Page has always been my favorite guitar player. His technical ability, along with his ability to write songs using a variety of palates and musical landscapes is second to none. There may be more technically proficient players, but his feel and emotive elements are unique and singular. Throw in the other three musicians, and the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts. Something truly magical happened when these guys got together, and they all felt it the first jam at Jimmy's house. "We were the best bloody band in the world" JPJ.
You are so right on, so many people say or think Zep is a heavy metal band! How insulting, they are nothing of the kind. They are a blues band with a very heavy style but they also perform many other types of music. Just look at Zep 3 or In through the Outdoor! Nothing heavy metal about those albums! Page's guitar work on The Rain Song is absolutely tremendous! George Harrison remarked to the band after being invited to a Zep show in Los Angeles that they don't play any ballads. Page and the boys decided to show good old George that they could fucking play anything and make it Epic! I love Physical Grafitti and Zep 1 but man, The Rain Song is just out of this world!!! The House's of The Holy album also has No Quarter which is also tremendous and I wouldn't say a ballad but it should silence any critics about LZ ability to play any style and hit it out of the park! What a fucking band!!!!
The only reason Page could stop playing rhythm and go on these torrid solos was because of the bass in the hands of JPJ. Most other bands would fall apart without the rhythm guitar, but in Zep Jones and Bonham keep it together because they are so good.
Oh man this concert....Celebration day, Black Dog, Since I've been loving you, the rain song, No Quarter, Stairway to heaven, Heart breaker, the 30 minute Dazed and confused version, the 20 minutes Whole lotta love version...it doesn't get anything better than that
The most amazing thing about this concert for me has always been the sheer amount of time that these musical wizards were on stage performing, locked in, at this skill level, to produce this legendary concert which is, to this day, considered one of the best, most amazing concerts of all time. Ever. 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you La and Che outstanding reaction. You guys are absolutely phenomenal. Hold on to your pants the fun has begun. The remaining concert is absolutely mind blowing you will get your face blown off. They are just warmed up now. Keep up the great work gentlemen…
Thank you again friend for requesting this live album. :) I could not wait for them to get to Zep's live material. I know you had discussed finding a link for the boys, the original 1976 album, and I shared with you the original No Quarter and Whole Lotta Love with a playlist link, when we had our comment chat. But I could not find the entire 1976 original album when we were chatting, but today, I found it. Someone uploaded it to RU-vid on January 13th and I made a playlist of both disc one and disc 2, all 4 sides of the 1976 album. I was surprised your link included Black Dog, since that was not on the original 76 release. Check out this playlist I just made for the 1976 album, including the entire No Quarter Page solo and the Whole Lotta Love funk section. As you know, a fan of the original 76 album, Dazed and Confused runs just under 27 minutes and is not as long as the remaster, which is the downside, but it is the original real deal. Here it is for you to enjoy and if you want to share it with the boys: ru-vid.com/group/PLKu0wKWyfNN458jTXILksJ_1miaeH2GqT&si=DmGNcK3_IivxYmFg
@@finessemuse2123 thank you man I appreciate that. I will definitely check it out. Can’t wait until La and Che get into the mind blowing songs No Quarter, Dazed And Confused, Whole Lotta Love, Stairway To Heaven, Since I’ve Been Loving You,
@@membysteph64 Awesome! I look forward to it too!! Since I've Been Loving You was not released on the original 1976 album, just like Black Dog was not. When you requested the original album release, I thought that is what you meant. But now I am super excited your link will include more songs than the original release, including Since I've Been Loving You. Did you send them the release that has all the missing songs from the film, including Over the Hills and Far Away, Misty Mountain Hop and The Ocean? That would be awesome too! Only knock I have with the remasters is the missing extended Page solo on No Quarter and the funk section in Whole Lotta Love and a small portion of Pages solo missing on Celebration Day. Anyway, enjoy my playlist link for your own listening pleasure! :) And Let's go La and Che spinning the Live Zep tunes! :)
It's near impossible to convey how hard this album - the original studio record, variously 'Led Zeppelin IV', 'Zoso', or the "rune album - hit us when it came out. The lurching, staggering grooves perfectly executed, the sheer abandon of the "jam" vehicles, the impeccable songcraft and musicianship, every element a "state of the art" triumph and lesson. Wow. Just wow. 😮😂 😊🤙🏼🎶❤️✨️🕊
Glad to hear you working your way thru this album. After this one, two other great Zep "live" (non-bootleg) albums are How The West Was Won and BBC sessions, which are both incredible. TY.
