutely was/is. Lecler and Max had once really good battle, then Max DNF. He hasn't beaten Max as yet. ...just my humble opinion.
The wheelbase on the current car is 4 FEET longer than this 312. 98" vs 146". This is also why Monaco is a parade now, the cars barely fit on their own. Even up through the mid 1990s they were only 110-114" wheelbase cars. Would be nice to go back to that...
Loved to see someone actually driving these vintage cars as they where ment to be driven. Niki took his hat off for this one for sure. Fuerza Ferrari, Fuerza Charles!
Watching the historic at weekend was amazing. As a Scot seeing Jim Clark’s lotus and so on in the parc ferme then seeing it race was special. The sound of the 70s and 80s cars was fabulous
...when? Can you actually name a Monaco GP that had exciting racing (As in, overtakes and wheel to wheel action) that wasn't wet? No, you can't, you're talking out of your ass. Monaco has literally always been shit for on track racing.. Wheel to wheel action didn't exist until the 70s, it was too dangerous to make dangerous overtake moves so the vast majority of the time overtakes happened when the other person crashed, had a mechanical failure, or you simply outpaced them down a straight. And once the 70s rolled around, cars were already too fast for Monaco. And in the 90s the cars were wider then they are now. Racing at Monaco has literally been trash since day one, stop pretending the size of the cars has anything to do with it. The only good Monaco races are wet ones. Want proof size doesn't matter? Formula E cars are awesome around Monaco, and they're basically as wide and long as F1 cars. If size mattered at all, Formula E wouldn't have banger on track action around the exact same track.
I can def hear him downshift, i think it's because he carried way too much speed and lost the car on mid-entry. Maybe there's another reason, but my guess seems most realistic for me.
@@alizia6522 So he lost brakes and passes the Pitbox entry because the brakes would heal themselves? common dont believe everything you read on twitter
Just no. The reason is, that the left front brake failed - so which of the brakes did still work? Rears and front right - so what happens if you then step on the brakes? Well, it veers to the right!
Funny considering In the 90’s they had abs tc and active suspension 😂😂😂and you’re acting like Charles drives this car everyday. Trust me with some practice these dude could easily drive these things you old farts act like you guys were so good back then 😂
the fact that everybody gonna remember this incident in the far future is gonna be legendary.. Your career always must be remembered and replayed in the future.. Bummer for clerc
I dont think lots of ppl will remember this side show... not many saw it to start... its only a sideshow... who cares its not surprising he didnt practice with this car hours on safe pavement...
@belledorris1973 You've never watched American football then. Miss a pass and 40 years later that will be your only legacy is what you could have done
Вообще-то нет, сама машина Лауды 74года, а ведет её Леклер, это было недавно, обрати внимание на первых кадрах, стоит желтый ниссан, машина безопасности, таких точно небыло в 70тых
