30kW for 40hp Hx..... is that not 100% efficient thermal transfer? 40hp*0.75W/hp = 30kW

Are you still following this? He told what max power of the heat exchanger is. 40hp motor won't produce 30kW of heat because heat is side product of friction and other causes. So 40hp motor will probably produce a few kW or less of unwanted heat. I'm trained for electrical systems where they tend to use water/hose analogues to explain current flow. They should talk about molten salt reactors a lot more because they are future of energy production.

Is bedrock a viable medium for heat storage? Or too lossey?

It is not because layers are not in wanted shape or thermally insulated, so yes, very lossy. Getting systems in is another problem. Good materials to do it are salts, water, production of hydrogen or other energy dense materials.

Why not try a gas core reactor? (GAS FUELED CORE) It seems safe just put it under a little pressur to be critical if theres an emergency just lower the pressure.

wait you mean nuclear fuel as gas fuel?
