"Dazed and Confused" is one of Led Zeppelin's most iconic songs, known for its haunting melody, intense lyrics, and innovative musical arrangements. Here are some key details about the song:
Origin: The song was originally written and recorded by American folk singer Jake Holmes in 1967. Jimmy Page, Led Zeppelin's guitarist, adapted the song for the band.
Adaptation: When Led Zeppelin performed it, they significantly reworked the song, adding new lyrics, a new structure, and a different arrangement. Their version is credited to Jimmy Page.
Release Date: "Dazed and Confused" was featured on Led Zeppelin's debut album, "Led Zeppelin," which was released on January 12, 1969.
Genre: The song combines elements of blues, hard rock, and psychedelia.
Length: The album version of the song is about 6 minutes and 26 seconds long.
Instrumentation: The song features a distinctive descending bass line played by John Paul Jones, dynamic drumming by John Bonham, and Jimmy Page's innovative use of the violin bow on his guitar to create eerie, otherworldly sounds. Robert Plant's powerful and emotive vocals are also a highlight.
Influence: The song has been influential in the development of hard rock and heavy metal music. Its heavy riff and dark, moody atmosphere set a precedent for many bands that followed.
Cultural Impact: "Dazed and Confused" is widely regarded as one of Led Zeppelin's greatest songs and has been covered by numerous artists over the years.
Recognition: It is frequently included in lists of the greatest rock songs of all time and remains a favorite among Led Zeppelin fans.
The lyrics of "Dazed and Confused" reflect themes of emotional turmoil and betrayal. They convey a sense of confusion and disorientation, fitting the song's title. Key lines include:
Been dazed and confused for so long it's not true
Wanted a woman, never bargained for you
Lots of people talkin', few of them know
Soul of a woman was created below, yeah
Controversy
Songwriting Credits: The adaptation of Jake Holmes' original song has been a subject of controversy. While Led Zeppelin's version is credited to Jimmy Page, there have been discussions about giving Holmes due credit. Holmes eventually received a settlement from Page, although the details are not publicly disclosed.
"Dazed and Confused" remains a cornerstone of Led Zeppelin's catalog and a testament to their musical innovation and enduring influence on rock music.

Roses are red. Violets are blue. When I listen to led zepplin, my neighbors do too.
@seangardner9884
so awesome that you guys liked it but at same time that you were clearly open minded enough to truly listen to it.
@michaellamb9596
Imagine 4 kids all about 21 yrs old creating music like this today.
@KathleenMcCormickLCSWMPH
Bonham’s drumming on this track is phenomenal.
@aspenward390
You guys are ready for this one.. Since I've Been Loving You (Live at Madison Square Garden 1973)
@chaost4544
John Bonham is the GOAT. His drum fills were insane in this song.

"I'm not just listening to the singer, I'm listening to the band." - Corey Roy... no truer words, were ever spoken.
@ClearlyBlissful
I think you’d enjoy “You Shook Me” by Led Zeppelin. It was a Muddy Waters blues tune, but as Jimmy Page said “we took the blues, twisted it and turned it on its head”.
@paulcwalina7910
One of the mind-blowing things to consider is that Robert Plant was just 20 years-old when recording this and he was writing and singing like a seasoned 60 year-old blues singer from the 30's and 40's.

Check out “Black Dog” by Led Zeppelin. I think you’ll love it.

One of the mightiest of the mighty Led Zeppelin’s tunes.
@InspectorVol
The live version is where this song really shines with Page’s use of a Cello bow on his guitar.
@JDBlain
“In my time of dying” would be a great experience for you guys

Bonzo going nuts on this track. This song live from MSG in 1973 is as visually stimulating as the song itself 😂❤
