I am old school but God the internet is awesome at the same time a double edged sword. Benefits for are holding up but the negatives are breaking through, God Bless and thank you for the great detailed content. First time ebike owner just received the lectric xp 2.0, 74 yr grandpa not in the best of health but I am fed up with the Covid crap and I am getting out with my grandkids. Ebikes are a great option to help motivate people to get out again. Grew up living the outdoors, surfing, dirt bikes, fishing, hunting, shooting, long time diver, I have woke in my golden years nothing will stop me.

The wrench you bought is called combination wrench and has an open end and box end. What you keep calling a Cresent wrench is an adjustable wrench. Thanks for the video. Not owning a ebike never even thought of patching a tube without taking the wheel off the frame. Im never to old to learn more efficient was to do things.

Thanks for letting me know about the naming of the wrenches. As you can tell, I’m learning as I go and I appreciate you taking the time to educate me in the comments. It’s the first I’ve heard the term combination wrench and honestly wondered if it had a specific name.

I had a flat on my Lectric XP with the first 100 miles or so. I went to Walmart and bought a 16 oz bottle of green slime and put 8 oz. in each tire. Put the air back in the tire and no more flats. I now have 3500 miles plus on the bike and never need to patch a tire again so far.

I have recently gone through a similar exercise but was struck at the final step of putting the rear wheel back on the frame. The reason is that there isn’t any room to fit it in as the fender blocks the way. After watching what you have done, I realise that the tyre should be inflated after installing the wheel as this gives much more room to fit the wheel in if the tyre is deflated. Thank you for sharing. Much appreciated. 🙏

Got my first flat tire on the Lectric xp , I knew it was going to happen at one point and it did 3 miles from my house. Now I could have called for help ( wife , friend , taxi ) but I walked my bike all the way home in walk mode all the way home , I was pretty much stranded but glad the bike has walk mode for emergency purpose, I will watch your video to help me repair the flat . p.s no damage done to rim or tire . maybe lucky. lift over curbs. 600 miles, first flat!
@EbikeProducts
@EbikeProducts 3 года назад
Sorry to hear about your flat and especially having to walk home. I carry zip ties and velcro straps long enough to be able to tighten the tire to the rim if it ever gets flat and I need to walk it. I hear that the rear tire can become so loose when you get a flat that it makes it almost impossible to walk the bike. Sounds like your tire was able to stay on for 3 long miles, that's great. Walk mode can definitely be a great thing to help move a 60 pound ebike. Hope your tire fix goes well.

Hi, Thanks for the video. I’ve got a slow leak in my hyper e-bike’s front tire. I use a Ryobi battery powered hand held inflator. I love it. It has a bit in gauge so as you inflate a tire, you get a reading in psi. Just be sure to remove the fully charged battery, place the battery in the plastic bag it came in and wrap the open side excess plastic material around the terminal end of the battery pack. Sealing the terminals from the air will maintain the charge for over a year. Thank you for your video. Stay well

The way I find holes in tubes, is to fill a bathtub with enough water to submerge it, and put the whole tube in there. Just in case you have multiple holes. It's a lot of effort getting that tube and tire off the rim. Great video 😊

Jetech 18mm Ratcheting Combination Wrench should work, slip over power wire then loosen nut. As others have mentioned, add some dish soap to water.... it will bubble at the hole in the tube making it easier to find. I've added slim as well as Tire Liners... they are costly but saves the issue of flats when you are out on your ride. Thanks for the video....enjoy your ride!

Great video as your usual.... Only suggestion....after the repair, I suggest doing a normal pressure inflation and then release all the air. Then reflate. In case the tube has a slight twist, the 2x inflation will straighten out any odd set the tube might taken during assembly. It will run true after this. Some tube types might require additional air cycles to get the tube seating correctly.
@EbikeProducts
@EbikeProducts 3 года назад
GREAT Suggestion! I really appreciate when viewers give tips like that one. I will definitely remember that in the future as I can see how that can be helpful in removing the twist which can cause issues.

@EbikeProducts 2 года назад
Oh man! Sorry to hear about your flat tire. Do you know what caused the flat? If it’s a thorn or something small. You might get away with an easy fix of just adding sealant. Check out one of my latest videos on using Flat-out. I’ve had 2 new bikes get flats on their first rides, and a total of 5 flats in the last 2 years so I am adding flat-out sealant to every new ebike before I even ride them for the first time.

Great video and instructions! BUT, if you're a bit of a novice, beware the problems associated with removing the rear wheel. SOME bikes, though similar, can be a BIG problem when it comes to both removing and reinstalling this wheel. (The derailleur guard sometimes has other attachments like the carrier arm and mud guard arm.). Some are jammed really tight and a BIG job to get back in place. Then there is the associated rear brake problem because of the tight fit. Good luck to all.

