I was 14. Bought the album at “Lorraine’s Records”. Went into our basement and sat around a record player (!) with 5-6 friends. Put the needle on the vinyl. Our lives changed. For real.

It is sometimes said … Led Zeppelin has arguably the best rock lead vocalist OF ALL TIME … Arguably the best rock guitar player OF ALL TIME … Arguably the best drummer ever PERIOD … and finally , arguably the best rock bassist, yes … OF ALL TIME

I was 10 in 1969 (and in love with David Cassidy of the Partridge Family) but when I was 14 we moved to a new neighborhood and all the teenage guys were into Zeppelin. It was too heavy and aggressive for this teenage girl as I was listening to top 40. During this covid pandemic as I got into youtube (so much more time on my hands) I have come to love Led Zeppelin and fully appreciate their talent. Of course, I am a more "aggressive" person in my early 60's than I was as a teen. This old lady is wearing Zeppelin shirts around the house and playing their music and reading books about them. Wow-who knew? Between Zep and Queen I am a happy music listener.

Saw them the first time in 71. I was 9 at the time. My babysitter took me to the concert with her boyfriend. I didn't know what rock and roll was and had no idea who they were. I was listening to Bobby Sherman and The Captain and Tennille at the time. I think tickets were around $6.00 or $7.00. To say I was blown away is an understatement. Could not take my eyes of Page playing the guitar. His hands were like magic.

1969 , age 18, and a gang of us were round Jim's house. He had just gone and bought Led Zeppelins first album, vinyl of course, and he put the record on the deck and started it spinning and lowered the stylus. Wow!! Good Times Bad Times came on, and we were all blown away. The rest is history.

I am not sure when I first heard Led Zeppelin but it must have been shortly after the album was released in Jan 1969. I was in college. Our band learned a lot of these songs. I was the lead singer of the band. I am 33 days older than Robert Plant. 🙂. Anyway I saw Led Zeppelin the first time in Nov 1969. This song was the first one of that performance. The song that was really electrifying in person was "Dazed and Confused"

Led Zeppelin's early music catalogue was their best in my opinion. It was raw and gritty, !969 to about 1972 was just pure gold. Most everything they did was very good, but I'm partial to that early Bluesy, Hard Rock in the early days when they were still in their early 20s. Thanks guys

You should know that "Whole lotta Love" was the introduction song of Led Zeppelin for MOST of the Kids back in the day. Primarily because it was a crossover song. That is it crossovered from FM to the more popular AM Radio in the time period.

So, it was a chilly evening in Virginia in early 1969. I was a young lad, 18 years of age, about to turn 19 in April. The art teacher at a particular 'girls college' invited our quintet (3 guys, 2 girls) of friends over to drink wine, etc., etc. Mr. Instructor said 'I have a song that I'd like you guys to hear, and then let me know what y'all think.' It was "Good Times, Bad Times" cranked up to 11. We were all blown away because it was like nothing we had ever heard. We found out later that month that it was LZ. One of the greatest times of my stupid life...

So many shows and in commercials. Drums are so good!!! May not be the smoothest song, but they just have a certain something. You can't not love them. Very short song! To answer your question, when did I first hear Led Zeppelin. It was 10 years old (1970) and one of my older brothers (9 years older) had a couple of their albums and played them a lot. I loved them even at that early age. I was so excited when I saw them live at age 16. I saw them April 13, 1977 in St. Paul, MN. I still have my entire ticket. I talked the ticket taker to give it to me, although he ripped it in half. They sold out 2 concerts, in one day 100 thousand tickets. One was in Minneapolis, I was at the St. Paul Civic Center concert.

My brother and I always listened to rock and the radio. I was in 6th grade and Immigrant song and whole lotta love were played on top 40 where we lived. I liked their songs though I had no clue what they meant. It was some years later in the mid 70s when I was in high school and all you heard everywhere was Stairway to Heaven. By that time I was a Zep Head. Bought all their albums and listened to them constantly even though I had a bunch of albums. Nothing soothed the savage beast like Zeppelin. Nothing compared to them. And I think my early love of the band led to my being a blues fan in my adulthood as their influence on my taste remained. nothing, absolutely nothing compared to Zeppelin.