Boy oh boy waiting for your dazed and confused reaction . That’s gonna be fun . And so much more afterwards ..Stairway , No Quarter, Whole Lotta Love ..Like I say boy oh boy bring it on gents ..❤❤
Good morning fellows, l'm still here because you're back with my favorite band ( Big Led Head here)🤟🥰🎶 p.s. can't wait until you start watching them live!!
I'm glad your going to react to the entire TSRTS...but 2 suggestions: -When doing "Since I've been loving You", play the audio AND video, Plant is a boss! -Dazed and Confused should have you guys doing the reaction on a Friday night, clear your schedule because it's almost 30 minutes long and is very freaky if you play the video portion too❗️❗️
Yeah, it's weird with that song. The original film version was this shortened version, then I think when "DVD" came out it included the full version of Black Dog, but here with the album we're back to the shorter one. And it may well be there is a re-released/updated album version with the full BD and "Over the hills" and "MM Hop" and so forth. I'm not familiar enough with it to know. In any case, a shame they missed out on full BD here...
When I saw Led Zeppelin it was Immigrant Song, Heartbreaker and Black Dog bang, bang, bang before Plant said hello. Then it was Since I Have Been Loving You for a change of mood.
You're in the wrong "film"; the 3 songs opened the 1972 tour and are on the live album HTWWW. There Immigrant Song has a great guitar solo and lasts around 4', not just over 2'. Why LZ only had this version on the studio album is beyond me; it upset me even as a teenager with little pocket money. Have fun with good music!!!
That little bit they played right before Black Dog was the beginning of Bring It On Home. You had this look like you were hearing something familiar, but couldn't quite place it. 👀🤔🤣
The visual of these songs, especially Celebration day is incredible from this concert! To me, Jimmy really shows you what a rock star looks like and sounds like when he's having a good night. IMHO
If I had to chose I’d say Celebration Song is my favorite Zepp song, has been since early 90s and I’m not afraid to admit it. I listen to the studio version every time I’m working out at the gym.
Another great reaction. That was so fun. The often played a lot of their songs live in a way more ambitious manner than the way they recorded them. They were just so astonishingly good live.
Now that's what you call a 'Big Rock Finish' by the four God's; Thor's Brother pounding the skins at the end there on Black Dog, Hello !!! Love Ir !!! Love your reactions to keep on keeping on my brothers :)
Decent live Zep album, but the live triple album "How the West Was Won" (from the band's 1972 North American tour) is a much better representation of Zeppelin at its live peak. The band is tighter and more dynamic.
They were definitely fantastic in 72. Particularly Robert who still had his full power. But i feel the rest of the band were still improving thru 73. Before the H got to Jimmy. But as a whole i agree with you.
Don’t know if it was intentional or if Jimmy just got lost in his own sauce, but two verses were left out of Black Dog, including another call-and/response between Robert and the crowd. If it was unintentional, MAN Bonzo and JPJ just followed him right along. So tight.
Amazing you are reacting to the live albums, this is where led zep really shines... you need to do the "BBC Sessions" and "How the west was won" albums after this one...
Don't forget song from those NY shows that didn't make the movie or soundtrack. Video of them pkaying Over The Hills, The Ocean, and Misty Mountain Hop
Some of this is not live, I have heard like many "live" albums a fair amount of this was touched up in the studio afterwards. They also had to reshoot several portions of the movie after as well. I heard they built a set that resembled MSG. When JPJ showed up he had gotten a haircut that was quite different that before so he had to wear a wig for some sections, it's pretty obvious in the begging segments of the film haha..XD Still great though, can't wait for NO QUARTER!
@@algoner4421most of it is love but there are some overdubs like in Since I've Been Loving You and a few others But it's still basically a live album
@@algoner4421 Yep, I was reading a thread a while back that said there were actually quite a few overdubs in the studio afterwards. Mostly Page's leads I think. Cleaning them up a little is all. Like Jimmy's solo on Celebration Day. On the record version it is much nicer and cleaner than the Movie version (which got cut) ..but not too bad. Not like KISS Alive (which I love) but I heard was nearly 80% of that is not live. The only thing Eddie Kramer did not touch was Peter's drums believe it or not! But yes, I do love JPJ's wig though in the newer video footage in S-Remains the same!! Haa...thx!
Awesome as always! You should do a review to the entire concert from Madison Square Garden 1973. You will not be disappointed!! Rock on! Peace Love Music 🤘✌❤🎶
This is so awesome guys, I mentioned in a post several months ago that I hoped you would play this album thanks so much ! I love this and presence which are my two favorite Zep albums mostly because how creative they are and that they weren’t repeatedly played on fm stations! These guys are so badass and so are you two 😇
i remember reading in an interview with Eddie Van Halen and he said Jimmy Page was messy. hearing this, i can see what he means, but it doesn’t matter. Page is Page and his style is sick. great writing, multiple parts, versatility, dirty and clean. Also, you got to figure their recordings have so many overlays, which they were the masters of, it would be pretty tough to replicate exactly, but just them jamming is so good.
