I tried uvb tubes from sunbeds as suppliment in the mid 80's with good results, it's not a new idea. Inspired by the fact that high grown mountain weed was usually the best.
Man thank you for your UV videos. I can certainly confirm that uvb works great for extra potency, smell and colour of fruits and flowers. Makes strawberries sweeter and kills bugs for example. I wish you could do a 110-120cm long uv light like a dual bulb setup something that will fit between the bars of 120x120 lights like the Lumatek 600w fixtures.
Gotta be careful with just thinking I'll add another because you can really hurt yourself growing and your skin. He suggests this 2 footer for a reason. You can't just add what you want with the frame of mind that it will just double up gains. If that were true he wouldn't say run for 2 hours day for last 3 week's flower. There is another bulb that will definitely do what your asking for but contact me off his sire because I'm not gonna do anything to hurt Shane's buisness, he has the right to market his fixture and it is a great product also great buy I have been responsible for selling many lights for him I just don't put it out there nor do I ask Shane to compensate me. I'm involved with several chat sessions with several cannabis hero's, expert's, and growers commercial and home and I'll stand up for his work any day of the week.
Thanks for making this video. Not even the manufacturer's tell us how much photons these new uva LEDs have. Thanks for giving us the facts I've learned alot from you on this channel
I currently use UV-b & a t5's during flower for very brief intervals during the lights on cycle (different brand though) The downside to repeated on and off of fluorescent bulbs is that they burn out quicker vs leaving them on for long periods. The intensity is no joke though, even with my little 24 watt jobbies. Tested the bulbs when i first got them, turned them on let em warm up,3 ft distance for about 4 min, next day my face and neck and forearms were fried. Less like an actual sunburn and more like true radiation burns with instant scabbing. So just a heads up, use caution around them when they're on and definitely wear sunglasses
I don’t think I could live if this channel ever went down, A wealth of knowledge in every aspect of grow lights, Shane you’re my hero the most dedicated guy around keeping us all up to date & 💯 informed 👌🏽♥️ I need to ask you a question about 2 of my 3 lights that have broken use but would prefer to keep it out of public it’s a big light manufacturer I don’t want any hassle from them just advice what I should do if possible please? Who sells the best UV-B fluorescents? And how cheap is cheap? Who sells UV-B fluorescents that start around 280nm Any help appreciated.
Just did my first harvest with your uv light, I love it! Ive done strawberry sorbet probably 4 or 5 times now and this was by far the funkiest smelling crop.
@@dantebarbero1828 I have no personal experience with using uv in a grow but I have looked into it and I'm pretty sure you use it over certain times of the day in short periods(like a couple of minutes per half an hour or something). And you start with even less to harden you plant to get it used to uvb. You have to know that it's some aggressive radiation that can seriously fuck up your plant and your skin.. So use sparingly
I own the migro uvb, it is a great fixture. My bulb recently went out so I need to order another bulb but overall a great fixture. Thanks for all the great info Shane and outstanding products
I've been using the 2' UVB florescent since the day the first orders went out, I bought it same day that you put them up for sale on your migro we bpage. I'm finishing my 5th run all 8-9 week flowers and I use it exactly how you told us to use it, 2 hrs day mid 12 HR cycle last 3 week's. Haven't had any issues. I am ordering a replacement bulb to have on hand tonight.
@@samaarons9528 yes, I have more light logged in since before trying most light schedules, now I’m 24/7 in veg and cut the veg time by half, also 12/12 during flower, my data shows an increase at the next grow with these changes and just keeps climbing, watching steady perfection increase is rewarding, I’m now getting 35 % more on any measure, this is not talent it’s just holding what you dial in and seeing the result is kinda what you want in every grow. Right now I’m not going to mess with it, and get this I hand water twice a day, like fatten a puppy you can see your girls belly up.
@@1TheWhiteKnight1 yes, from the get go, right from my next grow because my friend was doing so much better and easier and each grow he did he was just better, my next grow I increase light and shorten the veg stage drastically and I got 35+ % results in weight, I used to get 580/grams on 5 plants, but my next grow I got 800+ grams. Today, I can get two pounds on six plants. The plants I grow are 11 Roses, Crown Royale, and Sugar Black Rose, all are oil heavy plants and just think I only have a dozen grows under me indoors.
