I thought there was some kind of law or something about not playing Heartbreaker without going straight into Livin' Lovin' Maid.

Jimmy's fingerpicking style in the solo directly inspired Eddie Van Halen's signature style.

I saw LZ 4 times in the early 70's. Page's improv live were outrageous. These guys were pure gold on stage.

On the album, the song that comes after Heartbreaker is Livin' Loving Maid....for Heartbreaker to feel complete, both must be played. They are symbiotic.

Ok, nobody told you this. It is Mandatory, this ALWAYS must happen. NEVER EVER listen to Heartbreaker all by itself. It must always be IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED WITHOUT PAUSE by Living loving Maid. On the Led Zeppelin II album this is how the 2 tracks are recorded. The radio stations we all heard these 2 songs on back in the ‘70’s ALWAYS played these 2 songs back to back. Find a video that has both these songs back to back without pause and do this reaction again. That sudden ending of silence to Heartbreaker you just experienced is filled with the strong intro to Living Loving Maid. They’re married together forever. Bass is pronounced Base, not Bass like the fish.

Great song, the live version from How The West Was Won is absolutely impeccable.

You need to let the song flow into the next song, "Living Loving Maid". They go together like bread & butter!

Songs like this blew people away in part because the notion of a repeating guitar riff was pretty new when Zeppelin came out. Now there are thousands of examples of a simple riff driving a song, but it was less common then. Some guitarists complain that there are no good riffs left to create because Page already wrote them all!

Yep, it ends that way, but "Living Loving Maid" is almost without fail played after "Heartbreaker" on the radio because on vinyl the gap between the two songs is extremely short.
