Robert was all of 20 when he belted out these nasty, nasty blues vocals. Kinda hard to comprehend really. Also, that's John Paul Jones, the bass player, just killin' that organ riff. He is an amazing multi-instrumentalist who brought a whole other level of musicianship to LZ.

Oh, and by the way, to the fella on the right, the song you heard before may not have been this, but a similarly named song by AC/DC called, "You Shook Me All Night Long". It's not blues like this, but much more of a hard rocker song. It's awesome, though.
"You Shook Me" was first recorded by Muddy Waters in 1962. Willie Dixon wrote the lyrics and Earl Hooker the music (to the extent it can be said that anybody wrote the twelve bar blues). Led Zeppelin slowed it down and souped it up with the heavy psychedelic over-driven guitar, the church organ passages, Robert Plant's killer blues harmonica along with his wails. The song segues directly into "Dazed and Confused" on the album, so the final cut comes across as slightly less abrupt when listening to the album straight through.
Yep, Robert Plant is their harmonica player. This album is great and this is one of my favorite tracks on it. Clearly, Zeppelin is in their own league. Thanks for a great reaction. Edit: Was hoping you'd react to studio version of Babe I'm Gonna Leave You so you could hear the differences between it and that early 1969 performance. Maybe another time?
We recorded ‘Babe I’m Gonna Leave You’ the studio version. We will probably drop it in a few days. We wanted to spread out the live version from the studio version a little bit.

I love seeing Black Americans discover the music that their ancestors inspired. Even from across the pond the Blues speaks to everyone. Everything comes full circle.

The early Led Zeppelin from 1969 and 70, was so raw and gritty. They played a lot of Blues on their first two albums. I think it was their best music. Thanks guys I really enjoy your channel.

This is one of my favorite studio songs, it shows a variety of their amazing talents all in one song. The three solos of, keyboard harmonica & guitar, then of course Plant’s amazing vocals & Bonham’s amazing drumming. To think, they were only together about two months, when this album was recorded. From start to finish, recording & Page producing mixing & editing, all in four days & total of 35 hours. They are like four parts of one amazing musician, that’s how in sync they are, & NO others have or will ever come close.
Willie Dixon wrote this tune. Led Zeppelin helped us appreciate the American blues and the talented musicians who first created it. Love your reactions and appreciation of the music.
I love watching young people's reaction to music I grew up listening to. The younger generation's have computer, cell phones, etc. But I had the Rolling Stones, Led Zepp, The Animals, The Troggs, THEM, The Who, CSN&Y, Dave Clark Five, Muddy Waters, Buddy Miles, Nilsson and so many more that made a mark on music history but have been forgotten. If you want to hear an awesome drum solo listen to Jump Into the Fire by Nilsson...your ears will be delighted!
You don't even have to know ANYTHING AT ALL about music to understand that Led Zeppelin is something that stands in their own place.....with nobody else! Words cannot convey how happy I am they left us with their records for all of eternity. The tribute that Heart vocaled at the Kennedy Center was fully justified as it was a spectacle to behold. The look on John, Robert, and Jimi's face during the tribute......... PRICELESS! Thanks for the reaction guys, I get a kick out of your new-found appreciation for LZ.
This is an old blues tune that's been covered lots of times, composed by J.B. Lenoir and well-known blues artist Willie Dixon. As noted by others, John Paul Jones handled bass and organ, lead singer Robert Plant also played harmonica, Jimmy Page on guitars and using a cello bow for those long slides on the verse, and finally, last but far from least, Bonzo on drums and totally killing it as usual.
Like many British bands, Led Zepplin began with blues influence but moved beyond this later into Folk, Psychedelic, and what we know as Rock. Compare this to "Stairway to Heaven." Glad ya'll are at it. Have a safe Thanksgiving.

This song was written by Willie Dixon. He ended up suing Led Zeppelin over this song and won $1,000,000. That is Robert Platt on harmonica. That's John Paul Jones on the keyboards.

I really LOVE the fact that so many of these reaction videos to classic rock tracks are made by black and brown people. It is, in fact, your music more than ours because it's origins are rooted in the Delta Blues of the early 20th century. During the 70s and 80s black people moved more towards classic soul, disco and the birth of Hip Hop but kind of relegated rock music more to white audiences. It makes me happy to see the sort of rediscovery of your musical heritage even though it was filtered and modified to appeal to a white audience. This is every bit your music. From the Rolling Stones and Elvis to George Thorogood and Stevie Ray Vaughn. We were just the lucky beneficiaries of it. That new bluesman, Kingfish, isn't even 30 but he's already making a real name for himself too.

They all do their own little solo even even Bonsall has a little bit of a solo not much but just enough John Paul Jones plays everything man no in acoustic base keyboards when he plays keyboards he plays the baseline with his feet on the base pedals

Lol… hang on … it gets deeper… Also Plant and Page do a lot of “ call and response” .. you’ll hear this in much of their catalog …. Notice the differences in the first three songs so far….. Diverse ….
I never saw this band intact. I saw Robert Plant solo in the mid 80s. After Zeppelin disbanded. Immigrant Song, Stairway to Heaven and Houses of the Holy. My favorites.
its an adaption of a Muddy Waters song - lz were very influenced by Delta blues / chicago blues. There is a good live version from 1969 filmed for Beat Club. its very clearly shows the duet that you mentioned. it is a recurring feature between Page and Plant, Page also makes his guitar talk! Try watching I can't quit you babe live at Royal Albert Hall for another good example. regarding recording techniques i would watch a documentary called "it might get loud" which is about guitarists and features Jimmy Page along with the edge from U2 and Jack White from the white stripes. each one tells their back story then they get together and talk and jam. Jimmy page explains everything you want to know about double neck guitars , using a theramin , song writing , playing guitar with violin a bow and recording drums in the stairwell of Hedley Grange which he visits so you can see where it happened- i think you may spontaneously combust when you hear when the Levee Breaks!!! this documentary is broken down into clips for youtube so you can see it as a whole or piecemeal. my favourite bit is Page citing Link Wray : the Rumble, as an early influence and playing the record - the joy he still has in the music is inspirational. I promise you will love this interview.

They only band musicians that can rival each other in the mastery of their craft in my opinion are Zeppellin and Rush, way up there in their level. simply phenomenal. John Paul Jones plays like 100 instruments masterfully and writes music, so did Bonham and played the drums top notch, Robert and his harmonica and lead voice and Jimmy and his Guitar, same for Rush, all fantastic musicians and one that is multifaceted and good at every thing. In the session when Robert sings "You know you shook me all night long" immediately following is John Paul on base. Then Jimmy layers it with the higher pitched guitar.
You have no idea, during this the bass player played the organ,Page picked up bass, John Bonham drives the band, he hooks into the lead guitar rather than the bass. John Bonham’s talent was incredible. His death is the reason why Robert Plant refused Led Zeppelin to continue. Plants voice was incredible. “You shook me” is definitely my favorite.