Daylight maxibright have a 60w led bar but havent used it lumatek also have a 30w one coming soon maybe they will send you one to test also a supplement 100w led bar too maybe something else for you to play with.
I’d like to see this compared to a 10000k finishing bulb, mh/hps ether 400, 600 or even 1000 watt one. Would love to see them readings on that. Because if your bulb matched up to that it would be a no brainer.
Yeeess!! Master Shane thank you for sharing more valuable knowledge, no kidding your videos are the best what I have learned made me a much better grower yeahh!! Thanks again👍🤙💭😎
I can't help but notice how casual Shane is about being around both these lights while they are running, often turning around and letting them shine into his eyes. Are these lights not as dangerous to us as they are made out to be? I have the California Lightworks UVBs. They are made in China, and the plugs fit the fixtures so loosely that simply brushing against them breaks the connection. I received emails regularly from CLW, promoting their products. When I mentioned the poor quality of their fixtures, I never heard from them again. I don't bother to use them much, because the difference they make in the plants is minimal at best.
They are not as dangerous as uvc, but they are still dangerous in long term to your eye and skin, brother. Use protection to skin and eyes especially as you cannot replace those easily ha.
These lights are uva.. the migro is 310nm - uvb starts at 285nm-315nm , uva from 315nm-400ish. Uva is abundant outside, so the spectrum in both of these lights is relatively safe.. granted the florescent t8 light could give you a tan if kept close enough. The California lightworks bulbs are t5 75% uvb 25% uva with a spectrum comparable to agromax pure uvb. I use a combination of agromax bulbs : uva+, pure veg+ uv & pure uvb all in 48" and I have the 2' California lightworks uvb system... for the price California lightworks sucks, it's potent but the coverage sucks. Better off with 4' either Agromax, EyeHortilux, Migro, Phillips or ( Solacure which I lump with California lightworks) because they have built in reflectors inside the bulb that lowers the uv penetration.. Shane covered this issue in another video where he tested them all.
We all knew that, it was tested and proven on icmag in 2013, i got skunkman sam and everyone finally to listen when i talked about it on hash church 8-9 years ago. It was all proven on icmag 2013, with the arcadia T5 uvb bulb, i shared it for years, and talked about it all year here, few people listen heh.
@@bremlquan uva doesn’t produce the necessary spectrum to promote oils to protect the plants for the sun. Just like you skin. Uva can barely tan you where uvb will burn you. That’s what you want
long life to the UV fluorescent lamps !!! The current UV leds are commercial gadgets, but they have the merit to be placed in the same place as the main lamp. The fluorescent lamp is placed on top and bakes the cables.
I love that its more efficient but bulbs over the canopy scare me, if it breaks often you have toxic stuff dusted all over your harvest, blowing around by fans not to mention the glass shards I really wish there was a comparable LED version, but it makes sense based on your tests why you went this route, hope by now or soon the tech will be there to be comparable thanks for the knowledge. Maybe an updated test with newer products or your own designs soon
I’m running 2 Migro UV lights in my 5 x 5 tent, I only grow for the oil because I don’t smoke, but I make a paste( no filtering of particulate matter) and almost no alcohol by volume, equal amount glycerin for years and soon as I added the Migro UV my oil increased because of a noticeable bud size increase 30%, a noticeable increase. I use 4” rock wool cube on 9” slabs and feed with Mantis Buffered Nutrients with the Migro 600 lights over the lot in a high C02 environment during flower and I’m so happy with it all.
@@doveseye.4666 Im doing the same whit no UV, how much gr per plant do u harvest? im doing 500gr pero plant with CO2 (1100ppm max) in a 2.40x1.20m tent with 1500w Samsung LM301h + HyperRed + FarRed
UVA LED bars are still good and do make plants produce more trichomes. You can actually run UVA lights longer than UVB lights and it won’t damage the plants. UVA is not deep blue
I get a year out of UV leds before the color visibly shifts(I don't have and won't have a sensor) and under 2 before they fry. I use whatever is the highest quality UV led at the time of ordering and order batches of 20 and solder them myself. Probably not going to replace them next time they burn out. Was running reef tank floros for a decade because it made the plants purple and everyone wanted purple product for a while there. UV = purple city anthocyanins
Great information. IDNK some Infra red LEDs are prone to burnout. (This channel has a scam artist using your logo sayin text me to claim a gift. ). I’ve seen the same thing on other channels. Scam
Hi Shane is there any chance you could do a video on the new Lumii Black 720W LED fixture please, it seems pretty unique in that it uses a normal digital ballast to power it but there's hardly any information on it available?
