In this lecture, curators Rita Gonzalez and Jose Luis Blondet, along with curatorial assistant Caitlin Spencer, discuss Afro-Atlantic Histories, which charts the transatlantic slave trade and its legacies in the African diaspora. Through a series of dialogues across time, the exhibition features artworks produced in Africa, Europe, and the Americas in the last four centuries to reexamine-from a global perspective-histories and stories of enslavement, resilience, and the struggle for liberation.
Evenings for Educators is a professional development program for K-12 teachers focusing on LACMA's permanent collection and special exhibitions. Each session presents strategies for incorporating the visual arts into the classroom with activities that explore the artistic process, approach works of art as primary sources, and emphasize parallels between the visual arts and core content areas.