Got my first flat on the XP ST. It was on the back tire. Checked google maps for the nearest bike shop. Called to make sure they can fix e-bike flat tires, Called an Uber. Folded the bike and placed it in his trunk. 30 minutes later I was back on the road. But thanks for the video. I will gather the necessary tools to apply if it happens again. Two things (1) how do you feel about sliming tires and (2) I was told to rotate tires as the back usually takes a licking more than the front. So it makes a bit of sense if you are taking off the back, might as well put the front on the back rim and vice versa.

I have a similar bike. Same size tire. Some places I have gone are filled with big thorns. If I fixed each one like this it would take forever. Instead of patching, I use Fix-a-flat ($12). Green slime for bikes works too. I carry a can (FAF) with me. It inserts slime (hole patch) and air to fill the tire. You must ride for a while to spread the stuff around inside the tube. You might want to check air pressure after you get home. Literally dozens of holes fixed in one outing. No need to remove tire. Very quick and easy fix for small holes. I watched this video to replace the rear tire due to being worn down to no tread.

Excellent video and just in time. I just got my XP 3.0 and the rear tire was flat right out of the box! It will not take air and inflate so I think I have a leaky inner tube for sure. I thought Lectric included the 'Slime' product in their tires?? I was lamenting because there are NO bike repair shops in my area and I am partially disabled 73 years old and NOT a wrench turner. Your video has given me much hope that I can do this by myself even as weak as I am. (I have a hard time maneuvering the bike upside down etc). Looking forward to more of your videos. Thank you. One more thing. I noticed you did not address any torque specs for the nuts etc on the bike. (or did I miss that) I noticed in the manual that it was recommended to torque all nuts and bolts/screws? Just wondering.

I think the first 18mm wrench you used from your bike tool kit was a thin cone wrench for adjusting old style bearings, they are too delicate for removing wheel nuts. too bad because that would be a light wrench to carry on a ride. patching the tube w/o removing the wheel from the frame is brilliant, i'm going to try that next time!

Thanks for this video, mane. You've helped me TWICE NOW! First time, almost a month ago I got my first flat. Now this second flat I fixed it, but I also wanted to change the brake pads. From your vid, I noticed that I'm missing a washer from the back tire's disk brake side (the inner most washer) and it's throwing off my disk alignment. SMH. I just wanna get back on the roads already... 😢😓😔 (I think I'll contact Lectric to see if I need to order another or if I can pick one up from somewhere.

I have made hundreds of flat repairs on bikes over the years. One thing is missing on your repair. It is imperative that you take your fingers on the inside of the tire and search for any thorns, or nails that are possible still imbedded in the tire. Rotate the tire carefully with fingers inside the tire. Thorns can hide inside the rubber of the tire and all sharp objects need to removed from the tire, otherwise you will just puncture the tube again when you inflate.

Nice video. Here’s a big suggestion. Switch to tubeless tires. Hopefully the Lectric rim can handle that conversion. I have about 2,300 kn on my Turbo Levo, no flats. I have taken some goat heads on trail but the protection worked every time. I used to get flats like that all the time when I was riding my old bike. With a run flat I travel with CO2 cartridges to inflate, and repair plugs like we would use on a car for huge holes. The only failure I would be unable to repair is a sidewall tear from a rock or root. But that’s the same risk as with a tubed tire. Also, a mid-drive would further simplify the process. Everything has trade offs! My concern in my town is that I don’t think any of the bike shops will work on a 3rd party main order ebike.

Curious why you chose to patch instead of using slime to repair the tube?
@EbikeProducts
@EbikeProducts 3 года назад
There are a few of reasons that may actually be laughable. 1. First and foremost, I had slime on my Christmas list and hoped that I would get it for Christmas. My family shops on each others amazon wish lists and it was a less costly gift that I thought for sure someone might get for me. I didn't want to make anyone feel bad if they saw I got it and they had already bought it for me too. 2. I already had the patch kit since it came with my Bikehand tool kit, so I thought I might as well use it since the hole was small and would be easily sealed with a patch. 3. Slime can be messy and there have been instances where people have said it either didn't work and left a mess all over, or it gave them a lot off difficulty where they couldn't squeeze the stuff in. I know a lot of people swear by it, but I felt the patch would be easier, cleaner, and more guaranteed at the time as well. Thanks for the question and for watching the video!

Others have had one heck of a time getting the rear wheel back on due to the clamping pressure from the frame. Some have made devices to spread the frame. I wonder if Lectric make production changes to the rear fork of the frame. Its was extremely tight, so much so others called it a design flaw calling it an on the road tire change nightmare. Yours tire seem to fall into place without much effort. Did you find it easy to reinstall the rear wheel.
@EbikeProducts
@EbikeProducts 3 года назад
I had no issues at all with putting the rear wheel back on. It practically 'dropped' right in place. I have a feeling the Lectric Step-Through was designed with a wider frame spread. I was afraid I was going to have issues after seeing the same videos and comments about the difficulty others had getting the rear wheel back on. I was less worried since I was doing the repair at home and I knew use a technique I heard from Jeremiah' youtube video that I could spread the frame using the bed of my truck and ratchet straps to pull it apart if I ran into trouble. More recent videos of the regular Lectric (non step-through) also seem easier to back the rear wheel so maybe even those ebike versions have been modified to fit better. Thanks for the comment!