Hi Shane / @migrolight , i saw you recommend only 2 hours of UVB with the Migro UVB Flourescent right?, and For example Lumatek indicates that their UVb+UVA bars should be used for 12 hours, same as the regular light. Does the longer time exposure of the LED light compensate with the quick and hard exposure to UVB from the flourescent? Thanks!
i wouldnt buy anything for Cal. Lightworks. The fact that this guy shamelessly tells lies is enough for me. There are more than 1 good studies out there that prove that UV has zero effects on CBD and THC, still this grandpa rambles about 20-25% more THC from his UV-fixtures. Dont pay this guy for his attitude. Too bad people are lazy and want all facts presented to them in form of a short but entertaining video.
Thank you for the service you provide for growers, Shane! I have a Maxsisun MF1000 that I am considering using in my seedling room. If I turn the intensity down to 10%, what would be a "safe" minimum distance above the germination dome to set the light? The manufacturer directed me to their reference chart, but they wouldn't touch the "intensity-vs-distance" question. What's your thoughts?
Justintime2grow did a review on the MF1000. Set at 16" (40cm) above canopy it virtually read approximately 50 par at 10%, 100 par at 20%, 250 par at 50%...it seemed to be 50 par for every 10%. Video is still on his channel if you'd like to take a look
My man, Tony Montana....lol.....love the vids, just throwin a comment down showing some love. Your gonna have to send me a UVB 310 to Detroit here in a hot min..... I just blew all my money on two budget Bestva 2000W DC series LEDS at the moment or I'd call you rite now.....idk, its 3:46AM....lol.... I bought one, then the other light a month later when I had extra loot. New to all this and can't afford the 1000$$$ dollar light I want.
I may be wrong, but i read somewhere that if you include the UV sooner, the plant's defenses will have more time to get used to the UV and they won't necessarily create more resin. Apparently they will create the same amount of resin and trichomes as if the UV is introduced in the last 2 weeks, but the process is slower and stretched over more weeks. And the plant will grow slower because it's dealing with a mild form of stress from UV. I guess it would be better for the plant generally speaking, but you may not get the desired results (worth the try though) One good thing i imagine the trichomes will have more time to mature and become milky. In the last 2 weeks new trichomes could be only clear. Just keep in mind that the blue/violet spectrum in UV also produces a more compactness, so the buds could be smaller but more dense.
@@twentytwo138 thanks for the reply my man. Interesting theory, sounds plausible. I'd love to see more stuff on it but it's hard to find. Any chance you can remember the source where you read it? The more info the better
I have this mammoth 48" uva-b light bar. I have yet to try it out. Yeah it's been sitting here on a shelf for far to long. Ty for the video, and reminding me that I need to get her hooked up. Also I realize the coverage won't be great in a 7x7x8' room. However if I hang it high a let it fly - will I still get some benefits of the benefits?
Sure you will get benefits, but you'll have to raise it higher than the main lights which will create a shadow and block some of the UV. And the further the UV is, the longer it needs to be on. And they say that even if only a part of the plant is hit with UV, the defense mechanism for creating more resin will trigger throughout the whole plant. I don't know the coverage of your UV bar, but maybe you could do only half the tent with UV, that way you will get full benefits on one side at least, rather than barely any benefits in the whole tent. And it's a good chance for you to test it directly, see the difference between the UV and non-UV buds :)
@@MrBlueYoMind it's not hype! From my own personal experience I used the one bar over part of the grow 😁. The flower under it seemed to have more trichrome production. I ran it for 1-3 hrs a day. I'm looking into adding 3 more bars in my space. However there kind of expensive, and if I went with mammoth led, it would break the bank. Looking into other brands now that have similar size bars for half the price.
