This tune is EPIC...that is all I have to say... I was 19 when it came out and love it to this day...................... What a lot of people don't understand is that when we were kids, music didn't sound like this. And all of a sudden, things changed...for the better. Just sayin' that we as kids were pretty much 'dumbstruck' because there was SO MUCH great music all of a sudden, Zeppelin being a fine example.
@geobol7603

So true. Absolutely no music sounded like Zeppelin, even popular “rock music” of the day sounded like pop fluff music compared to them.

Jimmy Page, when he set up the band, having been a studio musician for years before he joined The Yardbirds, knew exactly what he wanted: A guitar driven heavy rock band, with top rhythm section, a frontman who could sing and embody the blues with the charisma for live performances...and playing with light and shade, textures in the music. This song was a great example of the light and shade.....lovely melodic lines done with tenderness and gentleness and then WHAM, the thunder comes in. That’s what makes this band one of the best....because they could do so many styles seamlessly...these four masterful musicians, when they were together, created a fifth element that was greater than the sum of it’s parts. Just start with the first song of album 1 and go through their discography. I couple of other reactors have done this, and it is really the way, now that you’ve been captured by the Zeppelin rabbit hole, to see how they grew and experimented through their 12 year existence. It’s a fun and rewarding trip. Then, of course, you can watch videos from their official videography. And audio from The BBC Sessions....and How The West Was Won....live album. And then there are all the bootlegs out there.....hundreds.....of live shows. The most famous is probably Blueberry Hill. This. Is a long journey, my friend, but few bands are as rewarding as this one to those who decide to take the path...

The thing that happens around the 5:36 mark is one of the most amazing and incredible pieces of vocals ever recorded on any rock record. Guitarists are often described as genius etc, but vocalists have to hone their trade too and they are also musicians. Robert was a genius.

Haven’t read the comments but the singer writes the lyrics, the bass player does arrangements and plays keyboards, the guitarists writes AND produces while the drummer may be the best ever. Their music has light/dark, acoustic/electric, soft/hard, fantasy/reality and masterpieces whether live or on record.

Jimmy used to get on his hands and knees to find the best microphone placement, creating baffles (literally putting the back of a chair over the amp and covering it with blankets) putting the mic inside to capture the best available sound that could be recorded at that time. It was truly an art. These things do not exist today due to the digital age.

I was in my teens when this type of music first came out and I just used to fantasize about sticking my thumb out and traveling around the country. Mostly Southern California where I was raised. I used to always concentrate on that acoustic guitar kicks ass.

"Since I've been loving you," one of greastest songs ever the music is incredible, greatest guitar solo ever also. Blues/Rock as only Zepplin can do. You say greatest band ever well let's see. Greatest drummer, greatest guitar player, one of greatest and most popular singer and John Paul Jones, a writer, bass player, keyboards all around greatness with him too so yes you are correct. Only one band in history has had more fuss made over them when they hit it big and that was the Beatles.
