This is a Rain LED circuit using a NE555 and a CD4017. I have divided this circuit into two parts, the first with NE555 generates an (adjustable) frequency which issent to the CD4017 (Pin 3 NE555 to Pin 14 CD4017) The second part of the circuit, with CD4017, manages the LEDs, making them run at a speed set by the frequency that I just told you about (from NE555). LED speed can be adjusted by a 47KΩ trimmer... and in this second version I added some electrolytic capacitors to create a small bright trail effect.
Components:
- 1x NE555 IC
- 1x CD4017 IC
- 1x 330Ω Resistor 1/4 Watt
- 2x 1KΩ Resistor 1/4 Watt
- 1x 47KΩ Trimmer
- 1x 1uF @25/50/100V Electrolytic Capacitor
- 10x 4.7uF @25/50/100V Electrolytic Capacitor
- 1x 8 pin DIP (not mandatory if you solder the IC on PCB)
- 1x 16 pin DIP (not mandatory if you solder the IC on PCB)
- 20x LED 5mm (any color)
- 1x LED 3mm (PWR LED)
- 1x 1N4007 Diode (protection against polarity reversal)
- PCB: (Ready for jlcpcb.com): drive.google.com/file/d/1bhec...
*Don't use my PCB for profit or sponsored videos.
This circuit must be powered with 5~9V DC or via USB
Do you want to power these LEDs via USB?

I will order these PCBs also. Stephano, I had suggested a few weeks ago a bar graph driven by a linear Hall Effect sensor. The closer the magnet is to the sensor, the appropriate LED lights up, depending on the analog signal sent to the LM3914. Have you made any progress on that circuit yet?

How can I make the trailing effect longer? Higher value of capacitor?
@Stefano91ste
@Stefano91ste 2 года назад
Hi, I'm working on it, but some power transistors will definitely need to be added, because the CD4017 outputs cannot charge high capacity capacitors.

Wow! Stefano that's a quality looking pcb. I like those chrome posts and the high quality trimmer. Where do you buy such quality?

Thank you! I buy my components on internet like LCSC, banggood, amazon and aliexpress, but also local shops and fairs.

Hi Stefano! I really like your projects and I would like to order some pcbs from JLC PCB, but I am worried I might have to pay extra taxes for costum duties (I am from Italy). Can you give me some suggestions?
@Stefano91ste
@Stefano91ste 2 года назад
Unfortunately, from July 2021 the Italian customs decided to tax any shipment coming from outside the EU, and no longer just packages with declared value greater than 22 € - I have not yet found a working solution, even in my case that PCBs are sent as "free samples" I am charged, upon delivery by DHL, 5 € for customs clearance and another 2 € around VAT (not better defined). I know that Banggood uses a shipment through which they clear customs in Belgium and then from there the package is sent back to Italy thus avoiding customs taxes, but JLCPCB does not use these methods.

@Stefano91ste
@Stefano91ste 2 года назад
@Stefano91ste
@Stefano91ste 2 года назад

Hi Connor, nice to hear from you :) For various reasons, including several fake copyright warnings sent by fraudulent record companies (which I disputed and won) on my videos with VEXENTO's free copyright music, which caused a bad drop in views to my videos, I took a break from RU-vid. Unfortunately it's bad to work several hours to make a video and then see it hardly reach 2000 views on a channel with 50K subscribers :(