I have to add that in the early to mid 70s there was amazing rock out there. Then in 76 t, o 79 you got alot of crap. Garbage like Captain and Tinelle and disco. It was to the point I stopped listening to the radio for the fist time since I was like 6. I could not stomach it. Then something wonderful happened. In Chicago the White Sox played the Tigers and during the 7th inning Stretch an FM dj, who promoted 'Blow Up Disco' night did the blowing up. Fans streamed onto the field and mayhem broke loose with the sheer thrill of blowing up disco. Shortly after that I heard a song called My Sharona. It was the first punk song I heard and I was in love. Within a year there was Blondie, the Clash, of course Sex Pistols, Ramones on the airwaves and I was wallowing in it.

"You Shook Me" would have been a better representation of how this band rocked the shite with their first album. The first time I heard Led Zeppelin I was at the house of a friend who was teaching me acoustic guitar. I was 17-years-old. This band had a different sound from the other great bands of the time. You should have heard this with a really good stereo set and good speakers. You kids today have no idea how a set of good speakers could elevate a song. The separation, the crisp sound of each instrument. You just don't get that today.

I was in 8th grade , 1st day of school 1969. I walked into my civics class, and the teacher sat me in the back next to this punky kid with a beatle haircut. He was drumming on his desk, and i was taking drum lessons, so we hit it off, and i joined in. The teacher said can the two drummers in the back knock it off. He said he was in a band, i said wow, thats cool whats your name, he said Led Zeppelin, he said yeah, we got our first song on the radio, check it out when you go home, they just started playing it alot, youll probably hear it , its called "Whole Lotta Love" i had never heard of them, and being 13, no clue how the whole music and radio thing worked. He said his mom took him to band practice couple times a week. I went home and turned the radio on and sure enough it came on. I wasnt sure i like it too much cause it sounded so raw and hard, but was convinced this kid was really cool. Next day in class, i said wow, i heard your song , you guys are really good, and asked if i could come to their band practice. He started cracking up, and couldnt believe i went for it. We started laughing so hard, and after that became best friends. Within a week i was hooked on Led Zep, and bought the first two albums. A year later they came to Salt Lake City, we went and it was one of the best nights of my life.

You are so right about not being able to accurately assess what it sounded like back when this was first released. I was a teenager at the time and nobody had heard anything like this. Jimmy Page was such a great producer as well as a terrific guitarist and songwriter.

I was 19 or 20, in my sophomore year of college (1969-1970). I went to a friend's dorm room to smoke some weed, and he said that he'd gotten this killer new album that was going to blow my mind. After a few minutes prep time, during which we shared a nice doobie, he put on the first LZ album I'd ever heard. Mind you, I was used to Hendrix, the Stones (my favorite Stones song is "Honky Tonk Women", which also has a fair share of cow-bell in it), Deep Purple, the in-your face brass of much Soul music, and a lot of other groups whose sound at times could be, shall we say, "aggressive". But nothing prepared me not just for the sound of LZ, but the lyrics - and most of all the quality of Robert Plant's singing. So, there I was on a beautiful day, sun streaming in the windows through a light haze of marijuana smoke, and "Good Times, Bad Times" began. Astonishing guitar, unbelievable never-hear-before drumming, and the anguish and danger and threat embodied in Robert Plant's wailing, all exploding in my mostly innocent mind. I was literally stunned. When side A was over, my friend flipped the LP over and played the rest. When I left his room a few hours later, I was a changed person. PS LZ is it's own genre. It has roots and influences, but it's not a Rock band, it's not a Metal band, it's not a Blues band - it's Led Zeppelin. Right from the very get-go, track one, album one, without let-up, without easing up at all, until the day John Bonham died. LZ set a standard nobody else can ever hope to come close to. But since the band's music is in its own category for all eternity, other groups can hope to reach equal heights, just on their own terms. In part, that's why I don't much care for Metal. They all sound like poor examples of wannabe LZ, and that's just not possible.

