So I bit the bullet and pre orderd the new Lectrosoncis DCR822 and this is the second in a series of videos I'm launching that will ultimately assemble what I call a complete Lectrosonics DCR822 field review. I used the unit for two full days on a film set with all the RF ugliness that comes in that type of envrionment. In this live stream I speak about my experience with it on set in a casual live stream setting with Q&A.

Thank you, Michael, for this first impression overview of the DCR822. A few comments: first, the cost of the 822 is less than the cost of 2x UCR411a at current pricing, and, the 411a is still in production. Regarding the microSD card cover - the top panel of the receiver is getting a design tweak to improve that issue. Regarding Alejandro's question about the limit for the microSD card: SDHC type is required, and the limit is 32 GB. RE: the question about output latency - it is 1.2 mS from analog in to analog out with a digital transmitter, and about 2.2 ms with a Hybrid transmitter. RE: Lloyd's & Dan's questions about Talkback - Michael is correct that a transmitter with TB is required (LT, HHa, LMb, DBu, DHu) - and yes, you can use the AES outputs to route the TB audio to an unused audio channel. RE: Frequency Diversity - when you have it set to "Calibrate" it inverts the polarity of channel 2 so you can adjust gain of the transmitters until they match and you hear the audio null. Then, "Operate" puts the 2nd channel back into normal polarity, so that the output of the two receivers is a blend of the audio of both channels. RE: stereo transmitters like DCHT and M2T (Duet system), and, the DCHT does have mic inputs and bias power for lav mics.

Thank you Lectrosonics for taking the time to answer all these questions! Really enjoying the DCR822!

On another note guys do you have any official recommendation regarding lithium AA rechargeable’s? I was told by a dealer and a couple other mixers in the community it wasn’t safe, but I was curious if you guys had any official recommendations

@@MichaelWynneCAS The earlier LiPo rechargeables we tested were no better than the NiMh batteries of the time, in terms of run time. More recently, the LiPo AAs we tested were consistent, and provided run times of 10 to 20% better than comparable NiMh batteries. We're not aware of any reasons they shouldn't be used on our transmitters and receivers.

I had the chance to test it few weeks ago in my shop and I can tell the RF is rock solid and the range is amazing ! Specially in houses ( And my company is in a Brittany house in France with 80 cm (31") granite wall !)

Awesome video and thanks for making it. Just to correct you on a slight point. The DCHT can indeed accommodate lavs, and you can even plug in two lavs into one unit!

Thank you Bal! Regarding the two mic mic inputs that’s pretty slick I can see some uses for that especially for someone who might be whispering and screaming or possibly a boom op send with a second input for private coms.

Does anyone know if the DCR822 is compatible with Senn G3s?
@MichaelWynneCAS
@MichaelWynneCAS Год назад
Hi Miguel, Only the digital hybrid receivers will work with the G3’s in what I believe is Mode 3

Hi Michael interested to hear your thoughts on the RF performance of the 822 vs an SRc. I did a walk test with both the 822 and an SRc tuned into the same SMQV and found the range almost identical. Does the superior performance only really kick in when you use a digital TX? Cheers! Peter

@MichaelWynneCAS 2 года назад
Hi Peter, I’ve had some time with the unit after making this vid and fortunately also have the SRC’s. My range tests are same as yours. However, I think the primary advantages of the 822 are digital compatibility, full frequency spectrum tuning and a more robust front end basically giving you two RF receivers per channel. I think on film sets most of are RF challenges are not so much range driven as they are sometimes high RF noise floor in a compact space.

Can you set your RX 1 off and RX 2 ON, Let me know if you hear a squelch, I did every 2-5min on the the RX 1 channel when it was off. Not sure why, however if I have both on or RX 1 on and RX 2 off works fine no squelch on the RX 2 that’s off.

You may a found something that may need to be worked out in a future firmware update Xenesy. Are you saying that your hearing a squelch on your Ch2 audio output when Ch1 is off? I'll test mine and let you know.

@@MichaelWynneCAS I’m hearing the squelch on channel 1 when it’s off and channel 2 is on. I had the transmitter off/on too and the squelch still appears on channel 1 when it was off on receiver and channel 2 is on, let me know if it happened to yours. Thanks.

Hi Xu, I'll be performing some different types of walk tests in the upcoming field test review that are mostly based on multi path performance vs 411a.