I never really understand what is the appliance of the UV spectrum on grow light. What kind of development the UV promotes? Within scale of spectrum, the UV is more effective? On my unscientific approach an invisible spectrum that occurs below the blue spectrum ( on a range of 190 up to near 400 ūmol). According to graphics where is the UV spectrum placed by simple logic the UV spectrum should be an extension to the blue spectrum and its utility according to the fact that the UV normally is a spectrum that lead to changes on genetics and it is lethal within large exposure....but my opinion is that the UV spectrum probably is a very effective spectrum for clones and beggining on seedling. Most of the LED brands on the market scarcely present on their performance graphics peaks of UV spectrum...one of the brands that normally presents strong peaks of UV spectrum (radiation) is the line TITAN P by Solux (that have three switches, with full spectrum working, growing switch and blooming switch...so on the growing switch is very noticeable with a COB 30w output the existance of a peak of UV spectrum and my common sense opinion is that the UV is mainly a support for clones, even because I cannot determine what is the Kelvin spectrum colour of an UV spectrum, so a regular grow of 6500 to 4000k is out of the latency of the UV spectrum.
How many hrs do your uvb florescents last and do they also ad some far red and deep red to the mix? Im trying to decide on buying your light over the mars hydro adlite 3 pack
THANKS SHANE!! Random question - does anyone out there in the LED community have access to a UV gel nail lamp (50W) and an apogee UV sensor? I would love to compare the UV exposure levels of 40 mins under the curing lamp vs 40 mins under average sunlight. Thanks! 🥰
@@MIGROLIGHT Thanks for the response. If you have the UV sensor, I'll gladly send you a uv gel nail lamp, let me know if you'd be willing, thanks! I'm super curious
Per quanto la tecnologia led sia avanzata alle mie culture sembra piacere molto di più un arco elettrico. Per capirci con i led tanto volume per carità, ma poca sostanza... I gambi sembrano contenitori vuoti
I got 3 questions In a 120x160cm tent I need 2 right? Is a additional UV-A Lamp useful? I use 3 Hortione 600 and the idea was to put 2 migro UV-B between them and probably also 2 secret Jardin UV-A Lamps if it makes sense. Should I just use it in the last 3 weeks or also already before just with less time?
I have a California light works uvb fluorescent light bar and usually always burns my plants and trichromes.how far should i put my light bar from plants and how many hours a day do i gave the plants uvb fluorescent .what im i doing wrong
Could u please test hortilux led they are going around with these cards to show uv level and the htg hydro light barely lights the card and the hortilux takes the card to the max. It's there card so idk what that means compared to your uv.
I'm curious why they put all the UV-A chips in the light then? Especially if they don't really do much of anything lol. Why they didn't put more chips that actually help with (Oil) production is stupid considering the (Entire) purpose of buying it is to grow more (Greasy) flowers lol.....
I run a fluorescent uvb and if I leave it on longer than two-two minute burst a night, they scorch my leaves. Not sure why but that’s all they can take?
@@neildeakin4454 Mid way between 9am and 9pm is 3pm, so run UV from 2pm to 4pm. That gives you five hours of UV off, two hours of UV on then five hours of UV off.
Hi Shane have you ever tested or know if the 10k MH bulbs produce UVB? I’ve used the 10ks for a while but thinking of switching to your UVB fixture. Thanks
See now this is useful Mark. If you freed yourself from the cult of “PAR” and “efficiency” your other videos would be a lot more helpful imo. The little value you and people like Dr Bugbee put on UVA/deep blue is out dated and surprising considering the ever growing body of evidence that having a significant amount of deep blue/UVA in your spectrum leads to better, healthier plants
I cant watch your videos because of my mental health (Misophonia) The noise you make when your talking, it is like you have dry mouth. I'm interested in what you are talking about but I just can't watch your videos unfortunately because it makes me really agitated and angry if there's anything you can do to solve this it would be highly appreciated
The auto-caption thing is *relatively* accurate in his videos. It might report "center" instead of "sensor," but you should be able to parse everything by the context it's in. If using laptop or desktop computer, begin viewing the video, then press m and c (mute and closed caption enable).
I have a similar condition. Seems like sound quality is not a consideration on half the RU-vid channels. So I always assume it's crap and start with the volume turned down to where it's barely audible and be ready to pause immediately. If it seems OK, I'll turn it up a little at a time. Else I turn off the sound and use CC. I've tried to advocate for better sound quality on some of my favorite channels, but never had any success. As usual, the onus is on us...
Hey Shane, I got a couple of the UVB fixtures for my grow room. I run 2 ChilLED Growcraft x5s. With the wide heatsinks, where would you put the UVA fixtures? My lights normally sit about 20 inches above the canopy.