I first really heard LZ was back around 1980. I’ve heard them before but really didn’t pay attention to them but I was familiar with their music just no deep dive. I mean, I was born in 70 and my parents had great taste in music and my uncles had excellent taste in music, one was a serious audiophile and got me into it as well.

I was in a diner near Syracuse University in 1969 when someone put Whole Lotta Love on the jukebox. The diner was never the same (me too). The next summer I saw them in Oakland, California. I was a lucky boy.

You need more Led Zeppelin! Eventually, you have to do my favorite version of "Kashmir" from the 2007 Celebration Day concert at London's O2 Arena. GOAT rock song by the GOAT rock band. Then you will eventually get to the cover song of "Stairway to Heaven" by Heart at the Kennedy Center Honors: Led Zeppelin. As a special treat to Ryan, I think he will love the studio version of "Since I've Been Loving You" off the Led Zeppelin III album. Please more LZ!!! I'll be waiting and watching...

Speaking of Led Zeppelin, I really, really hope you guys decide to feature "Achilles Last Stand", the lead-off track from their Presence album, all glorious 10:31 minutes of it. Jimmy Page orchestrates at least 6 different guitar tracks on this epic, hard rock masterpiece. John Paul Jones pretty much invents the galloping bass line heard here that Iron Maiden practically built an entire career on, and John Bonham's explosive drumming needs to heard to be believed. It's been said that singer Robert Plant re-injured his broken ankle when he leapt from his wheelchair with excitement at the possibilities envisioned while recording this track. This is possibly my favorite song of all-time.

I suspect most nonmusicians will mostly be paying attention to Page and Plant but the interplay between bass and drums is well worth some concentrated listening. This first song on the first album is an absolute masterpiece.

Nobody knew "A Tale of Two Cities"? Heh, I guess they don't make you read that in school anymore...The absolute first time I remember hearing them would have been around 1970 when I was around 8. I heard "Immigrant Song" on the radio late at night. I was by myself, up past my bedtime. It was kinda scary, but I was mesmerized...I had older brothers, so their music was always around, but I didn't really start getting into them until "Physical Graffiti", then I did a deep dive into the older albums in my early 20's, just about the time they broke up...

I was 17 in ‘69. Two albums changed my entire musical outlook. Jimi Hendrix “Are You Experienced” (I heard it first in ‘68) and this one which I’d argue has stood the test of time far better. It still gets played on the regular. Nice reaction!

at that time the record companies and literally the entire music industry hated LZ with a passion. Why you ask? 'cause they did everything their way and refused to give an inch. the Beatles were the #1 band at the time and everybody in the industry wanted 2 - 3 minute radio friendly feel good songs and zep said F You, we don't do that. you should read some of the early reviews from rags like The Rolling Stone Magazine etc... brutal! The fans fell hard and just after their second album was released in '69 zeppelin dethroned the beatles as the #1 band in the world and held that title all throughout the 70's until bonham died and they disbanded. if you really want to see early zep they did a live on air mini concert for a danish tv station to promote their first album and introduce the band to the public. they performed on a tiny stage in front of a small studio audience of youngsters who sat on the floor right next to the stage. Plant (singer) and Bonham (drummer) were like 19 years old and Page (guitarist) and Jones (bass) were like 23 or 24. they played four songs "Communication Breakdown:, "Dazed and Confused", "Babe I'm gonna Leave You" and "How Many More Times" the "mini" concert went down in history as a pivotal moment in rock and roll

John Bonham came from jazz and introduced riff based drumming to pop/blues/ rock and changed how people viewed drumming(Much like Jimi Hendrix did). Drumming, up until then (in main stream music ), was a backing instrument and he brought it to the front. As I understand it.

I was in junior high school and in 9th grade when this came out. The reason those songs were kept short was because if they wanted any airplay, they had to keep them around 3 minutes. At the time, it was all on AM radio. And you'd have country stations and rock stations, but on the rock stations you'd also have soul, Motown, etc. A few years later they all started moving to FM. Before that, all you'd hear on FM was Classical or Muzak.