Eddie was an exceptional guitarist with a one dimensional mind. He could never achieve the multi dimensional, multi layered dark, mysterious energy that was Page.
Great seeing LA and Che(spelling?) grooving to some live Led Zep. Also what i love about these guys is that they recognize JPJ being Led Zeppelin's multi purpose instrumentalist, phenomenal bass player and the member who deserves just as much recognition as Page,Plant and Bonzo! ! Without JPJ they would have not been the same band. If ever there were a band with 4 equal parts where no member had to carry or cover for another member, these guys are it!!! They set the bar 56 years ago and to this day, no one has come close!!! Keith Moon was so wrong about Zeppelin sinking like a lead balloon! 56 years and counting this band is still flying high, selling records as if they're still an intact, performing group!! This is what superb , phenomenal and excellence is all about!
@@gsxrkz holy fuck! You're right.. I was born in 64 and I think subconsciously I wanted to make myself only turning 50 (which is bad enough)this May instead of 60!!! Damn am I old!
@@joescott8877 when I check out for my final day when I know it's all said and done I'm going to take about 20 dilaudid and listen to In the Light off of Physical Grafitti. I wouldn't mind being young again but everything in the past few decades + went to shit including the music! I wouldn't trade anything for growing up in the 70s and seeing bands like Skynyrd , Allmans, Clapton etc. Only saw 3 Zep reunions and Plant and Page solo. Page also with Black Crowes in a small Manhattan ballroom twice! Good lord i was 2 feet away and it was the shit!Them as old men still pissed all over anything else out there! They can keep social media, cellphones and Blink 182 !! I'll take the 70s anytime!
So glad you’re reacting to this album. Can’t wait for you to hear the live versions of No Quarter and Dazed and Confused. My favorite Led Zeppelin covers would be fun for you guys too. Their live videos are really amazing, especially from Madison Square Gardens. Besides being the greatest at all they do, they had to have the best equipment. Them adding extra to their concerts, made it so much more amazing. My favorite live video is Since I’ve Been Loving You Madison Square Gardens (1973). When you think Bonham played like that throughout the 3 to 4 hour concerts, & also does long version of Moby Dick, he’s tireless.
Dazed And Confused. As a teenage addicted drummer, had to memorize this. JPJ just kills it. Following Page. Creative, spontaneous. Sadly, it doesn't exist anymore.
And to think, even though Robert and Jimmy and the band probably lost some edge by '77 except for a few given nights where they were fire 🔥.. Bonzo's drumming actually elevates to another level in '77. The listen to this Eddie Bootleg first song "The song remains the same" is out of this world, power, speed, tone, feel.
Bonzos bass drum? In a marching band pick out the biggest around bass drum, that is how big Bonzos bass drums were. That and the way he tuned them was the key.
@@sicotshit7068 True but not. That is: Very true that YT has scrubbed the individual vid of that song by itself. BUT, you CAN get the whole bloody TSRTS concert on the YT Movies and TV shows channel or whatever it's called. Weird but there it is. Some dude turned me on to that fact a few weeks ago in another comments page.
My original version of the Song Remains the Same did not have Black Dog on it. What gives Laa and Chee? It was on the movie, but not the record. I think it says it’s the soundtrack from the movie, not the official album release.
I wonder now guys as you've heard a lot of other bands from this era, how do you feel Zep compares? Also gents, PLease please listen to - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Y-qFipbA4Cw.html (same concert and off your guys fav album (Or one of your favorites :D ) )
Must have been amazing live, but I much prefer the studio version of Black Dog with Plant hitting the higher notes... Once you've heard that you can't unhear it.
You guys can finally put the Crown on after you see them playing it, but I will still give it to you when your done with this Live Album!! This is the shit, by far! You have No idea what you opened with this album. Please be patient, the songs are long, but Brilliant. When I bought the album it's a double album. Dazed and Confused is a whole side of a record. Same with the double cassettes. Dazed and Confused is one whole side of the cassette.
Shame you’re not reacting to the video. All of this was filmed and all the videos are online. The black dog performance was cut down on the record. There’s a longer 6 minute version online that was released on the 2003 DVD.
@@AirplayBeatsnice. You still got bbc sessions from 1971 when Plant was at his greatest vocal ability. It’s a must listen…along with the royal Albert hall show in 1970. It’s the holy grail of Zep footage