@EbikeProducts
@EbikeProducts 3 года назад
I am still on the fence on tubeless. I've done a lot of research but I am leaning toward getting Tannus liners so I won't have to deal with flats altogether. I've seen that tubeless can also be messy and it helps to have a fast air pump. At the moment, Tannus does not have the liner sizes I need for the Lectric XP, and they don't make a 24" for the Blackbird I ordered (that is should be coming soon). I think my biggest concern is that I would be less likely to be able to fix a flat 'in the field' with a tubeless setup and my wife would have to come get me with the truck. We'll see though, Tannus liners are expensive and I am not sure I want to buy a bigger size to cut them down. Let me know if you convert to tubeless. Thanks as always for the kind words and support!

Sorry to hear about the flat. The front has a 15mm nut on it which is a lot more common and is easily accessible and can use anything from a 15mm molded wrench, an adjustable wrench, or even a socket wrench. I think it would have been nice if they used the same 18mm nut as the rear wheel so we wouldn't need an extra tool to do work on the wheels, but at least its a more common wrench that is in most people's sets (unlike the hard to fine 18mm for the rear).

Run a socket over the wire, near where ratchet fits in there is usually an hex nut shape that you can use a standard wrench to turn, because of the extra length of the socket you are past the derailer guard 👍 ratchet set usually include long spark plug sockets you need 11/16th 18 mm

Wondering what size spoke wrench is needed on an electrics bike?
@EbikeProducts
@EbikeProducts 3 года назад
Good question! There are different size spokes that will need different size wrenches. Typically, the larger the spokes (which most ebikes will have larger spokes than regular bikes) the stronger they will be to withstand the speed and pressure that is put on them from the added weight of the ebikes. Also, depending on what the ebike's manufacturer 'thinks' the type of riding might be done (off-road vs on road commuting) they will often increase the size of the spokes to match how strong they think it needs to be. Of course, be sure to do your due diligence and look at reviews to see if it is a common issue that could be occurring with a brand you may be looking at to purchase. Lastly, there are a lot of cool and inexpensive spoke wrenches on amazon. Here is a link that will take you to the amazon webpage with spoke wrenches ebikeproducts.com/spokewrenches (full disclosure: this is an affiliate link) you can get a good idea of an assortment of spoke wrenches that you might consider. I personally have not touched my spokes yet, but will definitely need to check them in the near future as I have not done it yet since getting the Lectric XP. Thanks for watching and for the great question!

What is your opinion on tubeless tires for the electric bike.
@agm6095
@agm6095 3 года назад
Great tutorial video, thank you. My wife and I each have Lectric bikes so this is a great video. Using an adjustable wrench such as a "Crescent" brand is never as good as a wrench made for the specific size, because the adjustable wrenches usually have slight "play" and they don't hold as good as a single size wrench and the cheaper the wrench the more play they have. Would it be a good idea before getting any flats to put "Slime" in the tube to prevent small punctures?
@EbikeProducts
@EbikeProducts 3 года назад
After getting a flat from such a small hole, I definitely think its a good idea to put slime in the tube now. I was a little reluctant to add slime after reading that some people had their tube's valve get ruined when they added the slime. It doesn't happen often and now I think its totally worth the risk as it is inconvenient to have to fix a flat. Knowing how tight they make the nuts on the rear wheels, I'd never want to use an adjustable wrench and take a chance that the little 'play' could strip or damage the nut. I'm going to buy an extra 18mm wrench just to carry around in my emergency kit now. Thanks for commenting!

Just a little tip. Before you take out the pin or nail out of the tire. A good idea would be to place a piece of tape on the tire rim to show the spot on the tire where you took out the pin or nail. Cause after when you turned the wheel you lost where the hole was. If you had piece of tape to give a guide where the pin was taken out from and may have been easier to find the hole to patch it.

Thanks for the video, very helpful. Is it possible to remove the derailer guard so you can get a boxend wrench on the main shaft nut?
@EbikeProducts
@EbikeProducts 3 года назад
Yes, I believe you can. I was going to do that at one point but when I saw I had to remove the black nut cap, I decided it wasn't worth the effort (however small the effort would have been). The cap has some really small holes that are tight to squeeze (and at an angle) the end connector through and felt I wouldn't want to worry about bending pins putting it back on. You could most likely get a boxend wrench to work easily even with the derailleur guard on if you take that cap off. Now that I think about it, maybe I could've slid the black cap over while the connectors were still together to keep all the pins connected then reverse the process when I was done. Mmmm. I plan to change out the freewheel soon (I already got the part) so I will try it then, It may be a SUPER helpful tip for all Lectric XP ebike owners if it works. Thanks for the comment!
